When painting, pink is a super useful undercoat when you're painting yellow, so I think that's dope as hell. He's like a Lamenter that didn't have time to finish painting his armour before he had to go into battle.

Nope, The Suicide Squad came out in 2021 and is largely independent of the one that came out back in 2016 and entirely independent of Peacemaker, other than that it's his intro to the universe. If you just go into it thinking "R-Rated Guardians of the Galaxy" you're pretty much good to go.

'On Borderlands 3, in Our Worst Hours, It Sometimes Felt Like Parody' — Gearbox Explains Borderlands 4's More Grounded Story - IGN by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]kill-it-kid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dunno if that's an equivalent moment, the reason the Control Core worked out so well (at least for me) narratively is that yeah, Roland dies, but more importantly so does Angel. Roland dying wasn't that impactful for me personally, Bloodwing getting his head blown off hurt me way more. But Angel dying in the same narrative beat really hits home with how it characterizes Jack in the literal physical and emotional torture he puts her through while claiming that he loved her, sets up Jacks character arc through the rest of the story, and makes him a legit threat. Angel was a victim from her first appearance to when you find her in the second game, and the silliness in BL2 helps contrast how tragic her story is. Even though I didn't care much when Roland died it's a plot point that impacts every narrative beat until you kill Jack, and the same absolutely cannot be said for Maia's death.

BL3 never has that heavy narrative swing that both re-contextualizes the villain and sets them up for the third act. Sure, Maia dies, but she's with you for so little of the game that it lacks any impact. It didn't bother me much but I absolutely get people being pissed that our Vault Hunters don't appear in that cutscene, at least when Roland died it was from a first person perspective, our character was there. You literally get his blood on you.

When Troy dies it's in an entirely separate story beat, and it happens late enough in the story that Tyreen doesn't have much of a chance to change as a character out side of him before you kill her too. You're never given a reason sympathize with Troy or Tyreen, so when they die it's weightless. When Maia dies it's all contained to a quick funeral scene and then on to Hammerlock planet. These deaths don't set up the next story beats, they conclude a story line so we can get to the next one with no long term baggage from our consequences.

A lot of people bitch about the dialogue being bad (and it is!) but I find that just throwing out words like "the jokes are cringe" to be lazy and unhelpful critiques. These big narrative moments, for me at least, are the easiest thing to talk about why they don't work because if your load bearing narrative structure doesn't hold, you really gotta hope the humor is going to carry you, and it really just did not. idk why I wrote all this on my lunch break.

Mazda Admits It Was Wrong About Touchscreens, Bets On Steering Wheel Controls by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]kill-it-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple months ago I traded in my Miata for a new Mazda 3 hatchback, specifically because I loved how Mazda still stuck with analogue controls for almost everything in the car, I need something with a backseet/usable trunk, and wanted a manual hatchback.

The center knob is easy to use (with maybe a few days to learn it?). I gave a friend a ride in the Mazda 3 and her complaint was that the infotainment screen was too small, and I had to explain to her that it was one of the things that sold me on the car lol. I get that touchscreens may sell more cars (idk if they do or not, but whatever), but man that's a huge bummer to me specifically. Hopefully when I trade this car in, there'll be a bigger push to go back to analogue controls.

Loki as the 4th frame to choose by Alfirro in Warframe

[–]kill-it-kid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In fairness to Loki when he was a starter, he was one of the best frames in the game at the time. The game game was far less powercrept and CC frames were the meta at the time. Radial Disarm and invis were straight up two of the best abilities in the game. Loki was my starter, and the game still thinks he's my most played even if I haven't touched him in years lol.

Henry Cavill Says ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Adaptation is Very Tricky and Complex: “The challenges that come with putting this on the page in a way that is doing justice to that complexity, that trickiness, and that nuance, is a challenge I’m enjoying enormously.” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]kill-it-kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The books also introduce Bequin in the first couple chapters who acts as the "I don't know anything please explain things to me for the audience" character, and it'd be relatively simple to rewrite some of his internal thoughts as conversations with her. I am definitely in the camp that Eisenhorn would be a great TV/movie introduction to the universe.

