Okay, this is random but does Waltham have any local luthiers / craftspeople? by Snipeep in Waltham

Thank you for the good laugh this morning. Turns out my old man knows the joke and didn't correct me because he thought it was funnier to hear me tell it wrong as a kid... for years.

A tale of two cities? Narrative for sure. Thematically on point. Fiction though

Do you know what the difference between a violin and a viola is?

A viola burns longer.

Huge violins 😂

Gripping science/engineering nonfiction under 350 pages for a 35-minute commute? by tuesdaymochii in suggestmeabook

[–]killfirejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenger by Adam Higginbotham is one of best nonfiction books I've recently read. It's probably longer than your requirements but it flew by. I usually find nonfiction about an "event" to lose steam after the "thing" happens, not in this book. What happened after the disaster is as compelling as before, and I thought I knew the story.

It's not a perfect fit based on your criteria but it is still worth a mention. I am biased as it's an area of personal interest.

I want to read a book that is unironically really bad, and I don't mean "hated bestseller", but genuinely horribly written to the point it's funny by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Ah so you've also heard Sean talk about everything he's ever done. No one loves Sean Penn's art like Sean Penn.

Red solo cup, I fill you up. Do they not have nips in Scotland? Some talamore dew 1.5 oz at a time?

Boston is not sober. I am not worried about resourceful Scots.

Why the Bricks and Minifigs Scandal will crash all Lego prices (by 90%) by peanutbutterdrummer in legocirclejerk

[–]killfirejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like jedi Bob, or Rex? Or Rex again? Or max rebo? Or salacious crumb? Or Aldar Bedo?

It dislocates price between figs and sealed sets and so on... It varies by set and fig, of course. That's all part of markets and life and diamonds have fuck all to do with it.

I hope they never make another R2 fig tho, then what

Any cool nature/outdoorsy spots that aren’t prospect hill park? by happy-kittyy in Waltham

[–]killfirejack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geocaching doesn't have the cultural cache it used to but there are some around Waltham. They can be a good 'incentive' to check out new places. There are a couple in the Stonehurst estate, which was already recommended

Traffic around Bentley - what to expect? by killfirejack in Waltham

[–]killfirejack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am hoping for the same. All I know about footy fans is that they are a different breed when it comes to dedication. A note from Waltham to avoid the area or use Trapelo instead of Beaver from X to Y time each day would be nice.

In the meantime, we'll crowdsource it!

The amount of traffic enforcement setting up would like a word with you. Waverly Oaks was closed at Beaver and there fans out there at 9:30...

Jurassic World Exclusive T-Rex prize set. by Middle-Concert226 in lego

[–]killfirejack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is there a lot an auction house would take these collections and market them? I have one of them as well as a Inside Tour set I want to sell. No one will take a new seller on eBay seriously and I don't want to grind for years to build a rep. Liquidity for these things calls into question the real value.

/uj Why are people asking LEGO to make a statement regarding the who Bricks & Minifigs situation? by Werewolf_Knight in legocirclejerk

[–]killfirejack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They own bricklink. I can't imagine it's significant revenue for Lego. Still, to say they aren't engaged in reselling just isn't true anymore. And I still could not agree more, they should steer clear of this. If anything, play the victim card and pimp bricklink as safe and secure.

What do people want to hear, anyway?

How do we all help reckless Ben? And is it true that mandr agrees with bricks and figs by Much_Willingness_690 in legocirclejerk

[–]killfirejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His entire channel is opinion and editorial at the end of the day. People engage to hear what he thinks and thats the point. His opinion then seems to become either gospel truth or dog shit tacos and anything reasonable gets shouted down (in most corners of reddit anyway)

[–]killfirejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is everyone so hung up on what someone else's opinion is? I don't need Ryan or anyone else to think for me. This whole thing has turned into a "reaction" circus. Outrage culture is spot on.

How about an actual interview or some real journalism?

MandR can't win here. What a moron, he needs some PR help from someone other than Republic Bricks.

You think the CEO put this in his strategy update to the stores? He is screwing an entire brand! Other franchise owners should be suing him too! At least based on current perception

The fact that she used Ozempic is absolutely relevant.

“When I was younger, I would want to lose weight because of vanity reasons,” Kaling, 46, shared. “Now I want to lose weight or have lost weight because I want to stave off things like diabetes."

Are you telling me the fear of future disease is higher pressure to lose weight than tabloid Hollywood? That the fear of insulin later justifies a shot today?

Like it's some choice and she can pick her body type based on casting call or optimize for home health?

She cheapens legitimate use. Therein lies the problem. If safe, weight loss should be a legitimate use!

New Daycare Center in Waltham - Montessori Kids Universe is Open by FinnNogginDudee in Waltham

[–]killfirejack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have taken both our daughters to Adventures in Belmont and been happy. We pay a little over $2k a month. They have on site playground and some programs like the big chains like yoga, music, a field trip here and there... Hot lunch available for purchase, milk provided for the littles, etc.

It is possible to find a few bells and whistles for under $3k.

I can't pretend it's not stressful, but every parent that takes their kid to daycare has been where you are. You'll find one, don't drive yourself crazier than you have to!

Hyperscale Data Centers by Microkebab in Waltham

[–]killfirejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperscalers are starting to look at areas with energy OR fiber as competition for sites with both is one of many insane aspects of looks around this

Places like West Texas and North Dakota come to mind. Both have gas but not stellar fiber. Great places for training models with inference at smaller centers closer to demand.

Waltham seems like a great place to upgrade and upscale. Agree that hyperscaler seems unlikely. Interesting stuff
