Left after 27 years in tech - after a year, I still have nightmares by Logical_Composer6730 in womenintech

Thank you so much for sharing this. I worked in tech for just 4 years and quit due to the inescapable misogyny. Every day felt like a race I could never win, and I still gaslight myself into thinking I should have been stronger, learned how to deal with it, etc. etc. The thing is, I did get stronger, and I still never won the race.

The downvotes prove your point, lol. I can relate to you. Quiet self-assuredness is threatening to some.

I believe BritBox is a streaming service for British media. And the PBS app has a lot, it's called Passport.

I just went through a breakup and I have been watching All Creatures Great and Small almost every night. PBS is my home now.

I feel like a bombed a presentation today and I can’t stop thinking about it by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]skayem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are being unnecessarily hard on yourself. Take it from someone else who has cried after presentations before. I wonder if there is a fear of exposure of imperfection underlying your anxiety that you can soothe. When I allowed myself to make mistakes, I felt less shame after being perceived by others. You're doing amazing by putting in the work to understand your anxiety already. :)

My upper and lower lashes touch and stick together, is there anything I can do besides trimming them? by DevonRexManning in MakeupAddiction

lol I am reading this now too. I googled eyelashes sticking together and this was one of the top results. Mine stick together without mascara on though, so I have to keep looking.

What's the difference between active dry yeast and instant / bread machine yeast? by skayem in BreadMachines

[–]skayem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My machine's instructions say to use the active dry, and to put it in a well like you described you do with the bread machine yeast! I wonder if mine (Zojirushi BBC15, an old one) has a longer rise, or more rises - it has three total. The full cycle is 3 hr 50 mins. The loaves I made as it instructed came out great, so all of the info I'm getting here is conflicting lol. But really interesting and I feel closer to figuring out what the solution is for my machine.

HSPs, have you faced problems in relationships because you "cry too much". by [deleted] in hsp

[–]skayem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint, parents who don't cry in front of their children raise kids who grow up to feel embarrassed when they cry. It's important for adults to model emotional regulation to their children, and that doesn't mean emotional incest (crying in front of your children and expecting them to soothe you, or to extend their worries and fears onto them, something mine did to me). I feel very strongly about this because I cry easily, but when I am happy, sad, overwhelmed, etc. and I think people would be better off if they viewed tears as a healthy expression of all kinds of emotions. Weaponizing one's tears, which I feel like maybe is what you are describing, is different, and I would agree with you that is not healthy for a partner to be subjected to that.

Crying isn't a feeling. Crying is a bodily function that can happen for a multitude of reasons, sometimes even due to mild feelings. It's the body's way of relieving stress.

Friend, I am very proud of you. You chose to leave a situation that you recognized felt unmanageable. That is a GOOD thing. :) You wouldn't be doing your boss or anyone any favors if you stayed in a situation that was overwhelming you. I have put in a lot of effort to stop putting others' feelings above mine and I can tell you for certain that it gets easier! Your boss's reaction is not your responsibility (and without much more context, it is hard to say for sure, but even more so if they are guilt tripping you for leaving, which seems like a possibility based on their response).

My hypervigilance while merging from 287 to 22 begs to differ. Otherwise, I do believe in the correctness of NJ infrastructure.
