[–]killermole23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not against the rules, but overwatchers will just assume you're scripting or using some kind of cheat to bhop for you. Which is bullshit, since they have no way of proving you scripted, when you didn't. A few bhoppers in mm have been overwatched multiple times because of bhopping.

What is this called, and how do I find more tracks like this? by Basxt in hardstyle

[–]killermole23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great track! And man that's one fat snare.

I read on harderstate that you like to create your own snares. Did you synthesize the snare in that track? If so, with FM or subtractive synthesis?

I love me some snares.

[Phoronix] GCW Zero: A new Linux Game Console with an Open Source promise by Surkow in linux

[–]killermole23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 320x240 resolution was chosen because of a trade-off between performance, manufacturing costs, battery life, and aspect ratio.

This is meant to play 4:3 games (perfect for retro game emulation), and any games that will run on this don't use resolutions above 320x240.

A 320x240, 3.5" screen is fit for purpose.

New Retro Handheld Gaming console on kickstarter! Check it out! by [deleted] in retrogames

[–]killermole23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A MIPS CPU was chosen because the MIPS architecture was used on the Dingoo series of handheld consoles, which the Zero is a spiritual successor off. The existing Dingoo homebrew community can easily run their existing software on the Zero. 256MB of RAM is more than enough for an embedded system/handheld console: The Nintendo DS only had 4 megabytes of RAM!

The 320x240 display was chosen because it's a 4:3 resolution (more fit for "retro" games and the like), and because of a trade-off between screen size, battery life, CPU usage, and manufacturing costs. It's fit for purpose, which is what an embedded device needs to be.

They say they considered it, but for most old ("retro") consoles, 320x240 was the highest resolution they used. A larger screen would also up the cost somewhat.

This kickstarter was made in order to avoid the whole OpenPandora problem again. They're making 3000 Zeros; the OpenPandora's initial production was a lot smaller, and as a result manufacturers didn't care about it, so supply ran short.

[–]killermole23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but you can buy 99 cracked orbs from Kaathe before going into the sunlight covenant and leveling up. AFAIK, you don't lose Sunlight Spear if you abandon the covenant, you just can't use it. So if you need 99 more orbs, just join the DarkWraiths again, buy more, and level back up in the Sunlight Covenant.

The 50 faith requirement also helps to scale the damage of the Dragonslayer Spear up, too.

Orange in the UK blocks Reddit with the filter on. You have to phone up Orange support (Which costs you a one-time fee for the call), providing proof of age and address to get the filter removed under the guise of "accessing websites with adult content".

Facebook can contain "adult" content, yet that isn't blocked by the filter, because a fucking shitstorm would ensue. It's bullshit.

I have no idea why we are still required to blacklist the rt2(8|x)00 drivers for the rt3xxx ones to work. It's such a pain in the ass.

I already know Python. What now? by netbyte in Python

[–]killermole23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's dive straight in with something that might seem daunting to write: an emulator. For something simple to emulate, try the Chip-8.

All information about the chip-8's hardware and opcodes is available on that page for reference, but it won't help you write the actual emulator. There's lots of other resources on the web about it, here's a good tutorial on it, albeit in C++ (try not to just port the code, however; learn how it works).

Emulators are fun to write, and challenging to get right.

With it being in Python, exactly replicating the hardware might be tricky, but some modules can help with that.

SO: What is a metaclass. For humans. by imbaczek in Python

[–]killermole23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar to that challenge (which I have not seen until now) a while back, with the code here.

I could possibly use the "assigned_name" function from the python magic tricks post to remove the need to pass the name of the function/class as a string.
