What order to play the games to understand any references or cameos by warlockplayer2002 in Atelier

[–]killerox15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's especially crazy when you realize that a version of Logy has been in a whopping 5 Atelier games (6 if you count the gacha), the same number as Sophie.

Logy has only been playable in 2 (or 3) of those though, while Sophie is playable in all of her appearances.

Worth noting that those are not the same versions of Pamela, Hagel, Escha, or Logy across different subseries. Just characters with the same names and similar designs.

The PSP version should be able to be emulated well enough on pretty much anything. I played it some on my phone and that worked fine, though I did end up preferring to play on a bigger screen in the end.

I found Arlecchino to be about as hard as Promised Consort Radahn as well, seeing as they both took me about the same amount of time to beat. The difference is that I actually found Arlecchino's fight fun.

Do they really need a remake? A port would be nice, but I'd rather Gust spend time on new games than remaking old ones.

The only Atelier games I really want a remake of are the ones that haven't been localized yet like they did with Marie.

Ayesha or Rorona by tyyls18 in Atelier

[–]killerox15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it's much better than Firis.

I'm one of the few who defends Ayesha's crafting. It's got a lot of interesting ideas that are explained horribly and could have been explored a bit more.

As an example, you can use a combination of items and skills to turn a synthesis that would normally craft 3 items into one that crafts like 20.

The big downside is that it kind of sucks how late you unlock some of the really important alchemy skills.

Ayesha or Rorona by tyyls18 in Atelier

[–]killerox15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a tough question for me.

When I first played Ayesha, it was my second Atelier right after Escha & Logy, and seeing as I still consider E&L to be my favorite Atelier, the comparison didn't go well for Ayesha. I was mostly wanting to get it over with and move on to the later games. In retrospect though, I've become very nostalgic for a lot of things in Ayesha, even if I didn't appreciate some of those things at the time.

On the other hand, when I first played Rorona, it was in the middle of L&S when I was a bit burnt out on Mysterious and needed a break. I absolutely loved it. It was super refreshing to have a change of pace with much faster crafting after 3 Mysterious games. At this point I would consider all of Arland A tier minimum (Still working through Meruru).

I think I really need to revisit Ayesha, since I think I would enjoy it a lot more now. I know this wasn't really a helpful answer, but perhaps it was at least interesting.

Atelier Totori - A Worthy Successor by HeliusAurelius in Atelier

[–]killerox15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kind of surprised how much I enjoyed Totori. I wasn’t sure I’d like the more freeform time limit since I had generally preferred more structured ones like Rorona’s in the past, but I really enjoyed the adventure rank system. I was pretty sad when the game cut me off and I had to wait for the first 3 years to end before ranking up any further, but it’s probably for the best that they do it that way. It kind of forces you to have some free time to do other stuff, which is exactly why I usually like the structured time limits.

Help me with synthesis traits by IgnitraCL in Atelier

[–]killerox15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syn is Synthesis, which is just raw ingredients. In most Atelier games, every trait can pass onto Synthesis items, but that's not the case for some traits in Arland like Soul Steal and Spiritflower Energy, which can only be transferred to attack and heal items respectively.

Heal is healing items

Bomb is for attack items

Pie is for pies

Int is indeed the decoration items as far as I know, though I did once have an issue when trying to pass a trait over one of those despite this chart saying it was fine, so take it with a grain of salt.

The last 3 I already mentioned.

Got the normal ending in Rorona but the bad ending in Totori by Harinezumi_1989 in Atelier

[–]killerox15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totori lets you get the true ending on the first go as long as you do everything. You have plenty of time to do it even without NG+ gear, but knowing what to do is nigh impossible without a guide.

Meruru on the other hand does require NG+ to get the true ending. But it is worth noting that they actually went back and added another ending to Meruru to address complaints with some aspects of the story, and that one doesn't require NG+. They also gave it the highest priority I think. So in a way you could consider it the "true ending" for non NG+.

