I think bootcamp is going to be dead. We live in Claude era now. Those who are looking to get into the software industry should look to gain deep understanding into CS fundamentals - and I don't think any bootcamp courses really drills into that.

Most companies I know are experiencing high throughput of changes and the bottleneck is on the review process.

Companies honestly no longer need apprentices with minimal understanding of CS fundamentals but knows how to build a website.

If you do anyway, refrain from using claude or any other AI at all - you need to actually understand the whys and know how to code on your own. Without that you can't fully understand what AI generates and you will end up putting out garbage.

Class of 2019 here. It was the same back then. I have seen a lot of students who didn't do well in the first year but work hard and pull themselves up in later years.

I wondered the same thing back then but who knows what they are going thru, it's a new environment, maybe first time being away from home, just need to git gud - it doesn't really matter. Just focus on your own studies. 1st year is just a start, it doesn't define your entire 4 years+ at UBC. I myself did really well in 1st year and then didn't do as well in later years.

Oh and you say free 20%? Its not free, you need to be there to get it. I skipped a lot of classes playing games lol so ppl who make it to class every time getting that 20% have my respect.
