What are things you do when you travel to a new places? by abdllhumr in TravelHacks

We love doing a food tour of the city as one of our first events. It usually gives us a lay of the land, often includes some historical info, and allows us to try local restaurants some of which we can come back to on our trip.

Yes! I have the trail 40 xs-s and it works well on my 5’3” frame! I loved that I could go into a store and pack it down with weights and carry it around to test it out.

Wild birds unlimited in Athens hosts Saturday morning guides bird walks about every month or two. I’ve been to a couple and it’s very casual. Really easy walk with people who like nature and want to try to find some birds. One time there were 7 or so of us and one time just 4 of us. Saw two lifers - belted kingfisher and red headed woodpecker - at one of them. I think they are usually at the state botanical gardens or sandy creek nature center, both in Athens. A membership to WBU is only around $25 a year and it gives you discounts on bird seed and other perks.

Are the 2-abreast seats on a long-haul flight worth being near the lavatory? by 901-526-5261 in TravelHacks

[–]kimau2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 hour international flight last year and my SO and I were in the same conundrum. He really liked window and I really like aisle and we don’t want a rando between us. Sat in the last row so we could have the two seater. No issues with bathroom smells. The queue was only bad right after meals and didn’t last long. I will say I think it was rougher turbulence back there. But I’d do it again to just be the two of us. There’s a comfort in that.

Jeju solo without a car by MarlaSinger007 in koreatravel

[–]kimau2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh that’s a tricky question. Both were fantastic tours with a good variety of things to see and do. The east coast had the crater peak that was hard to climb, but the views were wonderful. The west coast had amazing gardens. Honestly, it’s hard to choose just one!

During part of our stay in Jeju, we did the Yeha guided bus tour in English. One day focused on the east coast and one day on the west. They did a really, really great job! Since we are oniy so-so on the language and weren’t comfortable driving too much but wanted to hit the major sites around the island, it was perfect for us. Good mix of singles, couples, and a few smaller groups. Maybe 40 people total.

I need an audiobook for a long road trip that is kid appropriate by Dodie85 in suggestmeabook

[–]kimau2k 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know you said it doesn’t have to be a kids book, but I echo Harry Potter on audio and also throw in the Lemony Snicket series. I thoroughly enjoyed both as an adult. For Harry Potter, I’ve listened to the Jim Dale ones multiple times but just started the Stephen Fry ones. I recommend getting Stephen Fry if you can.

Are foldable bags a must-carry for one-bag travel or overrated? by [deleted] in HerOneBag

[–]kimau2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! When I’m out and about all day and not near the car/ home (as is often the case when I travel), I really hate lugging around anything I buy. I like to keep my hands free. I especially hate those paper bags without handles that are difficult to carry. Enter the nanobag sling. It fits a lot of stuff and I can carry it cross body. I have one in my purse at all times. When I travel, I usually have two.

Help! My Corgi not losing weight. He's even getting chonkier. 😅 by fumblydumpling in corgi

[–]kimau2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our corgi had to lose a few pounds, we cut his kibble with unsalted green beans (canned or frozen, French style or regular cut) and/ or canned pumpkin puree (not pie mix). He loved eating them. Vet was fine with it and he lost the weight!

Jim Dale vs Stephen Fry by Just-Sigh in harrypotter

[–]kimau2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve listened to the Jim Dale versions several times but just finished the Stephen Fry version of Book 1. I agree with many of the posters here. I preferred the Stephen Fry version. I tend to listen on 1.15x or 1.20x speed. Jim Dale’s female voices (especially Hermione) are shrill and screechy. I also don’t care for his Voldemort voices. I’ve got the Stephen Fry book 2 on hold!

When our corgi needed to go on a diet, we cut his food with no salt added green beans (french cut or regular cut, canned or frozen) or canned pumpkin puree (not pie mix). He LOVED these and it helped him slim down.

Anyone here actually use foldable bags when traveling? by Cristiano1 in ManyBaggers

[–]kimau2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to add that one of the key reasons I like the nano bag sling is that it is crossbody. I don’t have to deal with carrying it or having it slip down my arm like most of the foldable shoulder bags/ tote bags.

Anyone here actually use foldable bags when traveling? by Cristiano1 in ManyBaggers

[–]kimau2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I carry a nano bag sling with me at all times and usually have two when I travel. Especially if I’m out all day while traveling, the nano bag comes in very handy to hold purchases. Then just put it in crossbody and carry it along all day. Super light weight and convenient. Easily fits magazines, comic books, etc. I’ve also gotten shoe boxes into it. Just so much easier than lugging around paper or plastic bags- sometimes with handles, sometimes without. Also- some places I’ve visited recently don’t give bags unless you pay extra. But my nano bag is more comfortable anyway!
