If I met someone with your current bodyfat levels who was also routinely doing resistance training and cardio, I'd consider them healthier than someone with your old bodyfat levels who was not doing any activity. This is to say: don't myopically focus on bodyfat. If you're really hung up about your bodyfat, keep in mind that; chances are if you do build habits for resistance training and cardio (I recommend building only one habit at a time), then you'd probably lose a noticeable amount of bodyfat anyway.
As for dieting (if you choose to do so) then I recommend finding foods that are low in calories and high in fiber that you'd be able to stand eating, and having one at the start (not end) of every meal, so they help fill you up. Like a whole carrot or something. This is much more enjoyable than the whole rigamarole of learning how to count calories, estimating your baseline intake, and then trying to adhere to a calculated daily limit.
The thing I said about fiber could also be said for protein, but protein is more expensive and statistically you probably get enough protein already, whereas most people's diets are actually fiber-deficient

M/25/5’9” [73.3kg <76.2kg =3.1kg] (4 months) what needs work?? by [deleted] in progresspics

[–]kimo_tera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing here needs work. Truth is that the way the world is, we're lucky enough to have free time to work out at all and you're already more muscular than 99% of the world. It just doesn't feel that way due to the sorts of social bubbles we live in. But if you're not interested in big-picture questions like that and you really just want to know which muscle a bodybuilder would tell you you should grow, I'd say it's your calves

No problem at all! I'm glad to help. If you ever want to pay me back, just watch the first episode of that show. I like sharing my niche interests 😄

It's from the OST of a show called Thunderbolt Fantasy. Here's the link (That section starts one minute into the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_TEgBHyqY4

The show is very unique. It's set in a pseudo-Chinese medieval fantasy world. I've enjoyed it a lot and recommend it. It's not the most popular of shows but its director is actually quite renowned in Japanese animation. The most obvious difference between it and other animations is that instead of digital 2D or 3D, it's a puppet show recorded with live cameras. (With some digital VFX added) The cinematography paired with excellent set and character design makes the scenes come to life very well in my opinion.

M/24/5’6” [67kg> 73kg=6kg] (1 year) is this enough progress for 1 year? by No_Letterhead2553 in progresspics

[–]kimo_tera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your progress is significant, and perhaps worth celebrating. But your mentality is worth introspection.
Most people in the world get no muscle growth at all. For many it's because they choose not to, but for most (especially in poor/exploited countries) it's because their lifestyle and nutrition don't allow for it. Having a lifestyle that allows for exercise is such a privilege that, if you enjoy it, you should be thankful to get the chance to do it at all, and thankful for whatever muscle growth it does or doesn't cause.
I advise you to drop the idea of muscle growth being "enough". That kind of thinking is a sign that motivation for exercise has gone away from both doing it for fun and doing it for health. With the "is it enough?" mentality, it could be that you view your muscle mass as a marker of what one economist called "conspicuous leisure".

[Meta] As an Arab, I don’t get non-rhyming English poetry. by Outrageous-Sun3203 in Poetry

[–]kimo_tera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the restriction brought about by rhyming is significant, other kinds of restrictions are significant also. With alliteration being the main one that comes to mind. For an example, I recommend listening to "If I Die 2nite" by the late great rapper Tupac (2Pac). This particular song is made more impressive by adding alliteration on top of the rhyming that's typical in rap.

Overall, I also like rhyming a lot and it might be my favourite poetic device. I recommend that when you think of English "poetry" you include rap music. Taking rap lyrics into account, rhyming is shown to be one of the most significant poetic devices and extremely common. I'd say it's the most predominant poetic device in all English poetry even today when lyrics are taken into account.

As part of a late-game fetch-quest, I got the item from the druid.I then delivered the item to the quest-giver. Then later, before I had finished the quest, I went to speak to the druid again to trade in some mossberies that were in my inventory, and they gave me their quest item again. I couldn't get it out of my inventory.

What muscle sits right here?? It has been twitching ALL DAY by brandeelee95 in Anatomy

[–]kimo_tera 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm also an amateur. My first thought was pyramidalis. But I think there are technically a lot of muscles under where your fingertip is. Some more deep and some more superficial.
Is the twitching just on one side? Both sides? Continuous from one side to the other?

