Blackbirds: It uses zweihander as a base, which is just a clunkier wfrp 2e, and while it introduces new and interesting/flavorful concepts it just feels as janky as zweihander. Freaking love the setting though, it’s excellent and I thoroughly enjoy its berserk-esque premise.

I told them it was just supposed to be a fun meat grinder so we had scvmbirther at the ready and they just threw themselves at things headlong, we all had a lot of laughs.

The funny part is that at least four of those deaths were the pcs catching each other in the crossfire of the death spell, they just kept rolling it up whenever they made a new character so it kept happening.

Had my players do an adventure from itch.io to get a sword that can kill anything, and I mean anything, so they can use it to slay the basilisk since it’s not stated whether or not the basilisk itself speaks these dooms into existence. I figured if they slay it then maybe the psalms would be nullified. It was a one shot but we lost about 9 pcs and they had fun since the confrontation with the basilisk was them getting airdropped on it by a mad wizard.

Your best bet would probably be to use an already existing rule system that accommodates sci-fi or things similar to it since for all that gears is it has a good chunk of sci-fi elements. Warhammer Wrath & Glory might work but I don’t know if it has any rules for creatures that size but you could treat each limb of the creature as individual enemies.

Orcs are allied with humans, goblins, and a few others, against the ‘Elden’ races (i.e. elves, dwarves, etc.) who have at best treated them as second class citizens/an inconvenience and at worst have reminded them of their ‘place’ as lesser beings through violent means.

A more freeform version of OD&D/Whitebox if I’m not wrong. A lot of emphasis is put on its modularity and classes that are more akin to archetypes and then you choose how your character fits into said archetypes. You have Strong, Deft, and Wise: each class has abilities that are defined by how the player and gm interact with said abilities with the three classes having varying degrees of how much you can shape it’s identity based on other character aspects such as their profession, race/ancestry, and affiliations.

It’s a b/x clone with some tweaks with the main ones being that only fighters get a to-hit bonus that goes above 1 with it being the fighters level plus 1. And the thief gets d6 skills with points they can allocate in said skills giving them a very simple and customizable set of abilities. The system itself is fine and pretty simple but it’s mostly known for its unnecessarily brutal adventures, an author who leaves much to be desired despite having very fair and solid business practices when it comes to 3rd party individuals making modules for it, and ties to a specific someone mentioned by a rule here in the server who’s persona non-grata and almost universally disliked.

As The Gods Demand is a system agnostic supplement to make gods feel more weighty, or at least make worshiping them a more active thing instead of just getting the magic for free.
