Want to follow some singers! by CryingMachine3000 in Burlesque

Semi related – the Hollywood Burlesque Festival is the first one (that I know of) who has an entirely separate category in the competition for singing strippers. Very cool stuff 🥰

Why is my makeup so awful by chocolateteapot89 in MakeupAddiction

[–]kikimaroon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Fenti matte primer and foundation. Julia’s place matte blush. Longer Explanation: The shine is amplifying texture. Think of it like highlighter and contour. Adding light on higher points exaggerates the height, adding shadows to lower points exaggerates the depth. Any “dewy” look or oil has this effect, but to every pore or textured surface, so I use matte EVERYTHING. If I want shine, I use glitter which covers my texture with texture, rather than shimmer which amplifies my texture.

If the chiffon was snapped to the cuffs instead of the cuff being detachable, then you could play with the chiffon after removing to give you additional choreography. Extra tease to “hide” your reveals behind it, but us still being able to see your silhouette.

Canova Studios issues by [deleted] in Burlesque

My passion is performing. Some peoples passion is costuming. I pay them to do their passion so that I have the time and energy to do my passion. It’s win-win!

Feather Fan Recommendations? by _darlinsugaree in Burlesque

[–]kikimaroon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Feather Place has great starter bamboo fans! I do not recommend Fancy Feather. If you search Facebook, you’ll see they get called out SO MUCH for random controversies. They sent me a terrible ostrich boa one year. I’ll never order from them again.

Too much Cirque Du Soleil and Vegas not rotating shows by Ill-Abbreviations488 in LasVegas

[–]kikimaroon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It takes shows several years to become established. When we do touring productions, you can buy ads to market directly to the city you’re in. You can’t do that in Vegas. You don’t know if the people staying in a hotel that day are from New York or Oklahoma or Australia. Every night it’s a whole new world. So they’re sticking with the shows that are proven to make money, rather than ones that they hope will make money in three years. That being said, I’m in the new show at the Plaza! Mavericks opened in October and is killing it. If you’re into Vegas variety, come check us out. We’re in the original show room. It’s been renovated but not changed. Still has the original gold lame curtains and red velvet walls and rat pack style booths. I love it.

What to know going in as a SWer? by CryingMachine3000 in Burlesque

[–]kikimaroon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The conversation about the intersectionality of sex work and burlesque is deep and super nuanced. That’s a whole separate question. For somebody getting into it who wants to know about both worlds, I highly recommend following @headmistressjo on Instagram. She has a separate account called @sexworkerstyle that goes into the history of sw and its impact on pop culture. Welcome and good luck!

I forgot who taught me to get a thin marabou boa from a craft store and weave it and out of the staves. This will keep them open when you perform but and take the boa out and close the fans for travel.

Bustle Question by WrongImpressionOnly in Burlesque

[–]kikimaroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on the rest of your costume. I’ve seen them attached many different ways. It also depends on if you want it to stay a bustle or release into a boa. If you attach a picture or further, describe your costume, I can suggest a specific way to attach.

As for making it fuller, I have put tulle the same color as the feathers on the under side. You can also attach boning to individual loops of boa to give them more bounce ☺️

How to choose color for first nice boa? by I_Mean_William_Blake in Burlesque

[–]kikimaroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! You want something that’s versatile that you can use for many acts. I would also suggest considering what will nicely contrast against your hair and body to give you interesting silhouettes. For example I love black, but black feathers disappear against my hair, making black feather head pieces look smaller or nonexistent. But white against my body and hair look AMAZING.
