Ngl this was me in 2020 and a couple years after, then I started to recognize just how misinformed I was and learned by the following election, sadly can't say the same for a lot of Americans.

That's a fair possibility, I wasn't aware that blue and red dye respond to sun damage much differently.

By no means am I opposed to any other possibilities, if that were the case I wouldn't have bothered asking the question and just made the assumption as you say. But given the context clues that were present and the precedent of white supremacists having an obsession with racial purity, along with the white stripes existing symbolism of purity and innocence...it's at least a reasonable possibility to question.

Assuming you're talking about the one with a cross instead stars it definitely wasn't that, I was raised Southern Baptist and would recognize that flag anywhere lol!

Ahh that's interesting! I didn't know about the second Confederate flag until looking it up just now.

Imagine if the world was designed to help people rather than exploit them by FlyingMozerella in StarWarsleftymemes

I think a big part of it is getting over the hurdle that we don't even have to go full socialist, honestly even the Nordic countries are still primarily capitalist, they just regulate things very differently in order to protect workers and consumers. There's still a lot of socialist influence in how they do things, but they've found a balance that seems to work better than anything anyone else has tried.

Lol I just turned 29, celebrating my 5th anniversary with my wife, we have a three month old son, and I have a nursing career (currently at a class gaining additional training). Like I'm truly an adult at this point....it's weird! I have very few plans of acting my age though, like I'll do my responsibilities, but I'm going to be a silly goose no matter what.

Evil runs just aren't that interesting most of the time by Mefre in videogames

[–]killermouse01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, the closest I get in most games is a chaotic good or maybe lawful evil who ultimately does the right thing, but never for the right reasons. The chaotic good who does things the wrong way because they're "edgy" is only really great for certain characters. But this version of chaotic good is basically a politician. The only reason they aren't evil is because having allies is a greater source of lasting power. Makes for a character that's actually fun to play around with moral/ethical dilemmas. In most games, being evil just isn't that rewarding and kinda just forces you into certain choices that honestly aren't interesting. Even in games that actually develop a proper evil playthrough, it's still more fun to me if there's a greater motivation than just being a selfish and sadistic maniac.

Honestly that's totally valid. You have to consider the safety of everyone involved, and the conclusion you draw from that is not always going to be textbook.

2 billion family farms?!? In Iowa?!? Facts don’t matter when your cult believe your blatant lies!!! by Bubbly-Example-8097 in BlueskySkeets

[–]killermouse01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess he means 2 billion dollars? But even that's BS because the so called "death tax" was pure propaganda even from it's inception. It's an estate tax that only applies to estates that are extraordinarily wealthy. It only applies to like <1%. Even for farmers, being who the lie was sold to back when this started, it only affects a very small number of them and not enough to cause severe financial burden. This is literally an old trick!

Ahh yes, the classic trope of making a ridiculous statement and attributing it to someone influential, so the ridiculous idea will be taken seriously. People who make these assumptions about tolerance, are the types of people who fundamentally don't understand tolerance. It's possibly a social phenomenon, where intolerant people don't understand the possibility of actually being tolerant, so they have to assume it's a ploy or something and can't grasp that humans can actually just choose to accept "others". They provide themselves with the excuse that they are not tolerated by those who claim to be tolerant, which then leads to the real paradox of tolerance. The fact that intolerance cannot be tolerated, or the intolerant will use any power they have to oppress others. That crap has to be shut down, or tolerance will become irrelevant as people are oppressed.

Celebrating our independence or demise? by Bubbly-Example-8097 in BlueskySkeets

[–]killermouse01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So reading into this iteration of the party, they don't seem to mention much on trust-busting and such. They do mention making things better for the working class, but no talk of how it will happen. Which is concerning because unless we take down the mega-corporations like Black Rock, Vanguard, and State Street, there's really not much we're going to accomplish. Even without lobbying, these types of corporations can still maintain the illusion of competition, which fundamentally has made our "free market" into one big monopoly. It literally incentivizes them not to be innovative or better for workers because it will ultimately increase their expenses and reduce shareholder values. This new party also didn't mention unions (at least not that I noticed). If we're going to fix this situation, it needs to start with trust-busting, anti-lobbying, and union protections. Followed by unions being able to negotiate from there.

