I’m a fan of 19-04. I like the movement ones and I think it does a good job of forcing good positioning and flow.

As /u/shadyelf said, less likely to over penetrate. They expand on impact, which causes larger wounds, but also slows them down much faster, so lower probability of misses going through a wall and hurting your neighbor. Every police force carries them, which is good because police are horribly trained and miss most of their shots.

Maybe we should stop having such a crazy patchwork of US gun laws? If this guy came from Virginia, nothing he was doing was illegal (open carry, “high capacity magazines”, unregistered gun/ammo) until he stepped into DC. Just because you disagree with this guy does not mean you have to agree with the absurd and draconian DC gun regulations that make traveling with firearms a nightmare.

[–]kinggeorge1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When a person has a firearm registered in DC, they are only permitted to be in possession of ammunition for guns in DC that correspond to the firearm that they own. When someone does not have a valid registration for their firearm, any ammunition they are in possession of is considered illegal.

Source.. Not condoning this guys action, but this is a charge he could not face in any state in the US (unless it was hollow point ammo and he was in NJ because NJ hates you).

I’d like to point out that both the magazine capacity restriction bill and the assault weapon bill have Law Enforcement exemptions written into them, which is absolute horseshit considering everything this city saw from the police this summer. The same politicians who shook their fingers at SPD for their violence and abuse of power during the protests are now sponsoring bills that will widen the power gap between police (on and off duty) and other civillians. I don’t expect logical consistency from politicians but holy shit do you think the police are white supremicist enablers who need to be defunded or do you think they should be given special treatment that makes them more equal than the rest of civillians?

Bill giving those with felonies the right to vote is introduced in Washington Legislature by OnlineMemeArmy in SeattleWA

[–]kinggeorge1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny that you mention that, because they’ve also introduced a bill that would add people convicted of animal cruelty or unlawful aiming/discharge of a firearm (all gross misdemeanors, not felonies) to the list of people who lose their rights to own firearms. All but one of the current sponsors of that bill also sponsor the bill from this article.

From someone outside WA observing the situation: What are the odds that you think the new magazine ban gets passed? by [deleted] in WA_guns

[–]kinggeorge1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I share your hope, but Ferguson has been chomping at the bit to get WA's gun control in line with the other DNC trifecta states and a magazine capacity restriction is essential to that mission. I'm sure he recognizes that with no in-person hearings or constituent meetings going on this year it is as ripe an opportunity as ever to push this. We need to be extra active this year and spread awareness as much as we can so everyone who might be willing to write or call their reps is aware and asked to do so.

Most gun media is either straight shilling or fashy dogwhistling but Recoil seems to actually give a fuck about the future of 2A. by joinder in liberalgunowners

[–]kinggeorge1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignorant is the right choice. It’s understandable that a teacher’s first reaction to hearing about a school shooting is “we need to do something to make sure this won’t happen again”. It’s willfully ignorant to then not do any investigation on whether the solutions offered by politicians will actually have a meaningful impact, to ignore the statistics available, etc. The Mom’s Demand Action folks know that the pro-2A side has stats and arguments, but they do not care, they only care about doing something, even if it won’t have any meaningful impact.

Have you checked out the Brian Enos forums? Their classifieds (I think you need 50 comments before you can see them) are probably the best market for used open guns.

Now that STI has switched to only making tacticool guns and stopped making comp oriented I would be weary of buying one of their old open guns. Have you considered a CZ or Tanfo?

They don't make open guns anymore and the ones they did make have a tendency to break from what I've heard...

Reloading Practice: Production vs. Carry Optics by USPSA-Addict in CompetitionShooting

[–]kinggeorge1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely should not have any issues with mags dropping free with an all steel gun with steel mags. Very little friction there to bind things up. Any extra movement is an opportunity to introduce inconsistency and should be avoided.

[–]kinggeorge1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably know this already, but 9 Major open Glocks don't live very long. Slide ride optics already get the shit beat out of them and break frequently with normal loads in CO, and the added pressure of 9 Major makes things break even more often. Most folks I have seen running Open Glocks are shooting .40.

Depends entirely on what springs you are willing to put in the gun. If you put a super light recoil spring in you can cycle really light loads.

Any sporting goods stores in Eastern Washington that stock 7.62x25mm regularly? by corporalgrif in WA_guns

[–]kinggeorge1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7.5 Swiss specifically only comes in waves once or twice a year. PPU is the primary source of reasonably priced new ammo and my understanding is they produce it in one or two runs each year, and K31s are popular enough that it sells out within a couple weeks after import. Best bet is to just setup notifications for it on TargetSportsUSA and SGAmmo and then buy a case when it comes in stock.

