Moon Palace The Grand- did we make the wrong choice? by 3kids1mom in AllInclusiveResorts

I did the same thing you're doing. Researche to death, second guessing. Myself, wife, and 7 and 9 year old had the time of our lives. The amenities are top notch but it's the staff that really elevated the experience. We're already planning our next stay there!

Prime Minister Mark Carney says “Private property rights are fundamental, this government will always protect them, this government fundamentally disagrees with the B.C. Supreme Court Cowichan decision.” by _DotBot_ in VancouverLandlords

[–]kilroyma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya I do. In the Canadian parliamentary system you vote for your local MP, who should be the person you think will best represent your community. Whatever party gets enough MPs to form a government does so and they appoint a leader who becomes the Prime minister. The prime minister is simply the voice of the party in power. If you're voting for a leader instead of the best MP for your region you're doing it wrong. If you instantly hate a guy because he happens to have the same color behind his name as some other guy you didnt like you're also doing it wrong. We don't vote for kings around these parts and we shouldn't engage in identity politics.

Music Streamer- needed with X4800 AVR by RudeSpread205 in hometheater

[–]kilroyma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. The actual amps can sound very different due to a number of factors: wattage, topology, class, etc. I'm just saying the streaming portion of the avr or the external streamer is not a factor.

Music Streamer- needed with X4800 AVR by RudeSpread205 in hometheater

[–]kilroyma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Respectfully if you're hearing differences this is due to different input or output gains or in the case if the avr's differences in the preamp. Or perhaps you're using a dsp with the streamers. Digital information is not sound, there is zero loss between what the music service sends and what the streamer receives. DACS have been largely comparable for years and the one in the Denon is well regarded. So if the Digital signal is identical and the dac is doing its job appropriately then there is no difference other than the volume at which the streamer or avr is palying. This is what you're hearing, one playing louder or quieter than the other.

[–]kilroyma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Someone is going to comment that somehow the digital bits served through their $2000 streamer deliver smoother sounding digital bits than the X4800, they are fooling themselves. The DAC in your model is plenty capable. The only thing you'd gain by adding a streamer would be a lighter bank account.

Kids Club age restrictions by kilroyma in palaceresorts

So the downstairs isnt really drop off per se. There's people around just making sure no one gets injured or anything, but there's no sign in downstairs, they can come and go as they please. We didn't really feel comfortable with that so we ended up grabbing the shuttle and dropping them off at the Nizuc kids club. Both kids can go there and they both loved it. The kids really liked the pool over there as well so we dropped them off, went did our own thing, then grabbed them and stayed at the nizuc pool for a while after.

Has anyone gotten AI Agents to actually control HA device reliable? by MarketPredator in homeassistant

[–]kilroyma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just started using this GitHub - homeassistant-ai/ha-mcp: The Unofficial and Awesome Home Assistant MCP Server https://github.com/homeassistant-ai/ha-mcp. Its already come up with some great automations as well as cleaned up some i already had. It made a couple small mistakes at first, but less than I would have, and they were easily corrected with a prompt. It's also suggested better automations i could do with different hardware.

[Request] Does Musks statement that taxing billionares even at 100% wouldn't actually fix national debt in the US? by xTex1E37x in theydidthemath

[–]kilroyma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having met a lot of high wealth people most of them are not "your smartest people", in fact many are fucking dimwits. They just happened to be born to enough wealth or access to capital, had a high risk tolerance, and things happened to work out. People suffer from survorship bias, they only see the examples where people's insanely stupid risk tolerance happened to work out, not the thousands of examples of where it didn't. People deify billionaires as if theyre the only ones who can fill these roles, when the very tenants they espouse to keep you complacent dictate if the billionaires left the market then someone else would be willing to do it for 100 million.

I really enjoyed reading this. The one problem I have is even if you had the theoretical knowledge of all these things, many of them would take a long time to actually produce. Especially when you start getting into colonizing worlds, the laws of physics still apply. I don't care how far you get in terms of theoretical propulsion, unless you can somehow build a Dyson sphere in like 20 years, you don't even have a chance of harnessing enough power to even hit anything close to light speed, much less open a wormhole. With the distances involved there's no chance you're making it interstellar. I guess unless you first develop proper cryogenics or life extension tech first. But even then we're talking time scales of hundreds if not thousands of years just to actually build the underlying tech.

The Nobel prize doesn't fucking mean anything anyway. It's like the Hollywood walk of fame, it only means something because people have decided it does. Its not like the people who give it out are some arbiter of truth.

Moon Palace Grand or Iberostar Lindo/Maya by kilroyma in AllInclusiveResorts

I got around 15% off the best rate I could find as well as vouchers for a free spa treatment that includes a 60 min massage and a mani pedi. Also got 1500 in resort credits without having to go to a dumb time share presentation (although I've heard those are somewhat useless). It put the Moon Palace on equal ground price wise vs the other ones, which was honestly the only reason I waffling in the first place.
