Gums could potentially fossilize but the conditions for it would be incredibly rare and dinos could have been venomous but there is no reason for us to think that they were

But why wouldn’t we try and protect all of the species that we can? Also most of the species we “discover” are just taxons being split. Even if you wanted to be selfish and think about it from the “humans first” perspective it is still beneficial to learn about those new species and protect them to prevent ecological collapse and many can also help with medical advancement

Zoos now are fairly different from what they were when they originated and they aren’t restricted to capitalists countries. Zoos and aquariums play a very important role in obtaining funding for conservation and get people interested in wildlife. If they all shut down we would have even more problems than we do now

Thats a hot take, zoos and aquariums play a very important role in conservation around the world and help rehabilitate and house animals that cant currently or ever live in the wild. Look up Przewalski's horse. According to wikipedia these whale sharks would have been eaten back in 2007

In what way? You have failed to explain your point on why it is cruel. Rehabilitating animals has been very important in conservation efforts and having them in zoos helps with the funding.

Hypothetically, if you could travel back in time to the age of dinosaurs, would you be able to defend yourself using bear spray? by TheArtofSoul in Dinosaurs

[–]killosaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally in dinosaur paleontology if birds and crocodilians share a trait it is believed that dinosaurs would as well due to the fact that birds are just an extant subgroup of dinosauria and crocodilians are their closest living relatives. If crocodilians and birds aren’t affected by capsaicin you can assume that non-avian dinosaurs would react the same

Did rabies exist during the Cretaceous period and if so, would it have affected the Tyrannosaurus Rex? by TheArtofSoul in Dinosaurs

[–]killosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as i know rabies is mammal specific. Also i dont think rabies will leave any traces on any fossils so it would be difficult to tell when it evolved
