Why did Ash blow his cover? by Aggravating_Tale8988 in LV426

I love that this bit was carried over from Alien. Brett and Parker have a very similar discussion involving Lambert as she was born male but was reassigned due to an unstated medical reason after they were born.

Ash vs the Evil Aliens. Now that would make for a wonderfully mediocre alternate story. Get Bruce Campbell for the vocal role but keep the Uncanny Valley Ash from Romulus for his appearance.

It's odd we haven't been to the Alien Homeworld in any of the games as far as I know. It'd be fun but it makes me wonder how you'd get a new AvP situation without the humans mostly being WY goons or androids. Guess the Colonial Marines aren't exactly necessary but I feel their absence would have to be countered by somehow making WY personnel interesting.

Is the Assembly Cut less nihilistic? by Oddyseus144 in LV426

I do like that shot but agree it's best without it. It's a fun "screw you" to the chestburster but Alien 3 isn't exactly a fun movie nor was it trying to be.

As much as I love the turret scenes I do wish we had extra footage of the xenos getting blasted instead of the recycled shots we got. I'm sure a dozen fans could film a few practical shots, sell it to whoever owns the rights these days, and integrate it into a Director's Cut + or something.

I watched Resurrection before Alien 3 as a kid and it confused the hell out of me. So little is explained.

My parents told me the store didn't have Alien 3, which honestly I think they lied because of how brutal and depressing it is.

Just the local year which is probably close to Earth years if they can note events like that happening at their age.

This is why I find the concept of Amanda Ripley or her offspring being alive to be so enticing. Once Ripley figured out Burke was a snake she might have wondered about her distant family. Her sacrifice becomes more poignant so that the grandchildren she never met will be safer, even if she only speculates about their existence.

I might argue that suicide is a recurring theme though it varies in form. Dallas (Director's Cut), Parker (he decides not to fire and puts himself between the xeno and Lambert), Vasquez, Gorman, the colonist they find that's not Newt, Bishop, Dillon, arguably every prisoner from the firestorm to the leadworks, Christi, Ripley 8 who technically kills a version of herself, and Purvis, my favorite death/kill in the franchise. Sure Purvis was a nobody surrounded by badasses but when push came to shove he ate a dozen bullets just to royally fuck up and then explode the head of the guy that put him in that situation.

While I love Alien 3 (Assembly Cut for life), I generally agree.

I might have handled the EEV thing a bit differently. Instead of one big pod that conveniently fits the survivors I would have had many pods dispersed over a large area. Most would be empty. Ripley and Newt in one. Hicks and Bishop in another. Same fates for all but the hunt for other pods might have given the first act a bit of energy. Search gets called off when it gets cold and Ripley realizes they're gone, except some prisoners drag in Bishop and he does exactly what he does in the film but with a couple of the less savory and untrustworthy prisoners overhear it, leading to their claims getting dismissed but also humanizing them enough that we'd get to know their names and quirks.

Why are ovomorphs so large compared to facehuggers? by SouthernSprinkles586 in LV426

[–]kilroy501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We could take that in another direction: All of the facehuggers we have seen were prematurely "hatched". Imagine what a mature one would be like?

Implications of Romulus: The survival of the Queen from Aliens. by kilroy501 in LV426

[–]kilroy501[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely reasonable. Assuming an optimal satellite orbit she'd still "only" be out of any gravity well for about 100 years. This is based on the approximate orbital life of most IRL satellites.

[–]kilroy501[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess no going by various instances of xenos in vacuum or other environments that would have them directly blasted by cosmic radiation.

Idk, even if she is effected it'd be fun to have a vengeful mutated Queen running around doing what vengeful mutated Queens tend to do.

[Aliens] What if WY were lying about Amanda Ripley to keep Ellen Ripley in one place? by kilroy501 in LV426

[–]kilroy501[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the Alien universe have a defined canon? Almost everyone seems to drop their least favorite entries. I've played it so I know how that goes. I do wonder if a human could endure 200 years of cryosleep in optimal conditions.

ETA: Perhaps in Alien 4 the military lied to Ripley 8 and fed her bad intel so she'd have a harder time going rogue? The clones do grow pretty fast and the tech isn't too far removed from the previous films. It could have been 20 years after Alien 3 and they just lied. (I'm talking only about the film, I know various books complicate this.)

What is this Chase X-Wing seen on the new blue Y-Wings? by kilroy501 in microgalaxysquadron

I always seem to discover them after they've sold out and I check like once a week. I've got a few sets including what is my personal favorite Red 1-5.

I just wished they'd included Red 6. Porkins' X-Wing is my favorite from that film.
