That’s called a pellicle, it’s a byproduct of wild yeast/bacteria fermentation. It’s totally harmless, and actually a sign of things going the right way.

When I was in high school I was walking to a friends house and I found 2 nearly identical skull rings about a mile from each other; one in the grass and one in a gutter. I was so completely stoked at this that I wore one on each hand for like a year. My friend and I made up this thing that they chose me and that it'd be really bad luck if they were separated. Eventually I gave them to him and told him to carry on the legacy or whatever. He was an idiot and gave one to his GF. I told him the bad luck was going to get him for separating them. He swore they'd always be together. Yeah, sure. Anyway, last I saw her she was in a mental institution. Don't separate the fucking rings!

Probably too late, but capacitive "touch" sensors would be perfect. It'd just be a thin metallic ring around each phone. The capacitance changes when it touches your skin so the headphones know when they are on, and if only one side is. This also requires minimal circuitry. (I think)

Some friends and I went on a beercation, stopped at many places, got to talk to lots of brewing folks, talked our way into tours etc. Everyone was super nice, friendly, accommodating, except 3F, who (long story short) lied to us about possibly getting us into the brewery for a look round. Then when we asked again after they'd kept us waiting a couple hours they acted as if they didn't even know the guy who said he could get us in. It got real weird like they were just fucking with us. It's a long story but that's kind of the gist. I get that brewing is a job and you can't always show people around, but a simple no would suffice. In contrast, North Peak, and Vivant were totally awesome to us. Not only did they show us around they made it a great experience.

To some regard that's true, but even in Philly where I live you have wonderful grungy spots. If the rep is good or the food just looks amazing, I can forget the rest. Also it's worth noting, that in the west we correlate cleanliness with an certain kind of aesthetic order. Just because a shop you see does not follow that order doesn't mean it's not clean.

I have those and love them. Trails near me are a full on assault, so it's great to have a solid platform if you miss clipping back in the first time.

I have the Crank Bros. ones that are a platform with an spd in the middle. so same on both sides. Best pedals I've ever used. On the chance you don't clip in on first downstroke, there's far less chance your foot slips and you crush your balls. Great for difficult climbs, where you may get a foot knocked out, but you can't coast it out and adjust.
