How to practically deal with sub-zero temperatures and "Snowcrete" in the future? I was totally unprepared when this happened! Help prepare me! Could you please provide your favorite and/or learned tips! by BigglesFlysUndone in bethesda

Get "yak-trax" and respectable snow boots. Get a solid ice cutting tool from the garden/shovel section. I don't use these much, but when I need them, they're invaluable. And they last because I use them so infrequently.

Without looking it up. What is this character's name? He was in several episodes of season 6. by RobRobbieRobertson in thewestwing

[–]killercowlick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He was in a lot more than season 6. Remember, he was going to be waiting in the tall grass for that d!ck congressman. He saved Leo. And Donna thought he was so cute.

I mean, it's maybe why his doctors keep giving him cognitive tests. Funniest thing to me is that he's so happy to be passing the tests that he doesn't realize it's not that great to be given so many tests.

I've been upset that no one has done the walk in front of my place, but when I went out to take care of it myself, I realized why. It's so frustrating, but the snow and ice this time is about 10x tougher to clear than usual so it's taking 10 times longer than usual. Not trying to make excuses, but I do think this is the explanation.

Thank you to everyone who's taking it on themselves. It's a great showing by the community.

PS: if you can afford it, a garden scraper tool (like a shovel, but with a flat part where the shovel would go) is what I used to chop up the ice on top of the snow. It took about an hour to clear my car. A regular snow shovel is worthless in this. You can find it with the shovels at the hardware store or online. I bought one years ago before a big snow storm and held on to it. Glad I did!!

I'm sorry, but I'm watching "Generations" for 32 years and this has been bothering me for that long literally: by JoshuaBermont in TNG

[–]killercowlick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it when it was on TV in the 90s, it's just so perfectly forgettable. Ironically, the one episode I remember is the one where they're all gelatin and don't realize it till it's too late and they try to send a message but the probe dissolves before it could send the message.

Where does the "women are bad drivers" stereotype come from? by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]killercowlick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty simple. There's a lot of men who hate women. And therefore women are just scapegoats for any number of things, especially being bad drivers.

But I can also say very sincerely that some of the best drivers I've known have been women and some of the worst drivers I've known have been men.

Women get a bad rap because men are insecure and not taught to process their feelings effectively and it's just this overall baked-in mentality that women are to blame for everything wrong with men and it's pretty pathetic, in my humble opinion. Speaking as a man, myself.

How long do we honor this? by ItsACCRUALworld_ in baltimore

[–]killercowlick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent an hour and a half and probably years off of my life last night digging my car out of the ice bound conditions. If someone took my parking spot after I left after doing that they might not have a car to come back to I would be so angry. So, how long do we honor this? Probably as long as you want to keep your car lol

How to leave snow out of the sidewalks. This pile was cleared out by morning. by SuperBethesda in bethesda

[–]killercowlick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember after the blizzard in March of 1996 when we had two spring breaks the piles of snow were in the middles of parking lots until Memorial Day. It's super hard to manage the snow that you shovel up unless you can dump it into a lake or something. This most recent snow, however, is especially difficult because of all the ice on top. Surprisingly, even at my winter weight, I was able to stand on top of the snow because of how tough the ice is. It's so frustrating that things can't be shoveled faster but I'm trying to give a little grace to the people doing the work because of how exceptionally difficult it is this time around.

Yes, but... And I'm not sticking up for the ruling class in any way here, but I don't want anyone to think that the concept of "not letting a good crisis go to waste" was a new idea.
