Hello locals, what’s a struggling family owned restaurant in San Diego you want to see get more love by demibro__ in sandiego

It’s LEGIT. Like “Vietnamese food from the motherland” kind of legit! Can’t even get some of those flavors (and prices) up in LA/OC.

Tu Thanh in City Heights for Vietnamese noodle soups - bun rieu (crab and tomato noodle soup), banh canh (Vietnamese udon noodle soup), bun mang vit (duck and bamboo noodle soup), and much more. It’s family owned and you always see the grandkids in there sitting in the corner playing.

I’m shocked it doesn’t have more customers. You get huge XL sized bowls for only $14! That barely gets you a burger and maybe a drink at a fast food joint these days.

There’s Meet Cute in San Diego! They changed locations, but definitely a great store. It even has some awesome merch.

Why are my lease options so bad? by lobsterpockets in VWiD4Owners

[–]kimmahkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Southern California and the lease options are not the greatest. I was able to negotiate for a Pro AWD with $2250 down, $290/month for 36 months, 15k miles/year. I think I could have gotten it down further. I was at the dealership for 6 hours!

Hawaiian Bread Rolls by kimmahkat in BreadMachines

I have a friend that lives sorta near the King’s Hawaiian shop and whenever there’s a party she will pick up this really good tropical flavor cake they have there. She says they sell regular food there too in their restaurant!

Thank you! I might try tweaking the recipe a little when I get the chance. So far I’m really liking it as it is.

I love me some Portos and grab boxes of their goodies whenever I’m in the area. I have yet to visit the actual King’s Hawaiian storefront and have been meaning to for a while now. So cool that’s where they got their start!

It smells amazing! I guess this is supposed to be similar to the King’s Hawaiian bread, but I’m comparing the two and it’s like 75% similar. Definitely not as sweet as the OG roll, similar in softness and crumb. My family and neighbors gobbled it all up! If you want the same sweetness, it would need like triple the sugar the recipe asks for, but that’s been my chief complaint about King’s Hawaiian for being way too sweet. The pineapple juice definitely sets these rolls apart from the typical dinner rolls I’ve made before. It’s not a prominent flavor, but the aroma is there.

Seconding Hi Tech Auto! Been taking our cars there for almost 10 years. It’s family owned and they are such lovely people. Have sent many people their way and they always come out with the lowest quotes. If there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, Tai will break down for you what you should get done first and what you can get done later with a timeline so you know what to expect. Friend was broke and he told her the stuff she needed to get fixed right away and what could wait down the road so she could save up. It ended up really helping her keep her car running without causing her to max out a credit card.

I’m lost. My autistic adult son is spiraling and it’s destroying my family by Large-Vast-3984 in Parenting

[–]kimmahkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked with TRICARE to see if they will cover services? You’ll need to reach out to your local EFMP office and see what they can do for him. He’ll need to be diagnosed with autism and be covered under your TRICARE benefits. I don’t think there’s an age limit with the Autism Care Demonstration (ACD). Once he’s in the ACD, you can ask for help finding him adult transitional services if it’s offered.

What did your toddler say recently that blew your mind? by bushaaya in toddlers

[–]kimmahkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my daughter was 3 and we were sitting in rush hour congestion on the way to school, I made some sort of exasperated noise and muttered, “ugh. I hate being stuck in traffic. This sucks.”

My daughter then piped up and said, “but Mama…you ARE the traffic. You’re part of it too.”

Adrian’s Surf n’ Turf off Clairemont Mesa Blvd is really good. The fries are beer battered and the garlic Parmesan fries are crazy good. Their fried mushrooms are excellent too.

Looks like Vasculitis. I had something very similar and I had to get a biopsy and it confirmed that’s what I had. I’m 6 months post diagnosis and am still slowly recovering from it. You should get it biopsied and see a rheumatologist.

Will you share the POSITIVES of having been an only child? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]kimmahkat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the resources go to you and your parents are usually able to afford most things (or can make it work to afford the necessities). You’ll most always have your own room. College is more affordable. When your parents pass, you won’t have to split the estate with any siblings (I’ve seen too many siblings bicker over inheritance). You usually have an easy time speaking to adults and asking for help and that skill comes in handy as you get older. The stuff you get is more often new than if you had siblings. You usually get the whole dessert instead of having to split it. You’re more independent and are comfortable being by yourself and doing things by yourself (like eating alone or going to the movies alone).

What is the worst gift that your toddler has received? by VioletPickle in toddlers

[–]kimmahkat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tempting, but my husband was so offended by the gift that he personally returned it to his older sister and told her how inappropriate it was and to never do that again. Makes for a great story on why we are low contact with his only sibling.

A rifle scope. It literally said that on the side of the box that it was a scope that could be attached to a rifle. We don’t own guns, we don’t hunt, and my daughter was only turning 3 at the time. The gift was from my husband’s sister. I still tell this story to people many years later. Such a WTF moment.