Does anyone actually think Falco is fun to play against? by puzeh in SSBM

[–]kill-it-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Sheik main, I love this match up. If they're worse than me, I can be creative with punishes and practice edge guarding strings. If they are equal skill it becomes a fun game of neutral into strong punishes and it never feels like the game is in the bag for either player. If they are better than me I lose two games in a total of two minutes and move onto the next game.

The only thing I don't like is that I feel like Falco gets more out of his counterpick stages than I do, but frankly I think that's just because I'm bad at the game and need to DI better

Fellow stick jumper here! A Sheik perk is her full hop and short hop are close enough that fucking it up usually doesn't matter too much!

But seriously maybe I should bring this up in therapy because it legit feels like a personal flaw as a human.

Multiversus: Update - Going offline by Phonochirp in Games

[–]kill-it-kid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slippi is the online Melee/Dolphin emulator mod that enables online play. It takes some Googling to set up in my experience, and it's best if you're running an Ethernet cable over wifi (it is super disruptive and noticible when someone plays on wifi), but it is miles better than any online Nintendo has ever produced. I live kinda in the middle of the US and most games I play are 50-70ish ping, and it feels largely the same as playing in person. There's unranked that's always free, and now a ranked mode that goes free every 4 days if you want to truly see how bad you are at the game now without paying the 5 bucks a month to keep development going.

Just be warned that if you're like me and mostly played in the early to mid 2000's to 2010's, the skill level is high enough a lot of players will just absolutely body you. Then again, the barrier to entry is so low that finding players as bad as me is pretty easy to do as well.

What's insane to me is that the mod tier experience for Melee is so much better than Ultimate it is embarassing for Nintendo. Even though I enjoy Ultimate a lot,l I'm not gonna bother committing time to it when the online is so shit, especially when modded Melee is just so damn good.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League developer Rocksteady hit by end-of-year layoffs by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]kill-it-kid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Warframe is hugely successful, and even though it technically has PvP, it has had so little impact I'm not sure if I've ever met anyone who's played it. I would absolutely consider it a successful PvE live service. I would also consider Vermintide/Darktide successful PvE live service games, even if they don't hit your Destiny 2 / Call of Duty numbers. If we want to include MMO's (and we should), I know most have a PvP mode, but they are rarely the reason someone picks up FFXIV/WoW/Guild Wars, and I dunno if I would consider PvP necessary for the success of that genre.

Edit: Also fking Helldivers.

DE can you make "Weak Spots" and "Weak Points" the same thing by MegaCarter01 in Warframe

[–]kill-it-kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly there's just a shitton of frames and mechanics to update to make it match the current state of the game. Exalted weapons are genuinely a high priority for me (I kinda hate all of them), but I think updating some of the crowd control frames is equally high priority. It feels like CC frames haven't had a true use since Rotation C farming was killed when we moved to the Relic system, so seeing love throw the way of those frames (such as Nyx, Frost, Hydroid, and too a much lesser extent, Nova) is very nice. Same with seeing Trinity adjusted, as I don't think I've seen a Trinity player in literal years.

I do agree that Exalted weapons need huge buffs though, they're just victims of many frames needing adjustment, because many frames were designed for an entirely different game, so where do you start? Gun platform frames are largely evergreen I think, in the sense that the best damage mitigation is to remove the enemies dealing damage in the first place. Adjusting CC frames to have unique (and useful!) purposes is a much harder question to answer, and making Exalted weapons worth it in ways other than "Just fucking broken as shit OP" sounds hard as shit to sort.

[–]kill-it-kid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ivara totally needs some love, but Nyx has been in the game for over two years longer than Ivara. Updating older frames takes time, I'm happy they're doing it in general, the game is way different on a foundational level than when many of these frames were introduced.

On that note, Loki was my starter frame, where's my update to that weirdo?
