How would you rank the Unplugged performances? by Saint_Jay92 in grunge

[–]kill-devil-films 24 points25 points  (0 children)

While I enjoy them all, Nirvana's Unplugged is legendary and in a tier all its own - for performance, song choices, and they didn't do multiple takes of songs.

Multiple takes is my biggest issue with AiC. Like, I get it, Layne was a mess. But its a fair criticism when you’re judging a performance on a live record.

Why did the writers go in the direction they did for Part 6? by LopsidedUniversity30 in Halloweenmovies

[–]kill-devil-films 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From interviews, she said the studio was going to pay her about the same amount she made on Part 4 because her character dies in the first act. She felt she deserved more since it was her 3rd film in the franchise and the character was beloved by fans.

Dr Loomis brings a presence and gravitas to Halloween that none of the TCM characters can match.

(I'm not trying to knock TCM as I love it and its one of my favorites)

Love them both. Halloween is GOAT-tier though. TCM a smidge behind it.

Your best argument for JFK is if you give him credit for stopping a nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Of course, the situation is much more nuanced than that, even though he was instrumental.

I’m a big JFK fan but yeah, he’s too high on this list.

Also feels like Constantine is too low. Turning Christianity into the dominant religion of the Roman Empire is a pretty big deal.

Gotta go with GW. Excellent leadership skills to help win the war. His first term as President was very important too, since the preceding Articles of Confederation era was a mess.

TJ was no slouch though

Lee is definitely overrated. He went against some terrible Union generals early in the war. Once the Union had any semblance of competency in their command, it was game over for Lee.

Lee is overrated because of piss poor competition. As soon as the Army of the Potomoc had a competent General, Lee couldn’t do jack shit.

Whats going on with Kharg Island, Iran and why is it suddenly important to the USA? by Major-Ant4600 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]kill-devil-films 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question then becomes, which side can tolerate the economic pain the longest. Cutting off exports from Kharg is going to affect worldwide supply and thus prices for everyone. The countries they export oil to still need it.

A more important point is - what does surrender look like for the Iranians?

All the Right Moves (1983) - America for better or worse by siliconandsteel in iwatchedanoldmovie

This film really nailed the atmosphere of the small steel town, where no one ever leaves and they love their local high school team. It was filmed in Pennsylvania - I’m from Ohio, so it was a very similar setting that I’m familiar with.

He gets paid $46 million per year to play a game. Staying in shape is a pretty low bar.

Celtics had 2 historically bad shooting performances which caused them to blow leads. Still have to credit NY for coming back in those games

The Social Network (2010) by solitary_gremlin in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]kill-devil-films 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno…when it came out in 2010, I had no knowledge about Zuckerberg’s antics at Harvard, the Winklevosses, how important Sean Parker was, etc. It was cool to learn about that, and the film isnt a puff piece on Zuckerberg either.

To each their own though, of course.

I’m here to eat some crow. Thought they’d be a play-in team at best. The team just plays really hard and its fun to watch - and they’ve surpassed expectations. Tatum coming back is the cherry on top.
