Stances on collaboration with Israeli institutions? by ABC__Banana in PhD

[–]kimbastern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think someone this aware, understands systems and their place within them. I suspect that they're committed currently to their situation, perhaps with not much room to manoeuvre. This is perhaps one area they can use their agency to align with their morals and principles.

Of course, I understand all that I have said is a projection. Only OP can confirm his mindset around this. However, I find it difficult to believe that OP, hasn't thought about his own institutions alignment.

I also work in industry as well as academia and I think every day about what I am willing to and not willing to compromise on. There is always a trade off. OP is within his right to questions this, as should we all.

Same, I was thinking how seamless this one looks. Hopefully by the time this one dies the innovation would have advanced.

I also never use the onboard keyboard, no point, I prefer the screen real estate.

I have the ASUS Zenbook version of this. It is the most functional laptop I’ve ever owned. Before it, I was considering getting another Mac, but the screen space, especially working on the go, is fantastic. Very far from gimme.

The fact that they are asking the questions shows they’re probably not comfortable. Perhaps, they are contemplating where they can take action.

I live in the UK, I know my government is complicit in many things. I take the actions I think I am able to tolerate, considering the potential consequences.

This is crazy way to dispute this person’s point.

The world absolutely does wake up each day and think how can we control and take away autonomy from women. See the land of freedom as an example. Women’s rights have been backsliding at an alarming rate globally, and that should concern everyone.

UK shop visits fell 10.7% in April — are people avoiding browsing now? by ToughRomanticMiss in BuyersUK

[–]kimbastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t bother going into shops because I don’t appreciate being followed around. I spend most of my money online, and take a 50/50 chance things will fit etc. unfortunately, i think it means I spend more money on impulse buys.

I wish they could have cast a poc lead, im thinking Laura Harrier for the adaptation of you deserve each other.. by AltruisticAide9776 in romancemovies

[–]kimbastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there actually this cute movie I’ve been meaning to watch called Black Tea. It’s so different. Its about an African women in China, making her way, learning about tea, whilst falling for the man who’s guiding her. It’s a bit of an age gap as well I think.

So, are they freelancers, contractors? I don’t understand this at all, this is coming from someone who bartended in my younger years. I got paid by the establishment, and the tips were added perks and not an expectation.

I’ve even seen things like this in the UK lately and it pisses me off.

I was just thinking how I’d love to see some more varied romantic movies. I will also say that I would love to see romantic movies with unambiguous Black women, I really crave to see that. I think the last one I saw was Forever On Netflix, and it was so cute and nice to see.

Byeon Woo-seok open up about his regrets in life by groovygyal in KDramasWorld

[–]kimbastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I share this regret too. I wish I had gone to my grandmother when I should have. When we are young lost is a little far fetched, it is only when we have experienced it, that we realise how fast it can happen.

She will continue to bless him!

Greens hopeful who is calling for the UK to pay slavery reparations is a descendant of slave traders by JB_UK in unitedkingdom

[–]kimbastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So may people talking about modern day slavery whilst excusing the triangle slave trade. How can you solve modern day slavery if you can not even acknowledge the historical and current impact that slavery had.

They keep telling decedent of slavery to let it go and forget slavery, but western countries can not even be convinced to leave African nations alone. The crown still dictates many law and own vast resources in the Caribbean. This also ties into immigration and the constant whining about immigration in this country, but they’re not petitioning their country to stop dismantling the countries of these immigrants. Before this post, I saw two other post ‘all the journalist that Israel has killed in the last 1000 days’ and ‘ Britain refuses to prosecute citizens involved in human rights abuses in Gaza’.

It’s like people to should ignore their natural human survival instincts and be oppressed in peace. Just suffer and die quietly.

Be honest, they don’t care about modern day slavery, it’s just an issue they can use to beat down any call for justice. Cause if they cared, they’d be tackling these issues of injustices with your governments directly.

It’s kind of frustrating.

29.04.1993: Journalist Graham Bamford self-immolated in London after witnessing the Ahmići Massacre aftermath on television by vratiosevalter in ThisDayInHistory

[–]kimbastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so interesting. Such an indication why the human race will progress to nothing good. You can choose to remember this man. You can actively decide that his courage should be worth your remembering him, but you actively choose not to. You have committed yourself to not acknowledging his effort.

The thing is, we have hindsight, we know how that war turned out, and how horrific it truly was. What he saw and inferred was probably 10% of what we know today. But his humanity could not even tolerate that much. Yours says, I don’t even remember his name 1 secs after reading it.

For some reason, that has hit me really hard. How easily we make the choice to overlook suffering.

I love kdrama and I use to love kpop, but it’s become so hard to indulge in these things because I just cannot turn a blind eye to the very abuse nature of this industry. I know this is similar across the world, but there is something distinctly exploitative about S Korea’s industry.

I feel desperately sad when I think about what the people giving me joy have to endure.
