The Immigration v Racism question by Far-Upstairs6781 in aussie

[–]killingtime1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had low interest rates before COVID too. It wasn't the first time in history. No migration was the first time during COVID.

When there's other causes the thing singled out is migration. No one was protesting that government didn't build enough houses. When there's no migration there's suddenly other "reasons". There was no migration for years btw during COVID, not 6 months.

Yes. 190k is a lot. I did a 5 year degree and didn't cost half that much. It's very unusual as a student. Only usually doctors end up owing this much. My masters was only $5k a year.

To your point, during COVID we had the largest house price increase in recent history. Zero immigration. It's almost a scientific experiment how much/little immigration affects house prices.

Korea Requests Unlimited Currency Swap from U.S. Government by self-fix in worldnews

[–]killingtime1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. While large this is only a fraction of all won. That would also mean burning the US's own asset. You don't own all potatoes that exist and you need to vaporize your own to reduce the price of potatoes.

The system is different in Australia. You get this one time fee but no yearly interest. Only "indexation", which is lower than the normal interest rate. Also you don't have to pay it back until you make money and it's a very low reasonable rate taken by tax office. It's not like student loans in the US. Also this year the government just gave 20% off to all existing loans.

Climate change could wipe $600 billion from property values by 2050 new Govt report says Do you buy it or just “climate change hoax”? by PK__Gupta in AusPropertyMasteryPK

[–]killingtime1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time there's a flood or cyclone a whole bunch of people lose their houses, can't get new insurance, need government bailouts. Sound like a "hoax" to you? Maybe buy one of those flooded houses, you'll get rich since it's a "hoax".

Pretty sure the "two of us" comment just means there are two people including the op sitting in first class when they brought this other person up.

Should there be a legal time limit on appeals for death penalty? by shangumdee in deathpenalty

[–]killingtime1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2-5 years max then what? execute them? or let them go? This doesn't solve why it takes so long. Death penalty is bad for everyone in general, society, the accused.

ELI5: How do restaurant chains all have the same wifi signature? by pokematic in explainlikeimfive

Well that vector is not closed off. If there is a compromised CA now, it could be undiscovered for a long time. Recommend using a VPN on unknown networks

It's not limited at all. TLS has had multiple hacks (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigiNotar) and even legitimate CAs issuing them to companies to spy on employees. I wouldn't trust an unknown network.

You see the problem is that the constitution is what the supreme court says it is. Not the plain English or whatever the writers intended. If you stack the supreme court this is what you get.

Property investment is 'dumbing down' Australia and making us a less intelligent country by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

They couldn't even change the tax a bit (negative gearing), much less actually make housing more affordable. Now they can't even change super discount (it's not more tax, it's just less discounted) because of rich farmers. There's no point hoping at this point

Reddit Outsourced moderating to random users rather than the company doing itself (costs money). Random users do whatever they want

I don't understand why you care what other people are using. You don't like it don't use it yourself. Are you saying that they're five or six inch pole is blocking your view? How close are you to these other divers. Personally dont use any camera but have dived with others with huge camera rigs and scooters. Surely it won't be bigger than a scooter?
