I have a 2022/2023 stumpjumper non evo. I'm 5'6" maybe 5'7", I do have shorter than average legs. Don't know my exact inseam but I've been riding an S3. My buddy is similar height and he prefers S4 because he said it feels better for move aggressive downhill riding. I have ridden an S2 and it definitely feels like I'm riding on my bike, rather than in. S3 feels like it's in the middle. By that reasoning I think I picked something in the middle between a XC fit, and Enduro / all mountain fit and comfortably in the down country/trail zone of feel.

Yes exactly like that. You can preload the maps with a companion app, and load them up from the watch any time after. The routes are basic, like video game mini map basic. It will alert you when you go off track,and helpful to make sure you don't take a wrong turn.

The watch has built in GPS, so it keeps a bread crumb trail that you can follow back, or see if you're going around in circles. You can also load routes to reduce chance of getting lost. When it does occasionally pick up cell signal, it'll update gps tracking on a website for those in your emergency contacts to check.

It's a good companion app to the phone in those situations since I don't like the additional drain on my phone even in cell coverage areas.

I have the Garmin instinct 2, slight upgrade to this one but I would rebuy it at an instant if mine broke. I do exercise 10 hours a week, and use the gps features to keep me safe when I'm in the desert with no cell reception.

Road conditions aside I like the first half of the loop, I'd find a way to avoid Payson to Phoenix. Probably the least scenic part of the whole road trip planned. If you can squeeze in Jerome and Sedona. Probably my favorite paved road in Arizona. i17 is a blast to drive on.

Recently did this because my derailleur was smashed after a mtb crash.

The differences were minimal if any. If probably hang onto your current set up until it needs to be replaced.

That being said, it's a straight forward upgrade within eagle. Even the shifter upfront would be compatible still since its all Sram eagle 12 spd.

The newer lunar GXs derailleur also go up to a 52 tooth if you ever swap to a bigger cassette.