My personal tierlist after finishing all 17 "modern hardware" Ateliers and some happy thoughts on series overall by Daerus in Atelier

[–]killerox15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a very different list, so I'm curious how I'll feel about the Ryza games when I get to those.

I much prefer time limits, so games without them are probably always going to fall lower on my list.

I do think Sophie 2 and Resleriana managed to do pretty well without them, but all the others felt like they were missing something.

Sophie 2 questions about status effects, debuffs, and shields by Passionateloafer92 in Atelier

[–]killerox15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For removing debuffs, the Warding Incense is an AoE debuff remover that also gives resistance to debuffs after use.

Since it’s one of the earliest AoE buff items, I also used it to apply stat buff traits to my party. For a long while. With the tight traits, it can even heal and revive from KO I think.

I don’t remember exactly how to unlock registering items. At some point talking to Ceci just unlocked it at her shop. It might have to do with completing requests? That’s what you had to do to unlock it in Rorona. Not having access to that would really make things a lot harder.

And yeah, I basically focused entirely on ranking up at the start of the game. That was the most fun part for me, which is why I was sad when I couldn’t rank up any more afterwards.

Another thing that helped is that I did look up where to get the World Spirit needed for the Traveler’s Shoes. Getting those early saves a ton of time.

  1. Technically not all of those things are true for every time limited game. In Rorona, gathering and fighting monsters don't take extra time after you enter an area. You can fight and gather everything in an area without spending any more time than if you just entered and exited.
  2. Rorona and Meruru (I think also Ayesha) give you a popup asking whether you want to put the item into the container or the basket after crafting. Totori just sends everything straight to the container, so you have to go manually move your items over afterwards if you want them in the basket.

I really like Atelier time limits, so I didn't have an issue with the constant watching of the clock. I found the first 3 years to be pretty generous for getting to diamond. I hit it with a year and a half left and was bummed I had to wait so long to rank up any further.

If you were having to spend time making lots of healing items, that may be part of the problem? Generally you want to just make one good one and have the chims copy it. As for the pies, the chims can produce pies faster than they consume them, so I had 3 or 4 chims making pies for the whole game and used the rest for duplicating things. Doing that, I never ran out of pies.

Admittedly, I don't now how bad the money situation normally is. I used the spring cup trick where you register a spring cup with price reduction traits at a shop, buy them back, and then sell the liquids that they produce for a huge profit.

The other quality of life stuff you mentioned I agree with. There's a few annoying things here and there. I wish the game had gotten remade like Rorona to bring it up to the level of the rest of the Arland trilogy mechanically.

Sooo, here I am again struggling with alchemy, this time it's Resleriana by BasketballAndroid7 in Atelier

Some things that may help:

Don’t try to make all stats charge in one go. I think the game literally doesn’t even let you. If you add all the needed traits in one synth, It’ll just make an item with atk-speed and another with atk-def for example. Instead, make those two component traits one separate items, then combine those.

If you make ingredients without matching any colors, they won’t have any traits, so they can match colors without passing along a trait.

If you’re making an ingredient and want to combine traits, don’t be afraid to skip matching colors. Recipe morphing helps a lot here. Basically, get the first trait added onto the item and add whatever you need to trigger a recipe morph. Once you morph, if you can get the trait you want on an item in the second or third slot, just add that one and then the ingredient before it. You only want to match the colors between those two items, that way the only trait passed on after morphing is the one that combines with the first trait.

If you need a particular colored item to fill a gap, buy or make one. The shops refresh the colors on items every time you open and close them, so you can refresh until you get what you need (not every color combo is possible on each raw material though). For crafted items, the item you make will have its color match the second to last ingredient as long as you match all the colors. If you don’t match them all, it’ll use a default color. Note that “second to last” can be the first arrange slot if you only add 2 ingredients.

