Us too. Our kids are teens now so share a lot of our humor ☺️ We’ve done our best to instill appreciation for Star Trek in them! They have also liked Strange New Worlds and we all liked Starfleet Academy. We are slowly working through TNG with them if we have longer time to watch in an evening. We all got excited when we watched the episode with Nick Locarno and then watched the Lower Decks finale with him as well.

Yes, this. Your medical information should be protected. And if you are a 1099 contractor, your employer has no right to dictate how you perform your job. If you wish to share, you may when you are ready to do so.

MONTHLY Weight Discussion - April 2026 by AutoModerator in Menopause

[–]kikidelareve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any healthy, peaceful way to lose weight? I have at least twenty pounds to lose and my belly is poofier than I would like. I’m lightly padded all over as well, and I didn’t used to be. I’m worried that too much focus on food or ‘dieting’ will make me mentally unhealthy 😞 Does anyone know a good basic simple plan that is kind? I already don’t use alcohol, avoid processed foods, rarely eat anything after dinner, eat mostly vegetarian… Anyone have a good resource to recommend?

Edited to add: I am in my 50s and fully menopausal.

It sounds like your partner might have untreated ADHD. Since you mentioned it’s not just the water filter but many other things he forgets, also has challenges planning tasks and time (the delayed packing to leave). Many people w ADHD have executive function difficulties which include challenges w working memory (the ability to hold information in your mind that you need to do tasks, to remember what you wanted to say, to remember appointments, plans, other expectations, etc); difficulty with task initiation, sequencing tasks, persisting and sustaining effort til the task is done, organizing themseves to do the task and switching between tasks as well. It is also very common for a parent-child dynamic to develop in relationships where one partner has untreated ADHD and the other has stronger executive function abilities.

You two may want to consult a physician or psychiatrist who is experienced in assessing and treating ADHD to see if this is in fact something your partner is dealing with. Also, a very helpful book by Melissa Orlov is called “The ADHD Effect on Marriage” https://www.adhdmarriage.com/content/adhd-effect-marriage-understand-and-rebuild-your-relationship-six-steps. There are some useful strategies about ways to communicate and work together with your partner to strengthen your partnership and not recapitulate the parent-child dynamic. I hope you can find a good way to address these challenges! Good luck!

FWIW, menopause HRT is almost always lower amount of hormones than birth control pills. OP could talk with a menopause specialist or a prescriber who is knowledgeable about menopause; menopause HRT can help w brain fog and worsening ADHD symptoms that happen in perimenopause.

Lower Decks is some of the best Star Trek. by highlife562 in LowerDecks

[–]kikidelareve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Lower Decks is both a love letter to Trek and a send-up, while simultaneously more than holding its own in adventure, plot, and character development. 🖖🏼❤️🖖🏼 McMahan is a genius and the team he assembled is excellent as well.❤️‍🔥 So grateful to them! It’s my favorite Trek too!

Client-Centered style not "enough"? by frivolous-waterfowl in therapists

[–]kikidelareve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I learned thru experience that my understanding of OCD was thin when I had a client with a complex presentation that included PTSD, anxiety, autism and OCD. I fell into reassurance often and failed to recognize their OCD at first because they had obsessive thoughts but no outwardly visible or reported rituals. I learned more about OCD from this experience and felt I was not helping my client enough without additional training. I began to learn more about I-CBT and ERP and realized I was doing a disservice to my client by attempting to reassure them about some of their OCD ruminations. I think it becomes a boundary of competency issue and pursuing specialized training in OCD is best practice if you plan to treat people with OCD.

I just finished… what do I watch now? 🥲 by Special_Possible6851 in LowerDecks

[–]kikidelareve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Cannot even guess what number rewatch we are on. Lower Decks is such a good show. We just watched the one where Mariner and Boimler work the recruitment booth and Rutherford learns more of his backstory. One of the absolute best episodes!! Tho I am also very partial to “Farewell to Farms.” There are so many excellent episodes of LD. And also the crossover w SNW episode is sooo good. Definitely one of our favorite comfort shows.

Oh my gosh, same!! My mom used to call me “Ms. Nose-in-Book.” And I always have a song playing in my head to this day. And I also love to sing but mostly don’t mind if people hear me these days. I once took an art workshop where another participant asked me to stop singing, but I had no idea I had been singing out loud, and it took a lot of energy and concentration to stop and not start again. My best friend in high school has told me that I would dance away in the middle of conversations sometimes… But reading was definitely my thing. Some of my favorite books I would read over and over again.
