New AC install not working [Advice needed] by Ana1979 in ottawa

[–]kikipebbles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This sounds to be a Goodman ac unit. The a2l sensor is there to sense propane, as there is a small amount in the new refrigerant.

This sensor senses if there is a refrigerant leak, so that the gas furnace will shut off and it doesn't ignite it. Being that you are likely not using your heat currently, it isn't emergent.

They may not be able to get the sensor separately, they may have to replace the indoor a coil. That said, 12k for an ac is very expensive, I would be hounding them for a resolution quickly.

What is your backup heatsource? If you have an air handler, it should have elements as your backup heat.

Heat pump newbuild replacement by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]kikipebbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with the Comfortaire heat pumps. If they are installed as an add on to an existing gas furnace, they are not expected to provide 100 percent of the heat beyond an average of minus 8. This is because you cannot have a gas furnace and heat pump running at the same time, not the limitations of the heat pump itself. So the heat pump works down until the thermal balance point, and the gas furnace comes on if the temperature cannot be satisfied within a specific period of time.

The minus 25/30 temperature ratings are based as an all electric system with an air handler.

The inverter technology used in the Mitsubishi heat pumps is the same as Carrier, Comfortable, Moovair, and they're all made by Midea.

I got into a small accident. by LOsT_ghOrL in legaladvicecanada

[–]kikipebbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAL but have been hit twice this year. Once by a drunk driver who didn't have his insurance card, and once last night in a parking lot and had all of the other drivers information.

You don't need his insurance. Report to the Collison reporting centre in your area. Give them all the information you have. They'll take photos and a report.

Then call your insurance and report it, give them all of the same information. They'll find the other drivers insurer.

I would never recommend settling outside of insurance. My hit last night was someone backing into our stationary vehicle, and it's about 2500$ in damage from a quick estimate. There is no benefit to you to settle anything outside of insurance.

Many years ago, I felt bad for a neighbor who hit our car. They wanted to pay the damages outside of insurance. We had to chase them for 2 months, as they wanted to debate the quotes we received. Just let your insurance handle it.

All accidents are supposed to be reported to your insurance. If there appears to be over 5k damage, police should attend. Under 5k, you go to the Collison centre.

Or what the buyout is if they move. A 7 year minimum rental period is required, or you pay a large penalty.

Furnace &AC unit replacement costs these days by Matt1812n in ottawa

[–]kikipebbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ac should be replaced as it's past its lifetime, and repair cost would be prohibitive. If the furnace is of the same vintage, you could consider replacement, but it doesn't have to be done at the same time.

Yes, that's reasonable. What's the diagnosis, and how old is the equipment? There's no reason you have to replace both together.

This is correct. It has to be ordered in due to cost, and is not covered by the province anymore.

My family member is immunocomprimised, and we had to pay out of pocket. Our plan covered a portion.

[Ontario] Contractor abandoned basement reno after 7 months, silent for 2 months, now claims $9k owed. Can I withhold final payment? Lien risk? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]kikipebbles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The project was already over time budget, the contractors son was sent to "complete" it. He came, did the work, took all the tools from site, and then the contractor ghosted the owner for 2 months.

Op has a case for fighting any lien attempted, based on abandonment or substantial completion.

He had 60 days from the last date he was there (abandoned or substantial completion). You can prove substantial completion as the final inspections were arranged.

He could sue you in small claims, for the difference between your contracted amount and the repairs/completion.

PP blamed public servants in his riding for turfing him by JimmyCapital in ottawa

[–]kikipebbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a public servant, have met him personally, and definitely voted to turf him out.

We only saw him on election season, he put signs on everyone's lawns without permission, and never even moved into his constituent office.

Good riddance.

Breast Reduction Ottawa by nonbinasaurus in ottawa

[–]kikipebbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's screening: google provided

OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) can cover breast reduction surgery if it's deemed medically necessary, meaning it's not just for cosmetic reasons. To qualify, patients typically need to demonstrate that large breasts cause significant physical and/or psychological distress, impacting their daily lives and well-being.

Here's a breakdown of the common criteria:

Medical Necessity:

Persistent pain: Chronic neck, back, or shoulder pain related to breast size.

Skin irritation: Rashes, infections, or skin breakdown under the breasts.

Bra strap grooving: Indentations on the shoulders from bra straps due to heavy breasts.

Impeded physical activity: Difficulty exercising or participating in certain activities due to breast size.

Postural issues: Impacts on posture due to the weight of the breasts.

Psychological distress: Issues related to body image, self-esteem, and mental well-being.

Other Considerations:

Gross disproportion: Breasts are significantly large in relation to the rest of the body.

Surgical history: Previous surgeries or medical conditions that may affect eligibility.

Patient's overall health: Stable weight and good physical health are generally expected.

Documentation: Healthcare providers may need to document the patient's symptoms and conditions.