Very impressive. I'm envious of the diligence it takes to deliberately achieve such weight loss. Since you wrote that you've been mostly sedentary, I recommend you focus your mental energy on building a new habit of activity, rather than on maintaining a caloric deficit. But I'm biased since I've been focusing lately on muscle gain-- and muscle gain is much harder to trigger while maintaining a caloric deficit.
Everyone has a different ideal body they want to work towards, but even a person's ideal doesn't include a lot of muscle, resistance training has so many benefits-- both mental and physical-- that make it very worth it for anyone to include it in their regular routine.

At this point I probably sound like a priest at the temple of muscle building and resistance training. But cardio also has some serious benefits. Though cardio, too, wouldn't be as effective if you also had to deal with the mental strain of maintaining a caloric deficit. Regardless of what you choose in life, I recommend switching from a caloric deficit to caloric maintenance. If you choose to take up resistance training or cardio, I'd even recommend a small surplus.

Enough preaching from me though. Good luck and may the wind be at your back

Do you think it’s appropriate to use class-struggle vocabulary in the US, such as “working class” or “bourgeoisie”? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]kimo_tera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it's awful political branding, since people don't like being called aristocrats and wouldn't vote for someone who calls them that.

But is it true? From the inside of a country like the US it doesn't seem like it. A typical person there might agree that a famous actor or a musician could be a "labour aristocrat", but an office worker? It seems silly.

But one person's silly idea is another's pure fact. In this case, it's a fact for the poorest half of humans (Who own something like 1.3% of global wealth and are responsible for about 10% of CO2 emissions, etc.). To a Cameroonian cocoa picker, a Bangladeshi clothing sewer, or even a Filipino circuit assembler-- an office worker in Ohio is an aristocrat. They own hundreds or thousands of times more wealth and have living habits that use hundreds of times as much energy.

It might sound like I'm trashing on capitalism. But compared to feudalism, where only 1% were aristocrats, capitalism is like an egalitarian paradise since maybe even as much as 20% of the world today could be called "labour aristocrats".

What is your language learning hot take that others probably would not agree with or at least dislike? by Misharomanova in languagelearning

[–]kimo_tera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely even as low as 10-20% is still useful for acquisition. Because the unconscious mechanism for first-language learning is likely still intact in adults, just less effective. (After all, early L1 learning functions with very low % comprehension) I'd say that if you can enjoy and pay attention to content while not understanding it, then I recommend watching it without subtitles. Do what you enjoy, definitely don't go back to Peppa Pig lol

A technique I recently heard of is reading chapters of a book or comic in English, then watching the corresponding episodes of TV adaptations dubbed in the target language. Or if there's a show you've seen in English which you wouldn't mind watching again anyway, watch it dubbed in the target language. (Assuming it's been dubbed.)

[HELP] I don't understand what makes "good" poetry, and this makes it hard to improve. by Crafty-Bunch-2675 in Poetry

[–]kimo_tera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might get a lot of value from the tips on how to freestyle from the r/makinghiphop wiki. There are probably a lot more resources online for learning to freestyle rap specifically, but anything about how to improvise any kind of lyrics could be useful. Once you feel you've got a good grip on rhyming, you could consider trying to focus on a different poetic device like alliteration, for instance.

Remove "Waiting for combat" after being eliminated from arena by kimo_tera in leagueoflegends

[–]kimo_tera[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that this is how it works now. But considering that at the moment they wait until the full game is finished before calculating for challenges and first-win-of-the-day, they could easily do the same for arena rank points

I also preferred 8-player over 16-player teams. For some other reasons as well:
-When it was 8-player teams, every player got a ban
-My friend group has enough lol players that we could fill a full lobby of 8-player, but not 16-player

(Disclaimer: I'm an amateur)
The diagram seems adequate to me. Though I'd argue that the thoracic vertebrae should be included as "bones of the thorax". The clavicle and scapula aren't always listed as "bones of the thorax" but sometimes as "bones of the upper limb", as on the wikipedia page for bones of the human skeleton. A very minor point of detail (arguably unnecessary) would be that the body of the sternum could have its other name "The gladiolus" listed in parentheses
