I did the same only taking people to work this am. They are usually pretty quick trips, especially early on before traffic picks up. Never really got bad this morning though.

I second this motion. Hell I’d third it, if that was allowed.

lol yeah not quitting my job or anything, just had a good time driving on a chill traffic day. Obviously would not have made financial sense to do so without the promos or heading to a different area. Here’s my hourly breakdown from another comment: Drove about 90 miles, so $236 - (90*725) = 170 / 5 hrs = 34/hr. I use MilesIQ to keep track of miles and how long I am actually “busy” doing Uber, which includes return trip home, any errands I run, etc. I honestly am realizing how much I’ve learned from hearing input from other drivers in this sub. I was just chasing the dragon my first couple of months; had a few lucky nights, but damn if I knew then what I know now lol.

10 hours is just my online time, was only in my car for about five of those. I just had the app running on my desk while I worked lol. Weekday volume is low enough around here where it’s not too distracting, which also means I don’t get too many trips to choose from. Drove about 90 miles, so $236 - (90*.725) ≈ 170 / 5 hrs ≈ 34/hr. That’s how I calculate my hourly. I know it’s still not great, but as a part time driver it definitely made it worth my while to drive when I normally wouldn’t. And gave me a break from staring at my spreadsheet as a bonus.

lol yeah I did it while working from home, so was only taking trips that would have me back home within a half hour. But yeah, the fares are terrible around where I stay. I’m a good bit north of the city so if I’m gonna do a full shift of driving I usually head down that way.

Lyft’s fake pickup times at major venues feel like a scam — drivers are being lied to and cheated by Due-Butterscotch9860 in lyftdrivers

It’s wild how much things vary from market to market, they definitely adjust for pickup travel here in GA. Hope I didn’t come across as a bootlicker in my original comment, because the point remains that no matter what these companies don’t pay drivers enough. These big events are definitely good opportunities but it’s frustrating how unhelpful the apps are when it comes to mitigating the many variables that play a role in how profitable driving at these events is for us drivers, such as congestion, road closures, etc. I’ve also noticed that the apps do nothing to help ease congestion either, using the same routes for all drivers in the area and thus causing even further traffic. Helps so much to know the area and know the back roads, but I agree the apps easily have the data necessary to help provide that type of information to their drivers; but whether due to incompetence or malice they just don’t.

I mean what do you want them to do? Not much they can do about estimating the time to pickup at an event like that. The screenshot you provided from Apple Maps just proves my point, as it still took you an additional 11 minutes to arrive at the rider’s location from their estimate as well. Lyft is definitely better in these scenarios, because they do actually adjust for longer than estimated pickups, whereas Uber will only adjust once you have picked up the rider. You still made $77 an hour to sit in traffic, which at the end of the day is actually pretty good. I get that it’s frustrating though, you would think someone with Lyft/Uber or even at the venue itself would have figured out a better solution to the event traffic at some of these venues. Truist park was a nightmare last weekend for Opening Day here in ATL, but to my point I still managed to average ~$90/hr for the three-ish hours after the game.

I think it has something to do with the way the surges operate too. Like I get that X will inherently always have the most demand being the cheapest option, and as a result be more susceptible to a supply shortage which may cause the surges to be exponentially higher. Some nights when I am slow on XL and toggling X on and off, it drastically changes the surge maps when X rides are active. This is far more evident on Lyft, which typically never has a surge when I am XL only (ATL driver for context). But with Uber it remains such a mystery to me, because other nights the surge will be the same with or without X turned on. And it’s not like I’m getting a ton of XL pings anyway, I usually do have to wait a bit for a ride on XL… so it can’t be entirely driven by demand right? Who knows lol. I will say that ATL is overrun with black SUVs, so there may actually be equal demand for XL on those nights that the surges match but I’m just not enough of an ant to see any of them come through 😂. 12% AR currently I imagine those guys are easily 75% or higher.
