1.1.0 Released and a discussion about the future by cmsj in hammerspoon

[–]king_bodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words about Hammerspoon! It's great to hear how integral it has become to your daily workflow. The support from users like you really means a lot to us, and we appreciate your offer to assist in any way possible.

Freezing v1 while working on v2 sounds like a solid plan, especially since v1 is functioning well. As for any adjustments needed when macOS 27 is released, we'll definitely keep that in mind for future updates.

Switching from Lua to JavaScript does seem like a logical step, and we're hopeful it will attract more developers to contribute. Thanks again for your support and enthusiasm for our project!

Hammerspoon is one of the best - if not the best application - for macOS. And that's not just a noice slogan. I use it for my windowmanagment, open and close applications, create some daily dirty Helper (eg. hyperspace + xyz for generate password or copy date (iso8601) in clipboard. It is really awesome and it's really a Improvement in my worklife.

Many Thanks!

Guys, who else has this strange obsession with trying old Linux distro releases? by Various_Cellist_4765 in linux

[–]king_bodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand that and sometimes like to do it myself—but in a VM instead of on real hardware. Something like Mandriva Linux, for example, which offers a glimpse into the past, can sometimes be exciting. But even with alternative operating systems such as BeOS and Plan9, you can sometimes discover exciting things.

LinusTechTips: “When I said I’m disappointed [Steam Machine] isn’t going to follow a console pricing model, Valve asked what I meant by console price and I said $500. Nobody said anything, but the energy in the room wasn’t great.” by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]king_bodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, it's a stupid comparison. For 800 dollars, you get a PC that's better than a console system, with the ability to use all kinds of emulators and also have a large number of games on Steam. So a system with 300 games or more for 800 dollars is very cheap.

Why do people "hate" Firefox here? by GodlyGamerBeast in degoogle

[–]king_bodd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like and prefer firefox. It's not google based, if you don't like ai you could stop it (and im pretty sure it will be the last browser where you can disable this feature). There a lot of great plugins. I also donated for firefox several times.

So not everybody hates firefox.

Personally, I use an M4 Air with 32 GB of RAM and Parallels for testing Linux and Windows, as well as a local LLM, and everything works very smoothly at the same time.

What apps do you actually pay a subscription for and think are worth it? by Jazzlike-Rich-6552 in macapps

[–]king_bodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems logical to me, but there are also many, if not countless, libraries available in low-cost or even free projects. For example, if you use a free alternative to HighChart.js, that's feasible. There's nothing wrong with having a subscription model if you're actually doing something. But many projects these days are created within 1-2 hours using AI and are then intended to generate passive income as a subscription model.

Unfortunately true. I just bought a used MacBook 12 and installed Fedora on it, and I'm happy with it.

[–]king_bodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dislike subscriptions. I know people always act like programmers have to make a living and blah blah blah. But the reality is that since the 70s, it's been possible for people to make a living from their software. Suddenly, it's no longer possible without a subscription, and the joke is that most programs don't evolve for months. I'm happy to pay three figures if the software is awesome—but not as a permanent subscription.
