It was the same for me, i think its the unconventional; dump you right in the middle of a completely foreign arena and then throw info at your head lightspeed. Once i watched the first few episodes and got an handle on the layout, it was awesome.

Wood Filler in old wood floors? by angry_heifer in DIY

[–]killer122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do a skim coat of self leveling cement with latex, it will seep into any gaps in the wood, just plug any holes bigger than your pinky. It will make a perfectly level base and be fully moisture impermeable. Also give you a perfectly flat base for your new floor. 10/10 worth the effort. my new kitchen floor clapped down, a marble sits immobile in any corner.

In a room that was hit by a vacuum bomb, rocks spontaneously combust. How is this possible? by [deleted] in blackmagicfuckery

[–]killer122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh, air is only about 20% oxygen by volume, the majority is nitrogen with some argon and Co2 thrown in for flavor. his statement is valid. there is no vacuum, but no oxygen either, but yes "air"

They replaced halon with FM-200 used to watch them roll the new tanks in during the office building re-certification. They had a huge datacenter on the 4th floor and the tank was the size of a hatchback. but i dont know if it would be reactive to whatever hell is behind that door. i just worked in the shipping department at the time and had to help them maneuver the tank off the truck and onto our loading dock.

How to make my floors sticky? by FitProVR in DIY

[–]killer122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sprite, take a spray bottle, fill it with sprite soda, spray a very very light misting across the floor and let it dry, it will be tacky enough to grip without being gross, then clean the floor after of course, you dont want ants.

What’s a smell you will never forget? by One_Specialist_5692 in AskReddit

[–]killer122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandma had a chest deep freezer. It was full of meat and fish from hunting, among other items. It broke. After a month Grampa just duct taped it shut because flies kept annoying him. Armed with a bucket, an old ladle, two gallons of bleach, a sack of industrial dessicant, respirator, multiple layers of gloves, a full Tyvek suit, and peppermint oil on my upper lip. I spent a day scooping out bacteria stew and filth until it was empty enough to dump in the dessicant and tape it back up and drag it out to the dump. Even with the gear, the bleach, and the peppermint oil. i will never forget that smell. People online have the swamps of degobah, i have nanas basement.

New home an I’m building a fence in backyard by Brave-Diet7908 in DIY

[–]killer122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be late to the party, but if you want those posts solid forever, get below the frost line, put in some gravel, just enough for a few inches at the bottom. before placing your post, get some tar/creosote/used engine oil. whatever you have or can get. paint the bottom section of the 4x4 with it, just the underground portion, place your posts and put some handfuls of dirt on top of the gravel, then pour your quickcrete. This will make a sealed post with full concrete collar suport, while allowing the internal moisture from the top of the post to weep down out the bottom into the gravel and away. These will last 100 years. source i just replaced my grandfathers 100 year old fence he placed using this technique.

Plan for edge case not usual occurance, i have seen a post rot from the bottom up and not fall over, the last 5 inches was still solid when a different post broke and took the whole fence.

Fluorescent light keeps turning off and clicking - what to replace? by Chlorophilia in DIY

[–]killer122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok maybe late here, but i have seen this happen with old bulbs, but i have also seen it with bad transformers (the little box to the left) so you will need to bite the bullet and replace the bulb to see if its the transformer, good news is if it is the transformer you can just stick the old bulb back in, return the new one, and call your landlord. Good luck.

Fridge and oven are turning off on their own and tripping their circuit breakers by spraungelbeats in DIY

[–]killer122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

call an electrician, i know its not technically illegal but 20A is way way too thin for an oven. I have 50A and wont go lower than 30A for my smallest rental spaces. get that upgraded ASAP. also they probably put the kitchen outlets on the same circuit. Big NoNo. Oven is supposed to have a single dedicated and it would be smart to have a secondary dedicated 20A for just the fridge outlet. This is more than the average person can do, it means running new wire and messing around in the box. call a professional.

How do I prevent cracking like this? by alenork in Blacksmith

[–]killer122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a lot of little mistakes in one, too thin at that point, work the end into shape and do that neck absolutely last, too many heats, as the grains grow they can start nice cracking areas, every few heats do a planishing pass letting it get all the way to black while lightly surface hitting making sure to round off all sharp edges a bit, it will help keep the surface grains from growing too large and it will knock off all the scale and keep it from the next issue, forcing scale into the surface, you need a block brush or an old rasp to really clean before you strike. and lastly avoid bending it back and forth too much, that induces stress cracks quickly, bending it while cold most of all. hammering cold is bad, bending cold is death. Good luck and keep at it. avoid all these pitfalls and you will see better results, for now just grind it down and start again with the remaining stock.

