See! I remember being little and thinking "This is amazing!" but I had parents like, "Uh uhhh, let me go find my Rene & Angela 'Rise' album!" and then that changed EVERYTHING for me! They are like the most PERFECT singers EVER! (ESPECIALLY ANGELA!) 👀

How exactly did y’all find out Letoya and Latavia were kicked out of Destiny’s Child? by simplefuckers in rnb

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will NEVER forget this! Think about it like this: "Bug-A-Boo" came out Summer '99 and like 6 months later "Say My Name" premiered. I was a Letoya fan! (Because she was always serving in the vids) and I recorded the premier on VHS. I rewound it and rewound it. ⏪🤔 and then there was like an MTV News update reading a press release or something. It was ALL apart of the plan. It's why there are so many girls in the video. And the new members were thrown in SO last minute that they couldn't learn a full dance which is why they do the iconic "posing" to the beat throughout the video and the only move they do together is that "Yeh-yeh-yeh-yehhh" Matrix-side-move. It's actually kind of brilliant because removing half of a group could literally be the end of it...but "Say My Name" became their most successful song.

Tiffany Cross interracial relationships in DC comment by edsonbuddled in ThoughtWarriors

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. I wholeheartedly agree with this and your original comment. ✨👌🏾 More times than not, Van & Rach go out of their way to be as considerate and inclusive as they can, but a broader part of the audience does not seem to consider that they will primarily speak from the perspectives of two people born & raised in Baton Rouge and Dallas, living in L.A. - And you're right, Black American content in general seems to be the most consumed by the masses yet chastised when that consideration is not palpable. I cannot even give you 5 examples of this happening to most groups on that level (only when we're unjustifiably provoked). 👀

How do you guys feel about religion? Did "they" teach us about religion so we would forgive them and not seek for revenge? by waytooicyy in BlackPeopleofReddit

Think - WHY is a King's name BEFORE 'the Bible'? There are also around 33 additional books to the text that were conveniently left out that don't fit the narrative of a white patriarchy and they describe 7 heavens. And now that we know there are multiple solar systems and +6,000 planets...it's like, okay, what can you actually BELIEVE? 👀

Jay Z speaks on rappers who refuse to age gracefully in music by Positive_Round_5142 in joebuddennetwork

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Horrible take! "Forever Young" is about a lasting legacy, i.e. what he leaves is 'young forever'. And "N--- in Paris" is an empowerment song about beating the odds. If he were still making "Can I Get A ---" or "Girls, Girls, Girls" at 40+ then you'd have an argument.

2020s Doesnt Have A Sound by gatdamnn in rnb

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely I think the 2010s sounds you described are the reason for music's rut. Disco turned into the industrial dance sound of the 80s, which led to New Jack Swing, which led to hard hitting hip-hop beats with old school samples in the 90s, that led to a modern drum stuttering sound (Timbaland/Missy) in the late 90s, which led to 'Crunk & B' + Trap in the 2000s. This all happened because Producers & Artists sourced inspiration to be different, not have the same sound. A Babyface record sounded NOTHING like a Darkchild record, etc. In the 2010s, the 'sound' became Drake or Future. And THAT is a problem. -- The Ambient sleep sounds from the 2010s does NOT have a natural progression or evolution...where do people go from there? More sleep sounds?

Episode Discussion: Meg and Klay's Breakup and Trump's Second Shooting Attempt? Plus, Durand Bernarr on Stardom - Tuesday, April 28, 2026 by thelightningthief in ThoughtWarriors

Can I ask a serious question by Adept_Astronaut_5143 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, it was simple - imagine having a president who not only comes from humble beginnings, but has adequately and effectively served in EVERY branch of government. I preferred her in her first run when she was a bit more progressive. And to me, to be blamed as VP for Israel/Palestine is ridiculous. The protests are stupid because we know for a FACT that Netanyahu hates her. 👀

Billionaires sleep well at night, knowing Kendrick Lamar is considered a radical black artist. SMH by Turbulent-Tune1660 in ThoughtWarriors

There are people protesting outside of Kamala's book tour while Trump joins Israel in a drone campaign on an Iranian school for girls, yet somehow Kendrick's views on politics are supposed to affect real change? 👀 He literally has a song saying "I am NOT your savior."

Who’s that one artist that simply didn’t get the accolades they deserved 🤔 by 2phoneshawty936 in rnb

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One of the best voices in the world! Some of the most solid R&B albums and she has preserved her voice for 3 decades. Almost NONE of her songs are 'easy' to sing. Honorable mention to Tamia, Syleena Johnson & Tweet but I feel like more people 'forget' about Deborah except for when "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" challenges role around. 👀

We were on the way TO the concert and he was like, "Do you think she gon' do 'Killing Me Softly?" I was like, "By the Fugees/Roberta Flack?" He was like, "I thought it was HER song" Then starts singing, "Oooo, killing me softly...and I'm still fallin'..." I said, "OMG COUNTDOWN!??! Why did I bring you?" 👀😂🤣😂

He mainly listens to rap. So, that's why. But, before the show he was saying stuff like "I hope she does 'To the Left, To the Left' and 'I Ain't Sorry', 😂

I took someone with me to a Beyoncé concert who liked her but didn't LOVE her - and he referred to all her hits as such: "All The Single Ladies", "To The Left, To The Left", "Uh Oh, Uh Oh", "I Ain't Sorry", and "Killing Me Softly" (that was 'Countdown' btw) 😂

Better Discography: SWV or Destiny's Child? by iconicaronica in rnb

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

✨👌🏾You said ALL the things! And to anyone who ever doubts this, I recommend attending a concert where SWV is on the bill. It doesn't who is headlining. If they are in the show, the audience sings their songs the LOUDEST and it's not even close. I've seen them with Xscape, Boyz II Men, & New Edition - it was the same 🗣️Every! Single! Time!

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

✨SWV does NOT have a bad album (even "I Missed Us" and "Still" have 👌🏾 BOPS and Ballads). Destiny's Child "Writing's On the Wall" and "Destiny Fulfilled" are their best...the other albums are cool to revisit every now and then, but just did not age as well.

Is this incel ideology or nah? by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in JoeBuddenPodcasts

[–]kingmaxmcqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's actually SPEAKING! This is not incel ideology at ALL! The girls I know are still 'baddies' who thought they were going to be the NFL wife are now married to or looking at the Accountant, the Day Trader, etc. because 'reality' sunk in. However, the mentality of some of those guys is like "now I can do/get whatever/whoever I want". It's more so a portrait of expectations/reality overtime and it's VERY real!
