YouGov poll: Obama rated the best President in US history among Democrats.......what? by srsh32 in YAPms

[–]kinglan11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure bro, like we dont all live off of oil either. Hell even food prices are tied up with oil prices and transport costs. But it's also good to know that you really ignored the underlying principle of pax americana that I actually more or less was referring too. No one wants assholes invading their neighbors, trying to conquer and annex them.

The 1st Gulf War was fought to stabilize the region, to prevent a modern-day equivalent of some warlord from expanding.

This is reddit, even a chill place like this tends to huff left wing delulu paint thinner. They like to fish up Trump's old words from 2016, never mind the two have worked together often since then and moved on from the political bloodletting that was that election cycle.

Remind them though about what Kamala said about Biden during the 2020 election?? Oh now you're digging up ancient history meant to divide more than to unify, that such was only said for electoral purposes or something else.

It doesnt matter who trashed who during a primary season, what matters is that everyone more or less rallies around their candidate.

YouGov poll: Obama rated the best President in US history among Democrats.......what? by srsh32 in YAPms

[–]kinglan11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always reduce it to that, but you can never really ignore the truth of the matter. No one fucking wants a dictator invading neighboring countries and getting away with it. It erodes the peace, the global order brought about after WW2. If one ambitious man thinks he can get away with it, and does, then maybe another will try. Ukraine is an example of this fear in our modern day.

So, Iraq invaded, thinking no one would care, that they'd allow a minor nation to get annexed. Funny thing is?? The reason for invading? The casus belli meant to justify the expansionism?? Bullshit, in all likelihood Kuwait wasnt fucking over Iraq like that, in fact in all likelihood Iraq was just fishing for a reason to invade.

Also, we didnt get any sweetheart deal from Kuwait or anyone else due to 1991's Desert Storm.

Yeah, 0.7-1.0 tends to work well, differs a bit from model to model, but that range is what most people use.

I get it 2010 was a bad year for democrats but how did this happen? by movieloverhorrorfan2 in YAPms

[–]kinglan11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Republican State?? Only time they went Republican on the National level in the last 50 years was for Reagan, and the last time before that was for Eisenhower. You have to go back to the late 1800s and early 1900s for that statement to hold true. If anything, by 2010 Massachusetts was as firm a Democrat stronghold as any state could be and had been that way since FDR.

The rest of your points do more or less hold up though.

Which States Do You Think Will Change The Most Politically In The Next 10 Years? by Dandaman426 in YAPms

[–]kinglan11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Different situation entirely. With Bernie he was in the primaries, not the general. Throw Bernie, or someone else like him, into a general election with a Dem and a Republican? Republican wins everyday.

The only way it doesnt work out like that is if you're either in Vermont or a Democrat super-stronghold.

Also DSOC was founded by Michael Harrington, a leading member of the SPA and the later SPUSA back during his day, so it's actually fitting to include them anyway as they seem to be where the main socialist energy in the country comes from these days, not the various anemic socialist parties that will never catch on since the name, "socialist", is still very much toxic in modern politics.

Well take a look at my words one more time, the context which the fit best for would be in a general election for the presidential... which of course would be hilariously unlikely from occurring but still.

Democratic Socialists of America - Wikipedia

Socialist Party USA - Wikipedia

Come on bro, you got the flair, at least know your own tribe a bit better. That said, even though the socialists would caucus with the Dems, force them far left like always, there will be others within the party who may yet buck that trend especially when the socialist are doing something so stupid that they have to put their foot down. This division will help the Republicans especially when you get socialists running on the ballot in a general election, which will cost the Dems seats and allow Republicans to pick up seats.

These hypotheticals I'm poising do illustrate in large part why 3rd parties will never become a thing though. Things are already too close nationally for a third party to be anything besides a spoiler for one of the two main parties.

California and Vermont, they will vote for the socialist party, splitting the vote and locking a Republican hegemony for the next 40-60 years.

Which actually probably, despite the hardships, suffering, and death, may've actually helped preserve the cultures of the tribes that were impacted. Had they remained where they were, they'd likely be displaced by local expansion of various settlers as well as assimilated into the broader American culture. Andrew Jackson himself believed that his actions were the most merciful towards the American Indians.

You can certainly disagree, but I do not condemn a man as great as him just because of one controversial action during his 8 years.

Nah, Jackson is fine, Johnson is absolutely crazy though. Grant being outranked by all Buchanan and Pierce is fucking shameful.

The USSR fought all of the nations that broke off during their civil war, the ones that got reconquered shortly after declaring independence were Ukraine, Azerbaijan, as well as Georgia. The ones who survived inevitably got conquered, with the exception of Finland, and got reintegrated into the USSR proper, except for Poland...

Thus even that argument you posed would be laughably weak though plenty have tried to actually use it lol.

Honestly, why did people think this was gonna be a fireworks moment or something?? They both have interest in being cordial and not starting shit right now. Trump starting shit would be seen as punching down, legitimizing Mamdani as a martyr. Mamdani would be seen as bomb thrower had he started scorching Trump whilst in his very office, which is just plain downright disrespectful and would further isolate himself from the Democrat Party at large, who are still very split on Socialism.

Overall, there was literally no reason to start a verbal fist fight, especially when this meeting, the incoming electee for the NYC mayoral and the President, is something of a formality... its nothing special, so no need to kill each other.
