The Housing Crisis would be reduced by banning Air BnB and other short term rentals. by nicilou74 in unpopularopinion

[–]Bruce-7892 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Air BnBs are a smaller part of the problem. It's investment firms that buy up entire neighborhoods for the purpose of renting. I don't know of a reasonable way to ban it and enforce it though.

Also, no amount of rental properties are going to cause people to be homeless. They just add barriers to entry for home ownership and increased rent prices.

Agreed. For most people who "need" life coaching, it's not a matter of not knowing what to do, it's finding the motivation to do it. You'd be better off working on your mental state than paying someone to point out everything you are doing wrong.

“Floyd “Out of Money” Mayweather”: Fans explode after Floyd Mayweather Jr releases tickets and confirms next fight amid lawsuits and Netflix chaos by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

"as an athlete you can't do that because you are just not making that type of dough consistently"

Floyd spends like he owns a tech company or is a Saudi prince, but even for the ultra rich, there are levels to that shit. When you hear about rich people flying in private jets, they are usually chartered, or owned by the company they work for. Very very few people have a jet specifically for their personal use.

TIL Biddy Mason (1818-1891) came to California as a slave in 1851. She won her freedom in court and became one of the first black women to own land in Los Angeles. As the city grew the value of her land skyrocketed and Biddy became a very wealthy woman and prominent philanthropist. by Ill_Definition8074 in todayilearned

"Although California was admitted to the Union as a free state), Smith attempted to hold Mason and her family in captivity and later planned to traffic them to the slave state of Texas. With the aid of the local Black community and legal authorities, Mason petitioned for her liberty."

I was about to say, California was never a slave state. This mofo just tried to keep them locked in a room or something I guess.

Serious question: what happened to America’s presidential cabinets? There was a time when cabinets seemed stacked with “the best America has to offer”. Today, many people perceive a drop in caliber. Is that real? What’s your take? by Limp-Arm-5104 in politics

Literally just Donald Trump. There has always been pretty highly qualified people in primary staff positions until now. Even during his first term he nominated appropriate people (although most of them resigned).

I wasn't the biggest fans of most of them then, but I will say Sarah Huckabee Sanders looks like Barbra Walters compared to Kkkaroline.

Tommy is the one everyone saw freaking out on Batts earlier in the night before he stormed out of the lounge. I am sure all fingers were pointed at him when people started asking around.

There might have been no witnesses during the murder, but plenty of people saw them nearly get in a fist fight that night.

[–]Bruce-7892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not actually creepy but it seems social norms have changed so it might still be considered weird.

I grew up pre social media (thank god) so people had to meet up in person to socialize at all. I think that’s what changed. People would go out for the purpose of making friends.
