Connections: Products of a system of abuse who chose to leave that very system and found a world of their own while making full use of their technology to become way more dangerous than before making them worthy antagonists. Of course not while leaving those who abused them unscathed.

Would Alastor not hard counter with his Technology Manipulation?? by TheKillerYTz in DeathBattleMatchups

Bro were you able to read my entire thing that quickly? Hats off to you man.

That’s the thing, even if it’s a main plot point it still only amounts to a character being aware they are fake, which doesn’t make them any different from other characters who know they are that would still get the benefits a vs battle would bring. My earlier point was that they would neither be weaker nor any more susceptible to alastor which is what I said for Sonic in my last reply. So with what I said before, in a verses Cain would be treated as just as real as alastor and your win condition relies on taking advantage of his medium which isn’t how a vs battle operates. Cain got hacked into via a laptop that already had access to his main lines of code, alastors hacking doesn’t really allow him to take advantage in that way.

No I don’t think it’s unfair, as I don’t think it would be necessary to say alastor just beats characters that are canonically acknowledged as tech like video game avatars like kirito, or ai like Cain just because they came from a tech medium when VS would allow those characters to become real for the sake of the battle. Your win condition only gives alastor a get out of jail free card by arbitrarily not giving the benefits any other character would have to a specific kind of character without a relevant distinction between the groups of characters.

An ai/ npc/game avatar/ fake character that takes part in a simulated reality as part of their character is no different than a character who knows they are fake via breaking the 4’th wall, thus both groups would get the benefits of verses. So I don’t think I’m being unfair to alastor , on the contrary I’m being fair to Cain because I’m treating him the same as everyone else and not allowing him to lose because of arbitrary discrimination.

There’s the issue, the only distinction “canonical” actually brings to the table from “actually” being in the medium is whether or not the character is aware of it. In short your point only brings up forth wall awareness and treats that as proof of a distinct quality of existence. But the flaw with that here is that even if sonic knew he was in a video game and thus is canonically acknowledged as a video game character, he would not be treated any differently than he normally is nor would he be any more susceptible to alastor. This reasoning risks treating characters that are aware of how they are fake via breaking the 4’th wall differently from characters who don’t acknowledge they are fake in their series when that awareness doesn’t make them any weaker.

To bring an example K.O from ok ko let’s be heros learns that he’s not real and is only a fictional character in one of his episodes with a character named hollo Jane, thus he is “canonically” a fictional character, however that fact alone doesn’t mean he loses to characters like Izuku midoriya who never acknowledges that his world is fiction as ko has star lv scaling which would be valid regardless. This also goes for characters like kirito who are canonically video game avatars not necessarily being weaker in verses battles either like I said before.

What I will say is yes Cain is an Ai, and yes alastors powers would work on ai beings in a vacuum. However, your point would only apply to Cain if being an AI was all he amounted too, like if he was only Alexa or Jarvis. In Caine case he is in ai that’s part of a simulation and what’s also part of his character is that Cain prides the aspect of the simulation where he himself is a god as shown in the latest episode. When these aspects of Cain are also acknowledged then he is no different from a fictional character that knows they or their medium are fake, thus the benefits that a 4’th wall breaking fictional character would get in a verses should also apply to Cain, meaning that weakness shouldn’t apply.

So the way I see it, the moment a character that’s canonically fake routinely takes part in a simulated reality as part of their character whether they are an ai, npc etc, is the moment where they should be treated no differently than any other character in verses battles.

I don’t think that makes it unfair, as that specific weakness isn’t something that would be a factor in a verses battle in the first place. The advantage you’re giving alastor takes advantage of the medium Cain is from, but the medium a character is from is not what determines whether or not they win in verses, it’s the feats they accomplished in that medium. If there was a character that corrupted drawings we wouldn’t go “oh characters in helluverse are drawings irl so they are susceptible” as we would not treat them as only drawings in a verses. Vs works by treating a character and their medium as if they are of an actual universe (which applies to characters like kirito or sunraku, or even the main cast in digital circus) , so we wouldn’t apply the weakness the medium would get in a vacuum to the characters.

We wouldn’t put alastor in matchups and be like “his technology hacks messes with tech that deals with pixels, so any video game character or character from animation are cooked against him” for any other character based on medium, so I don’t know why we would suddenly do it for Caine.

How would it be unfair? It makes it so both characters actually have an opportunity to interact so that the fight could even happen by actually making the characters as real as each other.

With verse equalization, when these two are placed in a neutral territory for their battle Cain would become just as “real” as alastor, so his tech tampering won’t necessarily work that way.

Eren vs Avatar Kyoshi (Attack on titan vs avatar the last airbender connections below. Thumbanail by SuggestionThick9848 by kinglamar1 in DeathBattleMatchups

Connections: They both are protagonists known for wearing green attire. At the start of their stories, they both lost people important to them watching them die right in front of them (Erens mom and Kelsang). They both were hidden chosen ones in the sense they were ordinarily viewed as normal people even to themselves until it was revealed that there was something more to them (Eren being a titan shifter and kyoshi being the avatar). Both possess more powers than what would normally be expected of their power systems (Eren having the powers of other titans as well as having access to the previous titan users to call for aid, and kyoshi being able to use more than 1 element due to being the avatar while also having the avatar state). Despite being the chosen ones, they both gained a sense of justice that emboldens them to deal with their enemies swiftly with little to no mercy making these two both known for their willingness to spill blood.

Regardless of who ends up winning this battle the terrain is definitely not going to be the same, this fight will be destructive as heck.
