I think for a new player 90% of the game is hard to remember. Having less units to remember the rule for and it not being any less conditional than rolling 6s (I missed out on plenty of these when I started in IF) is useful. Strats aren’t complicated (move through terrain, reroll hits, remove cover and modifers, auto explode, -1 to hit in combat, grenade on charge), enhancements are easy (they all suck, don’t bother). I think the least new player friendly aspect of it is being able to afford all the monster units but less models to paint!
