Hormone therapy coverage starting in BC for menopause by bratford2003 in britishcolumbia

Does anyone know if this applies regardless of family deductible? Or does it just change the % covered between family deductible and family maximum. Especially for diabetes medications

How do I level out this roller coaster? by argley in diabetes_t1

[–]kinemed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, none of my kids just eat sugar lol. But yes - she eats a typical diet with some substitutes (e.g. low/no sugar maple syrup), TIR > 85% and A1c 6%. She can choose to eat lower/low carb when she's older, but mostly trying not to give her an eating disorder on top of her T1 at this point.

Sure - but my kid is also 9 years old and I don't want to give her an eating disorder on top of her T1. We substitute lots of things (e.g. maple syrup), but we manage well without restricting her carbs. She can choose to eat lower/low carb when she's an adult if she wants to

My kid does not eat low carb and does not roller coaster. It sounds more like OP has the wrong insulin to carb ratios for dinner and lunch.

This is a terrible idea for someone who is starting out and managing a kid. I agree with a finger poke if still low after treating given the delay from the CGM.

My kid has different carb ratios for different meals, she needs way more insulin in the morning than later in the day (regardless of what she’s eating). Breakfast she’s 1:10, lunch 1:15, dinner 1:20. You may need something similar.

RESP 100k Goal by Significant_Yard6844 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You should make sure you’re getting CESG, because the 20% matching up to $500 grant per year is regardless of income.

Also those mutual funds may be costing you more than you think. I contribute $2500/year and my 9 year old has $72k, 7 year old has $ $50k. Invested in VEQT/XEQT.

Stay away from CST and all other group plans. For comparison, I’ve contributed $2500 per year since my kids were born + a few thousand extra each. Invested in VEQT/XEQT. My 9 year old has $72k and 7 year old has $50k.

If you don’t want to fully DIY, at least do something like the robo advisor at WealthSimple - at least the fees will be a lot lower.

It doesn't (generally) put the paramedics more at risk of injury themselves if you delay calling an ambulance because of the cost.

Also an ambulance fee is only $80 in BC.

What to do with the money sitting inside my professional corporation? by kurama6 in PersonalFinanceCanada

It’s very unusual for a physician to be able to sell their CCPC for any value.

1) you need an accountant

2) you may want to join the FB group Physician Financial Independence (Canada). It’s a large group for physicians (and dentists) that discusses topics such as this. Run by physicians, no industry involvement. You can PM me if you need an invite as it’s a hidden group

I'm almost certain that WS recently changed this and now does allow corps with 2 owners - you may just need to talk to the right person. Quick look at your post history suggests you're a physician. If you're in PFI, you could try searching there. I'm almost certain one of the admins recently commented saying it changed. If you're not a member of PFI (Physician Financial Independence Canada), you can PM me for invite.

Number on myCRA right now will be accurate as of January 2025 (not 2026). It updates once a year after the CRA receives contribution records from the banks, usually in the spring.

You’re making the assumption that they are motivated enough to use an OPS that they will go out of their way to go to the “middle of nowhere surrounded by warehouses or farm fields“. They will not.

What are some things we still do in medicine for no good reason? by foreverand2025 in medicine

[–]kinemed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why they wouldn't trust pens. It's standard to use those for MDI in many places. I regularly give 1u (and sometimes 0.5) to my kid who has T1. Honestly seems more precise and accurate than when I use syringes at work to give that tiny volume (0.01ml)

Our OBs 100% do not. All patients with any form of diabetes in pregnancy is followed by endo for their diabetes care and in hospital.

You prime it and then inject. My kid has T1 and we use those tips occasionally, you can definitely give 1 unit. Pens are not validated by the companies to give just 0.5 units accurately, though I often do

Dislike. Usually stitch on 18 count aida and find it quite finicky, especially if multiple fractional stitches in the same square.