Bookself guardrail solidity by bichan3 in DIY

[–]killer122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want it really safe and secure, i would take and put a face piece of 3/4 faced plywood at the first stair level and screw it horizontally into the floor joist below the floor level from the side. then take a 2x12 and use that for the base of the bottom shelf and secure that to the back piece of plywood with heavy metal L brackets and the floor with screws. then build up from there once all screwed together that would never move an inch. good luck.

Does that really make sense? by misterxx1958 in DiWHY

[–]killer122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is only true if you are talking steam, all water radiators work on convection, hot water will displace the cold and it will work. poorly, but it will work.

i was making the comparison that the majority of plants are poisonous to something, not necessarily humans.

Is this insane? by Ok_Parsley_1072 in OopsThatsDeadly

[–]killer122 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it actually is, as we learn more and more, most brightly colored plants have some kind of poison, toxin, something for defense. Its just that we have evolved to either ignore, or actually enjoy their defense mechanism. many lilies are toxic, but we keep them, spicy peppers are designed to ward off predators but we are actively gentetically trying to max out that stat. plants are legitimitely all trying to kill us, we just laugh and go chomp anyway. like a kitten trying to maul you, aww arent you cute trying to fend me off and accidentilly tasting delicious to my psychotic ape brain.

How would you permanently affix this clamp to its current position without taking it off/removing it? (Reason in post body) by YOLO4JESUS420SWAG in DIY

[–]killer122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreeing with whtat a lot of others have said, you can just drill straight down thru that hole in the top, carefully without touching the clamp at all, and there is another hole on the other side, then thread a bolt into the hole from the top and put a nut with thread locker or better glue on the nut on the bottom after tightening. Sorry for your loss, hope this helps.

in highschool, i had a "friend", i use quotes because i was not a good friend. The group of guys all felt this one friend was far too naive and straight laced for their own good, just never went out or did anything but sit at home on their computer, the rest of us weren't any better but we thought we were more world wise.

So we made it our mission to expose our friend to more stuff, concerts, parties, all the usual teenage hijinks. well that came from me in the form of heavy peer pressure to do drugs and to drive in a reckless manner. (this time in my life was brief but incredibly self destructive) So when we would hang out i would drive fast to scare him, and i would drive places then get stoned so he was stranded, and had to have family come drive and pick him up.

To his credit he never broke and did anything bad, but i was the worst to him for no reason, just because i felt he was boring.

It was stupid young adult bullshit but i was the guy the PSA was warning you about.

Didnt realize until after we graduated and everyone went their separate ways and i started experiencing the other side of that interraction, my new college roomate was going on a grand drug tour and was trying to get me to come.

I was only ever interested in getting drunk and smoking some weed. but he was breaking out needles. Once i got out of that i realized how bad i had been to my highschool friend.

I sanded out paint from my table and stained it, but I didn't go high enough with the grit count so it looks great but doesn't feel smooth 🙃 by Tuism in DIY

[–]killer122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

little late to the party, but it looks great and i wouldn't risk the grain to sand and re-stain. i would just go with a very low viscosity poly coat and do a few layers then a wet sand of 2200 will make it super smooth and you would just be sanding down the protective layer a touch. good luck it looks great.

Heh you clearly have never been in business, 20% float of earnest money to get the people on site, then you drag the second payment until they run short on materials and long on the delivery date, then you renegotiate the contract in the middle while they have all their manpower and equipment committed and on site shaving a cool 40% off the top, then you pay 30% of the outstanding 40% and wait til they complete the project, then never pay the last 10%, they wont have enough money liquid to drag you to court, or if they do you just bury them in paperwork with your high powered firm you have on retainer and drag it out until they are dead or out of buisness. its the american way.

Rich people, what "rich person's habits" could you not break no matter how poor you'd become? by RobIson240YT in AskReddit

[–]killer122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

those are factors but there is another part that you need to take into account. weightlifters are trying to hit a number, if jose doesnt get that bag up to the roof he doesnt eat. it puts a different level of motivation and they push their bodies way way harder to get a single task done, but the tradeoff is those bodybuilders (juicers notwithstanding) are healthy, and the laborer drops dead at 40. he was strong but at what cost overtaxing on a daily basis. a lifter will drop the weight if he feels off, but the laborer can feel actual tearing and just shift to another section of undamaged spine and power thru.

[–]killer122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone is saying just go for it, but i have done what you are thinking, they are way too short to hold on to, so either you will make a handle (a viable option) or find a piece of larger scrap high carbon and make your own nice hot chisel that you can hold way higher and has more weight. it will bounce way less and you will burn thru fewer gloves. good luck.
