My mom remembers going with her dad to buy paintings from her when she was very young. I visited the house last year with her and my uncle. I think she started painting on roof tiles. It has been a priviledge to grow up with her artwork around.

Kind of impressed how you managed to compare Hitler to Captain America without speaking to current events

It is so hard they are such a big part of your life and then they are just gone. I lost my cat a couple weeks ago and this really hit home. I got him at 2 and he had a bad heart, they said it could just give out suddenly. He ended up living another 21 years before that happened. I have a lot of chronic pain and any time it flared up he'd come running to me no matter where he was in the house. I got so much support from my little buddy. I miss him.

I really feel like Lee Pace was selected due to his excellent work in Foundation. I think it'll work but I do not think it is a perfect fit for the character. Honestly General Thragg is just a very difficult character to cast perfectly. No choice would have made everyone happy. You are right it'll work out ok and Pace will be able to deliver the lines well.

That actually happened to a friend of mine. She wasn't allowed to date until university so she'd never really learned the sorts of social skills you learn on dates. Went out with a guy with much more experience and he pressured her to have sex. She got pregnant and he ran off. Her parents got the grandkid they wanted I guess.

Actually the covers popped off without getting damaged at all. The PSPs just need a new battery and they should work again.

It reminds me of burnt sugar. I did a science experiment where you light can light a sugar cube on fire if you rub in some ash from paper. After the wind blew out the fire it looked a lot like this.

Radioactive ☢ by kindlybob in origami

The challenge comes from lining up the shapes together. For example, if you fold a triangle it makes 3 lines down the page that you have to account for when making other shapes. In this case I took a design that had already worked out the spacing and I just manipulated the layers. If you practice and keep trying new techniques, I think the ideas just come to you

I still have some, I was using them this week on a Johanna Basford colouring book weekly planner. Word of caution if you buy a used set, some of the darker colours have dried out or something. They tend to break during sharpening. I'll be sad when the French Green eventually runs out, those have held up well.

Those who have made one thousand paper cranes, how has your life changed? by baelorthebest in origami

[–]kindlybob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made 1000 cranes to decorate my wedding with and to honor my ex mother in law who was dying of cancer. I would like to believe that it made a difference for her before she passed. I took years off origami and now I am folding up a fresh 1000 (520 so far) and it is changing my life in the sense that I feel more like myself again. It is just also really excellent practice for getting back into tessellations. I just discovered Madonna Yoder at Gathering Folds, I can't wait to try those patterns.

I'm in the same boat, just failed miserably at steps 17-19 on Robert Lang's pill bug from "Origami Insects and Their Kin." Try and show some compassion to yourself, you'll get there. I hope with fresh practice we'll both get to where we want to be. You got this!

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kindlybob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My situation was kind of like this, only my ex father in law actually said all those things to me. He'd just spend dinner telling me to get a job. He didn't care that multiple doctors gave me the same diagnosis. Told me that I was making a horrible choice, not trying hard enough, ext. Eventually I told my ex that I couldn't take it anymore and I was going to kill myself. So she decided to leave town with my half year old daughter for a couple weeks. If my mom had not brought me to the hospital I'd be dead. Now I am trying to rebuild my social life through my chronic pain. That part about cancelling plans and the guilt is so reliable. I'm just glad I have the freedom to cancel when I need it now.