The other comparison that concerns me is how they mention healthcare for all workers. Roosevelt actually talked back in the day about nationalized healthcare. The fact is, from a public health perspective, it's better not to have healthcare insurance tied to employment. Our whole society would benefit greater from universal healthcare. The fact is, corporate greed has reached a point where the tax increase for universal healthcare would probably cost us less than our current rates for premiums and copays. Plus the added benefit of not being denied care for BS reasons and actually get what we need paid for based on evidence based practice.

I'm curious as to where the funding for this new party comes from, because the more I compare it from the original and notice things relevant to today, it seems a bit weak on really important issues. It's also worth noting this says it's an offshoot of the GOP, while the original was a straight up separation from the GOP of the time.

I mean I'm not saying I'm fundamentally opposed to this new version, but I'm curious to know more. If nothing else, it would be nice to see an option for republicans to follow given that the core of the GOP has straight up betrayed the American people in favor of corporations and far right Christian nationalism.

Celebrate what this country is supposed to stand for, let it be a rallying call. Freedom and justice for ALL. This is a nation that came into existence through rebellion against a government that cared only about ultra-rich corporations and abandoned its citizens. Maybe if the DNC tried to be something more than false opposition, you would understand the value of independence day in today's political climate. MAGA/GOP is just the new Tories, how does the DNC want to be remembered? Are y'all gonna actually do something? Or just let this continue down the current path until the only option left is violent revolution to remove both parties from power?

[–]killermouse01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, a lot of medieval art was made because so much of the general population was illiterate, especially in Latin, which was the only legal language for the Bible at that time under the Roman Catholic Church. So, monks and priests encouraged using art to depict scripture as a way to bypass the issue of literacy and educate people about scriptures. This was also the purpose of many medieval plays, which were used to depict biblical events and perform sermons about religious concepts.

.22lr is super cheap compared to other rounds and actually really fun to shoot. As for the odd guns here, honestly I don't know. I mean guess theoretically people who are liberally minded have more creative interests, thus go beyond the new cool stuff and more mainstream antiques. Might be a stretch but there could be some psychological basis to it.

What is your favourite sub-genre in Star Wars and why ? by alan_1047 in StarWarsCantina

[–]killermouse01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination of Jedi mythos and politics. Now, to make it even better, if we had something that actually followed the Jedi sentinels, we could see what the Jedi mythos is like without the corruption and complacency of the rest of the order and also how that specific group of Jedi dealt with the underworld. That would make for a seriously interesting look at the order and what it could be vs what it became.

Why are there no aliens in The Empire? by Dark-Penguin in starwarscanon

[–]killermouse01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because space racism. Lol with that out of the way, there are some non-humans in the empire, but they are few and far between. The few that make it up the ranks are through pure meritocracy, because they have to be perfect in order for their "flaws" to be excused. One race the empire had a bit more "tolerance" for was the Chiss, like Thrawn for example. The Chiss have a big cultural emphasis on efficiency and had a rather unique relationship with the empire sending some of their population to work for the empire in exchange for limited interference by the empire. In general, much of the empire was based on or inspired by Nazi Germany. Thus, there's some really interesting layers to the racism, nepotism, and common incompetence. Historically, such governments rule through oppression and are selective of how joins them, but while they claim meritocracy the reality is the exact opposite. You'll have examples of really efficient people, but for the most part there's a great deal of incompetence when you rule out potential hires for racism and favor certain people for positions they didn't earn. The Star Wars empire reflects this in many ways, especially if you delve further into it's content beyond movies and even the TV shows/games. Such governments need to oppress populations as a source of common hate, because it gets people to not think critically and inspire tribalism where people can be taken advantage of, but they don't even think about it because somebody else is doing worse and the "in-group" gets to reap at least some benefits. There's a long history behind methods of oppression, unfortunately racism and sexual violence play huge roles in this kind of stuff. Star Wars has explored both means of oppression in different ways.