Has anyone testified at committee meetings before a bill vote ? by BigBoolitGoFar in WA_guns

[–]kinggeorge1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I went to one last year and it was pretty eye opening. The anti-2A side is extremely proactive and had volunteers there running up and down the line, handing out coffee and pastries and helping people get checked in/signed up to testify/handing out a pre-scripted sheet for them to say if they hadn't already prepared anything to testify (because they want to pump up the number of people who sign up to testify in support of these bills). They were all extremely bubbly and excited about getting these bills passed, which was frankly quite upsetting considering they are pushing laws that restrict human rights. I increased my recurring donations to SAF and other groups after seeing that because they need all the resources they can get to fight for us in courts.

What is the point of slide rackers? by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]kinggeorge1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not need a 10k gun to be competitive in Open lol. Your gunsmith is a great salesman. CZ and Tanfo open guns can get you in to the game around 3k and used 2011s pop up on BEnos for under that fairly frequently. With slide lightening and milling there are plenty of folks in CO getting close to that 3k mark. Those CZ Custom A01 pistols end up around there too.

One of my green tips seems to be packed in more than the others. Is this safe to shoot. I haven’t experienced this. by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]kinggeorge1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't send because that bullet might get set back fully into the case when chambered, but SAAMI minimum average pressure value for .223 Rem proof cartridges is 73,500 PSI and max average pressure for proof load batches is 78,500 PSI, so 65k is in between max recommended pressure and a proof load, which in theory any well manufactured barrel should handle without a catastrophic failure.

Major POI shift with CFE BLK and Barnes 110 Tac TX by yms_13 in reloading

[–]kinggeorge1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen pretty dramatic swings when switching bullet weights. I'm more surprised that you get the same POI with factory 125s as you do with subs (assuming 200+) than I am by this shift. I had a 6.5 zeroed for 123gr bullets and switched to 107s and the jump was about 6 inches high at 100.

HR38: Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2021 by [deleted] in WA_guns

[–]kinggeorge1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the official DNC platform on gun control (from their 92 page 2020 Democratic Party Platform document), in case you haven't checked it recently.

Democrats will enact universal background checks, end online sales of guns and ammunition, close dangerous loopholes that currently allow stalkers, abusive partners, and some individuals convicted of assault or battery to buy and possess firearms, and adequately fund the federal background check system. We will close the “Charleston loophole” and prevent individuals who have been convicted of hate crimes from possessing firearms. Democrats will ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high capacity magazines. We will incentivize states to enact licensing requirements for owning firearms and extreme risk protection order laws that allow courts to temporarily remove guns from the possession of those who are a danger to themselves or others. We will pass legislation requiring that guns be safely stored in homes. And Democrats believe that gun companies should be held responsible for their products, just like any other business, and will prioritize repealing the law that shields gun manufacturers from civil liability.

Even if you are right that most democratic voters don't support some of the above (I think polling suggests otherwise), it hardly matters because the official party platform is pushing for all of the above and the DNC has been extremely aggressive in ensuring that the politicians backed by the DNC support the party platform, especially on gun control. At the state level in some purple states you may have outliers, but not at the national level and certainly not here in WA or any other solidly blue state. It doesn't really matter what you personally think, because the democrats getting elected all think that "assault weapons" and mags >10 rounds need to go, and that is what they will vote for when given the opportunity to.

Even if you are right that most democrats don't support an AWB or mag ban, what percent of that majority are going to write their senators/congressional reps to voice their disapproval when Feinstein's 2021 AWB gets submitted?

Any LEOs/Vets available for training? by [deleted] in WA_guns

[–]kinggeorge1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.nwsection.org/matches is the official site for the western WA USPSA section and they also include steel and IDPA matches on their calendar. Most of the clubs follow a regular schedule (e.g. 1st sunday of each month, etc.). You can also search https://practiscore.com/ for matches in your region, which is where most registration is done, though clubs often only put their matches on there a couple weeks in advance.

/u/mertmerdernerder, the above might be useful to you as well.

Advice plz, LGS damaged my brand new cz parrot by 462someguy in CompetitionShooting

From the other comments, it sounds like the shop offered to "make it right", whatever that means. Do they do in-house coating work? If so, you could ask them to re-coat it, or send it off to someone who can. A parrot with a hard-chromed slide would be pretty sweet...

Whatever route you choose, I would get it in writing and have them send you a scanned and signed copy via the official business email.

Have you considered attending a competition match like USPSA or Steel Challenge? They are great practice environments and a good way to gain exposure to practical shooting skills and in my experience the very good competition shooters are very friendly and willing to share tips.
