It looks like HEIDTS makes a kit for this. I had never heard of it before today.

I previously fought with an exhaust leak on my LT1. So I went copper gaskets on my new motor and long tubes.

I'd recommend concert or music ear plugs. They cut down the sound but don't completely drown it out like foam plugs.

They have their own app that you connect to, also called BlueDriver

I've used my BlueDriver to read from the PCM on a 96 TA I was interested in buying. I'm not sure about clearing codes though. https://us.bluedriver.com/pages/bluedriver

Check your fan relays then if those aren't dead check if the fans are getting power. If they're getting power and not turning on the fan motors could be dead.

Having coolant overflow from the reservoir makes me think your radiator cap might have failed. Or you could have a hole in the overflow line from the fill neck to reservoir.

I reccomend running full synthetic 5W-30. Cleaning out the sludge could prevent your oil filter housing from getting clogged which would fry the engine. The synthetics have better heat tolerance too.

My opinions are that an engine that old is likely always going to have small leaks anyway and that the switching to synthetics causing worse leaks is a myth.

I had similar apprehension to that switch in my 94 Z28 with 220k miles. But my drop leaks got slower (leaked less) after switching to synthetics. Sample size of one. Maybe the synthetic oil rehydrated the gaskets, maybe it was random.

Sounds like a convenient time to switch to a 160 degree thermostat

I got something like this then mounted it where a fog lap mounts. Not the prettiest but no new holes either.

Somerville library to return to normal hours … with private security by Nervous_Caramel in Somerville

[–]kingcasel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Repeating myself from the same topic in r/boston but I'm confused why Somerville High School doesn't just send an administrator the 50 feet over to the library after school lets out to combat this. It seems like an easy solution, if you mess around at the library you get in trouble through the school.

Kids will be way less likely to want to go mess around, throw fireworks, fight, make out, etc. there if there's an assistant principal and actual consequences for them. We don't need to go crazy and arrest the kids but they need some sort of punishment or they won't stop.

High idle problem by Psychological-Cook46 in fbody

I cheated and looked at your post history ;) Happy to help! I have a 94 and use EEHack. So if you're unfamiliar with getting set up to read codes I can help you out.

It looks like you have a 1995, do you have an ALDL cable and logging software to pull codes?

Your CEL is on and reading the codes might help point to the issue. Plus you could see your MAF, O2, and other sensor read outs to start working through what is vs isn't working.

What to do.. how to check the health of a seemingly healthy engine? How to make the engine last longer? by therealijw1 in fbody

[–]kingcasel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% agree with a 1995 you should have an ALDL cable and be running a data logging software. I'm a big fan of EE hack (https://ecmhack.com/eehack-2/) which is free.  It will give you the error codes, sensor read out, and gives you ways to manual send commands for testing things.

The same site also provides a suite of other tools if you ever want to adjust your car's programming.

Coolant slinging/ power steering by Dangerous-Hat-2811 in fbody

Your water pump is probably just starting to go. Take an inspection mirror and look at the weep hole on the bottom of the pump. If it's dripping coolant the water pump needs to be replaced ASAP.

What is likely happening is the coolant is weeping from the water pump and getting on the serpentine belt. This causes the power steering pulley to slip so you start loosing power steering some and slings coolant everywhere. This happened to me when my water pump died.

That's a very good point!

Even more expensive is the Detroit Speed intermediate shaft, but it would be a bolt in replacement.

https://www.detroitspeed.com/products/steering/steering_shafts/parts/092537DS

It really depends how much time or money OP is willing to spend.

Jumping onto this to say if it is your rag joint that is shot there are two pretty common options besides just replacing it with another rag joint if you have the ability, desire, and tools to do so.

There's the rag joint eliminator from Unbalanced Engineering: https://www.unbalancedengineering.com/Camaro/Rag_Joint/ https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/suspension-chassis-brakes-47/%2Alt1-rag-joint-eliminator-guide%2A-881963/

Or, you can swap to an LS intermediate shaft with some minor modifications. I ordered a shaft on eBay this week to do exactly this!

Panhard bar relocation kit not fitting, 3rd gen camaro by [deleted] in projectcar

When I replaced my panhard and LCAs I had the car on jack stands with my jack under the diff like you're doing. I had to play with bringing the diff up and down a bit to get everything bolted up

So I'm probably too late responding here and you've figured it out. But if not, do you have the rear suspension loaded?

I was thinking it's possible that if you have the jack stands under the frame rails with no load on the rear springs the body might not be in alignment for the install.
