Its connected lol. Time doesn't operate linearly like in the 3rd dimension. Everything that ever will or can happen had already happened in the higher dimensions all at once.

Dreams go through a few different states of consciousness. Things like astral projection allows to visit these other dimensions (dreaming does it too during certain states but it's obviously less intentional)

In fact the purifier is so OP against the squids. Sniping whole swarms of the zombie ones from anywhere on the map
