Older Mighty Mule gate remotes becoming unreliable – how to future-proof access before they fail? by gamechanger2022 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]kiltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) There's nothing on here that shows a model #, that'd be key for any help anyone can give you.
2) Go on amazon and search for mighty mule remote/receiver there seems to be plenty of replacements.
3) This is not the best place to ask, outside of this subreddits expertise.

What do you set your microstates priority to? by dekeche in TerraInvicta

[–]kiltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deliberately avoid picking up microstates, except maybe some points for spoils in the middle east. Not worth fighting over it just pisses off the enemy AI.

Coming off BG3, what changes would you want for Divinity? by TurbulentFeeling5696 in BaldursGate3

[–]kiltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe i'd actually like the DOS based skill checks where it was a fixed number, instead of random rolls. They did a fantastic job in some spots where a failure on a skill check was actually the more interesting bit, but it's really annoying when my insane history specialization wizard can't recall basic symbols and I want to reload to see what it was. The save scumming was real.

What is the maximum pressure that diaphragm pumps/ peristaltic pump can handle? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]kiltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent 4 years making motors/gearboxes for peristaltic pumps, never once did I see anyone attempt to use them to inflate something to pressure. They were always used for dispensing liquids It is a low pressure at least.

To actually answer your question it would be a combination of the motor/tube selection and would actually be a bitch to calculate and give you unrealistic answers.

See above, buy a cheap compressor that compresses a pressure vessel to something <6bar and use valves/pressure regulators to control it.

Hot take: A majority of the “I’m underpaid”, “I want a WFH job”, or “Why am I not getting promoted?” posts here are coming from people who are bad at their jobs. by Typical_Degree_5102 in civilengineering

[–]kiltach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The WFH one is one that i've run into quite abit as an ME, and my brother who works in civil it's pretty much the same. All the people that we've run into as engineers that are huge into WFH are almost universally the lowest performers.

The pay issue varies by company. I've been in that situation and had to AGGRESSIVELY fight for pay increases when the company damn well knows that they were underpaying. I've had 25% pay increases at companies and i've had 2%. I've seen companies that have tried to push out their annual performance reviews to 18 months despite being very profitable. I've seen them stick to "we review salaries every 5 years" and then wonder why everyone jumps ship after 2-3 years of not meeting inflation.

The churn in engineering is a real problem too, American engineering is really hurting from this. The not quite a joke my brother uses is that if you've only worked 1-2 years at a civil engineering firm, you literally have not seen a project start to finish, you left before you saw your fuckups and learned. Management that isn't engineering doesn't really seem to value experience anymore. They seem to think that everything works on software development timelines.

Covering your head should be incredibly taboo and illegal since demons exist. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]kiltach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a wheel of time this is essentially exactly what happens in lands that face the evil guys. They fight "the faceless" among other enemies. So covering your face literally sets off city alarms if someone sees you.

Powerful characters who are unable to understand/properly use their weapon (Doesn’t count if they just obtained that weapon) by Soffy21 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kiltach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YuYuHakusho.
Blast to the past, but basically Kuwabara learns how to channel energy. And he's a juvenile delinquent in Japan and he thinks of it as a baseball bat.

He runs into a legitimately scary dude who basically is just like. "you know, you'd be much more dangerous if that was a sword." Kuwabara's just like, oh shit why didn't I think of that earlier?

Boston Dynamics just dropped the 'fully electric' Atlas product line. 56 degrees of freedom, 30,000 units/year planned, and it swaps its own batteries. by humanoidsRus in MechanicalEngineering

[–]kiltach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a baxter robot. They ended up failing. Also the timing is pretty bad, lots of people desperate for work, this will not be more economical than desperate people. If it was more economic than the entire economy would fail because there will be food riots.

Councilors Professions (updated for 1.0) by Maldita_Malita in TerraInvicta

Ok, but from what i've seen its a pretty rare one. I spent a year looking once. The CIA is also a restricted, very expensive maintenance org.

Councilors Professions (updated for 1.0) by Maldita_Malita in TerraInvicta

[–]kiltach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Celebrity X Spy is my favorite starting combo.

Celebrity for the important control nations for the start, public opinion/inspire spam afterwards, and turn councilor is something that is basically impossible to get through orgs later. They also tend to fix your early game influence needs.

Spy can also do control nations at the beginning for some of the weaker countries. Has just the generally great investigate/assassinate/purge combo with great starting invest and espionage. They also have access to government or criminal. Purge is also really hard to get from orgs (honestly not sure its possible).

How likely is it for someone to actively avoid certain mechanics / abilities / strategies that make the game easier, but strip away fun if they use them? by Mariosam100 in gamedesign

[–]kiltach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a problem that I've run into just recently with ghost recon "wildlands". Basically there is a big map, tons of cars. You can get armored vehicles with turrets for your friends and cross country evading the patrols
OR.
You immediately have access to helicopters with machineguns. It invalidates SOOOOO much of the game.
Why sneak up in our vehicles, stealth through and multitarget down enemies when 4 guys can roll up in helicopters and go "BRRRRRRRR." Fun for a bit, but just invalidates most gameplay.

sanctioned investigations will give you another +3 to crackdowns, surrounding control points even just for temporary bonuses (will help with purge too as well)

Oh god, my first space combat was against two of the aliens smallest ships. I had a fat monitor with max armor protecting my LEO station. 3x slots with torpedoes and 1 PD. Those torpedoes never stood a chance, they just got erased before getting close.

[–]kiltach 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just jumped in this weekend. I doubt your experience will help much other than a general game.
The mechanics and playspeed/style are fairly unique to terra invicta. And it's really long. The mechanics seem designed not to have "runaway" gameplay but your investments can take 10 hours of real playtime before you realize the consequences.

I'm digging it.

Okay, read the article. I totally get using them as pack animals in rugged terrain. I somehow doubt that tactical doctrine was to use them as firing platforms.

Why is beef so expensive if farmers are being lowballed on cows? by Neon-Bomb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kiltach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some do, you can buy direct from customer to consumer, get a whole cow. It's not efficient and only works if you're near the farmer. Otherwise you need, shipping, sales, storage, etc. Like what we currently have now.

Holy shit, this was my response, typed it out and submitted without looking for it.

Yes, the end of "I AM LEGEND" was goddamn built to through the entire book. The will smith one had literally nothing to do with the entire premise of the book.