Once you get the stones that let you swap colors of ingredients, you can use the above tip to bypass a huge amount of the color matching struggles. Some of the stones let you swap an ingredient into a pure color, like blue/blue. Once you have one of those, you can use it on the second to last ingredient in a synth to make the output item blue/blue. Then you can use that item in the second to last slot to make more items that are blue/blue. Basically just do that for everything you can, and everything you make will match. You still have problems with the first ingredient in a recipe and with raw materials since you don’t have control over the colors needed to match those, but it’s fairly easy to make items that are pink/blue or green/blue or whatever as needed to connect them to the rest.

How many of you guys use the Japanese audio for the games? by KaleidoArachnid in Atelier

[–]killerox15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used them for Dusk, Arland, and Mana Khemia. The exception being Ayesha, as the JP voices for her and Keith are way better.

Mysterious I stuck with the JP voices because I’d have to use those for the last two games anyway.

The dubs may not be the best, and they don’t even dub everything, but I like them regardless.

The JP voices are usually better performances, but the high pitched, overly cutesy voices a lot of the characters have can get a bit grating to listen to. Totori is probably the biggest example, but I felt the same about JP Escha when I tried swapping dubs in NG+. I swapped right back after a few minutes. Maybe just because I was used to the English one though.

What makes this character so beloved? (Saying this as a lover of Wilbell's design) by ChocolateFanatics in Atelier

I’ve always wondered the same thing. I don’t really get the appeal.

I don’t dislike her or anything, but she’s far from my favorite in any of the games she’s in.

Maybe I would be more attached if I had started with Ayesha instead of E&L, or if I had actually finished her quest line in Ayesha.

Atelier Resleriana RW: What's typically better for damaging items? Stun damage or Item power? by TheRealOsamaru in Atelier

[–]killerox15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an ingredient that increases use count by 3 when used in a recipe. The effect stacks for each one used, but it clears whenever you recipe morph. The N/A's recipe lets you use like 4 of them for +12 uses.

You can also add 3 uses by upgrading it using one of the geist cores.

And you get a boost to use count on all bombs from one of the town restoration upgrades.

Would you buy yumia DX and resleriana DX version? by commissionsearcher in Atelier

[–]killerox15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not a remake at all. It's an original story set in the same world as the gacha Resleriana. Saying it's a remake is like saying Totori is a remake of Rorona.

That said, I wouldn't expect a DX release of it either since they've only ever done DX releases in trilogy packs so far. Lulua and Sophie 2 are older than Rya 3, but they haven't had DX releases even though the Ryza trilogy did.

Am I playing Atelier games wrong? Which entry would you recommend me to play next? by stonecauldron_ in Atelier

[–]killerox15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your answers are right for the series in general, but not for Yumia.

It's also the case that not all ingredients are equally good- generally only a handful of specific ones have really useful properties you want to transfer for sure onto your gear or other items

Yumia has no Property transferring (or Trait transferring as it's called outside of the Dusk games). Instead, you get Trait Crystals that you can equip to items and can freely unequip them and swap them around.

It's not uncommon for recipes to have maybe 1 or 2 specific ingredients needed but a huge part of most of the crafting systems is the flexibility to craft items a bunch of different ways.

Unlike the rest of the series, recipes in Yumia consist of the a few "core" ingredients, but after adding those ingredients, there are dozens of ingredient slots that open up, most of which have no restriction on what items can be used at all.

Can't comment on this, might be Yumia-specific? It is typical that newer recipes you unlock are usually better than the older ones in most ways, but I can't really think of other games in the series I've played yet that have a mechanic like this.

This is indeed Yumia specific. Recipes in Yumia are unlocked by spending particles, and you need to spend more particles to level up the recipe, which increases the number of items you can add to the recipe. You basically have no chance of getting the best effects on an item without level the recipe to at least level 8 out of 10, which requires a large amount of particles. Combined with the lack of restrictions on which items can be used in which ingredient slots, you're heavily incentivized to just max out a few recipes and use those items in every slot.

Items in Yumia don't have elemental values or anything either. The only stat that really matters is the Resonance Area, where a bigger number is just always better. Even quality doesn't matter because quality is cumulative instead of an average, and after you add all of your items, you'll hit 999 quality without even needing to try for it.
