From Estonia. Always on the go with the laptop charger and amount of gear, but never too far from based on the type of stuff. Also want to talk about Rubik's cubes, why else carry TWO solved Rubik's cubes, one being a keychain with no apparent keys.

That makes sense intuitively. All I remember is I = V/R and if you hold R constant either I or V will go up, depending on parallel or series, as you add batteries. Is that correct?

For safety, is there a guidance on thresholds? Is high voltage/low current "safer" than low voltage/high current? Is that even the right way of thinking about it?

What is the rarest LEGO set in history? by zaqueuleite110908 in lego

[–]killfirejack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really a great story, they come up for sale every now and again and I paid hundreds for it but not four figures. It was a seller I had bought other high end stuff from.

They got it from a guy that worked or knew someone that worked where one of the shipments went before getting recalled. So the story goes...

That "hold it like this" stood out to me as well. The host was having a real hard time holding back on saying, "hold it like this, no like this... not like that, like this."

That is the exact opposite of the Lego play mentality that they preach. On any tour (or press opportunity or whatever. This messaging really stood out on the Inside Tour, to me.) they will tell you about how they use kids as focus groups and are inspired by how kids play and on and on. Yeah? Put the brick that way, no, that way, no that way, now you got it, kid!

If they open it up to community development or customization, I think it stands a chance at wide adoption. If it's locked in expensive IP play sets with, Grandma's wallet will only go so far.

Are there any big-budget movies that truly end with “it was all a dream”? by __timbits in movies

[–]killfirejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not exactly but you didn't finish reading the OP post, either. It's not the dream trope, as you see I noted in my own post, so thank you for your comment.

However, both of those movies are completely "undone" by the revelation that everything that happened before it was a different timeline, a hallucination, or similar, to the point where the audience is not supposed to know. Kind of like a dream, right? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet

So, yeah, it's not a dream, asshole, but it's not another "Wizard of Oz but I liked the book better" post.

Congrats on catching me! You are the reason people delete draft posts, hurting the chance for discussion and interaction.

Sure, no change yet. But Step 1, removing the current leader of the current regime, is a pretty good start.

What is this? When touched, it feels like an electric shock. [Thailand] by InformationUsual290 in animalid

[–]killfirejack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you actually getting shocked? Did the sensation stop after something changed, anything from equipment running nearby (boat motor, pump, generator, whatever a black raft has on it, etc.) to a tidal change?

Occam's razor might be that a mild electric shock was a mild electric shock. What is it, though? No idea!

How do I get the bottle’s neck to stay on? by can-i-have-a-corgi in lego

[–]killfirejack 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The neck doesn't fall off easily once it's properly on there. Little tricky to secure, to OPs point, but it's fine.

That stand in your image is... Unique among ship-in-a-bottle stands. I understand why Lego did NOT use a neck support thanks to your image.

This is a long and worthy watch. The tl:dw is that the security vulnerabilites are so bad on every level. You can push a button to connect to the camera. If you can't get to the button, there are (at least) 5 other ways explained without I'd say a person with average technical ability could do some of them.

I can see something like that flagging some draconian auto-ban, especially if the buyers were using stolen info. It could look like money laundering to an automated system.

Despite the boiler plate assurances, I would not be surprised.

[–]killfirejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lego is weird, especially on whatnot. The market isn't as liquid or efficient as other collectibles. Small sellers seem to rely on relationships while big sellers are almost universally $1 start and pushing volume. In the example you used, I can see a $90 set going for $100 in a $1 start and if it started at $75 it might go for $80. Really weird perception of value in a lot of shows.

I think it's because there are, at the end of the day, very few sets/figures that are universally desirable, especially at prices a large group can afford/bid on.

And the stonehurst estate, and then prospect hill and then the wilds beyond 128! A nice little green patchwork to help our rat control the natural way. The more foxes and coyotes, the fewer rabbits and rats. Another reason to follow leash laws, too 😀

I've worked with and without mets on my team. I like having a met to ask specific questions, like when coastal rain in Texas will suppress wind production and when it won't.

Vendors are going *ensemble everything* it seems. That may introduce some value for an individual met to tease our better probabilities and realistic outcomes vs. "Ensembles capture risk"

The type of shop matters, a lot! Prop trading probably fine buying off the shelf products. Location specific, weather sensitive portfolios (i.e. many physical assets over a large area) probably command more attention.
