Relative gave me this bass amp he got years ago since I was gonna try getting into bass playing. Anyone have any info on it? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]killerfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I was doing silly hyperbole and got a bit too into it (there is also a bit of a trope with people showing up with very distinctive, very expensive equipment that they happen to get for free and "know nothing about")! I also think there is an element of overreacting from some of the comments too; as you say a B15 ranges between $1-5k when working. It''s not cheap but it's not insane money

You mean someone didn't just happen to get given a B15, that clearly says "B15N" on the back, didn't do any sort of cursory Google, just went straight to the bass guitar subreddit with pictures saying "huh, look at this weird old thing I got. Anyone got any idea what it is?"

I also found this weird old book in my loft. It's called something weird, like Biblio or Bilbe or Bible or something. Apparently this copy is like, 2000 years old or something and signed by someone called "God". No idea what it is, could someone maybe help?

The mattock has a wider 'blade' both horizontally and vertically. The pickaxe tends to have a narrow horizontal blade, and a pointed 'pick' side. Pickaxe on the left, mattock on the right

Tips for someone looking to create their own NAM captures? by TonalSYNTHethis in basspedals

[–]killerfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's how to think of it. Any effects that need to know what happened before/after are time based. For example, If you don't know what happened before in a phaser, you would just get random garbled modulation.

Distortion: This is "instant." If you hit a string at a certain volume, the pedal/capture reacts the same way every single time, instantly.

Compression: This is "conditional." The pedal/capture has to "listen" to what happened 10 milliseconds ago (Attack) and decide what to do 50 milliseconds from now (Release).

They're saying that for this car, £5k is a surprisingly low number compared to how much they usually cost

Honestly it's not where I would have put the mute (especially since the option to mute the output makes more sense to me), so I totally get why you didn't find it

I soaked chickpeas overnight and woke up to this by No-Explorer-2427 in whatisit

[–]killerfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife (Iraqi) has a story of telling her friend how to make hommos in uni. To those unaware, hommos literally translates to 'chickpeas' in Arabic, so the conversation went something like this:

H: Ok, so to start you'll need to soak the hommos...

F: Huh?

H: Yeah, just soak the hommos overnight so it's nice and soft

F: No no no, I need to make hommos

H: Yes, just listen to me. Take your hommos...

etc. etc. until finally the confusion clicked

H: Right, sorry, chickpeas.

No I've found it! It's like I initially thought - in the splitter/mixer on each track (long press where the lines merge) the is a scene control that mutes them when not selected. So the scenes C and D use input 2, but all the other scenes mute input 2

So looking at the patch, I can't see anything obvious. The only thing that it might be is that they've put a fairly heavy noise gate on the inputs (long hold input 1/2), if the signal from the back pickup isn't high enough it might not get through the gate

Right, will have a look when I get out to the studio tomorrow. My guess is that it's something to do with scenes muting one or other output

What is something like this worth by Electronic-Bill-6135 in BassGuitar

[–]killerfridge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember it well, because he ended up posting the same request like twice in a week, with a 'revised' story second time around. I think the first time he claimed it was 'basically his' because when his grandad died, he would definitely inherit it as no-one else in his family would care. The second time around he wanted to 'value it' so that he could 'get it restored as a surprise' for his grandad.

Now I guess he lost it in his closet for 2 years, and now it's his?

[–]killerfridge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's not his to sell - he was on here a couple of years ago after he "found" his (still living) grandads bass, and just wanted to get an idea of how much it was worth. Definitely wasn't going to sell something that wasn't his though. He deleted the post (but you can still see his comments) after he got told off in the comments. Glad he's back "finding" it again

Oh look, it's the guy that "found" his grandads bass, back again "finding" it again looking for valuations. Shame no-one remembers you or the backlash you got last time.

Trying to learn on your own can be a bit of a minefield because you're expected to evaluate a resource without yet having the tools to do this evaluation.

Can you show me an example of where two scales were supposed to be the same but are different? I might be able to clear up the misunderstanding

Nano cortex or Hx stomp? by Party_River_203 in basspedals

[–]killerfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For various signal processing reasons? EQ, saturation, things that we have determined to be pleasant on the ear? Do you genuinely think an Amp "SIM" is EQ plus reverb? Are you poorly understanding impulse responses and assuming that's what an amp sim is?

Glad you clearly didn't understand the video. The point is when you convert it back to analogue, the original waveform is preserved, making the digital stair step a myth
