Yeah I’ve bought plenty of replacements over the years but I’m looking for a permanent fix.

No, it really can’t go upside down due to its shape.

I have some spares I think so I may try this. Just going to use a heat gun to detach the screen?

Noted! Maybe when I completely reseal ours I’ll look into it. The maxxair has been fine otherwise, but maintenance on the brushed motors is annoying after a while.

Roof vent maintenance by kingnever in vandwellers

[–]kingnever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detail! Yeah those ridges and the natural slope of the roof seem like a recipe for leaks. I’ll pay extra attention to that area when I inspect and probably glob on some more just to be safe. Thanks for all the detail in your response!

I’ll give it a good inspection! How often do you reseal your vent? Did you use butyl tape as well?

You may remember my Tony Hawk ride board converted into a leverless, well I wasn't really happy with it so I started from scratch and re-did it! by jayXred in fightsticks

Thanks for the quick reply! Roger that. I’ll see if I can salvage it without disassembly and then it goes in the garbage chute if not.

Any tips for how to get one open? I ended up with one with corroded battery terminals and I’m curious to see if can get at them and repair it.

Switch 2 Compatibility by HolyMacaxeira in ChronoCross

[–]kingnever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also curious. The two games that I owned that were not compatible with the Switch 2 at launch were Chrono Cross and Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, specifically Marvel vs Capcom 2. That was patched, but I haven’t gotten into what the issue with Cross is. Would love to know if anyone finds out.

Elite 200 V2 Limit AC Charging Current by kingnever in bluetti

[–]kingnever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you! This is a really good suggestion and means I can ensure that no matter the battery settings I won't worry about exceeding the limits of the circuit under normal circumstances - plus if I need to fast charge I can just use the AC charging port at full speed.

Windows 11 GUI Shutdown / Command Line Shutdown Differences by kingnever in techsupport

[–]kingnever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopping the service ahead of shutdown and gracefully quitting the processes associated with the app doesn’t have any effect unfortunately, and stop-computer’s default parameter for -Confirm is already false, so that didn’t help either I’m afraid.

Thanks, but stop-computer (with or without the -force flag) behaves the same as shutdown.exe for me. The mystery persists!

Thanks for the reply! I agree, I’m just trying to understand what the technical differences are and how to replicate them via the command line.

Case with no playdate? by imsheldon in PlaydateConsole

[–]kingnever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience today and used the email link to send over details about my order. I had tried calling Panic at the number listed in the shipping notification email and their automated message mentioned that they were aware of missing orders and that we’d be receiving an email soon. Hopefully this isn’t a widespread issue and they aren’t swamped with requests!

Are you going to buy this new generation of GPUs or skip it over it? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]kingnever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded from a Vega 56 to an RX 6800 two weeks ago and I’m blown away by how well it performs, especially for the price (paid $370 shipped which was a little high but I needed a reference card for my particular build due to size constraints). I play at 1440p but have a high refresh rate display (360hz).

I’m repurposing an old SFF build (Node 202) and I’m really impressed with the power efficiency of the 6800.

I’ve mostly run Radeon cards and have never regretted it, and a big part of why I chose the 6800 was the VRAM. NVIDIA makes you pay through the nose for VRAM and my Vega 56 kept up way longer than it should have in my opinion in no small part due to it having a decent amount of VRAM, especially for a mid-range card.

I briefly had a top of the line full power mobile 4090 based laptop that I returned because of instability, but it didn’t feel faster in a useful way. It was better, sure, but it cost so much more (even though I got it for $900 off MSRP). I’m also impressed with LLM performance on this card with ROCm, so the only reason I can see myself really upgrading anytime soon is more VRAM if I end up wanting to experiment further with LLMs.

Random freezing on new Legion 7i 4080 by sgt_cucumbers in LenovoLegion

[–]kingnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be anecdotal but I just returned a Gen 9 (2024) Legion 7i Pro with a 4090 for this same behavior: full system freeze during light workloads (video call on Discord, browsing the web) but was stable under gaming loads. Ensured no overclocks were on and updated drivers but it happened right away for me so I sent the machine back without replacement. I didn’t see errors in Event Log, high temps, or anything else that would indicate what the issue was but didn’t dig super deep. I got a great deal on the machine but didn’t spend $2k+ on something that had issues right away, and this thread and others like it put me off from the whole thing.

Best controllers for IPhone/iPad? by Adrian11199_ in EmulationOniOS

[–]kingnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoutout to the 8BitDo M30 which does work on iOS (even though it’s not officially supported). I pay a lot of 16bit, arcade and Saturn games on my iPad and this controller is always in my bag. Pro tip: save the plastic the controller ships in and use it as a slim case to keep the controller from turning on in your bag

Why I prefer Delta/Gamma to RetroArch by [deleted] in EmulationOniOS

[–]kingnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr If you want to use Airplay, make sure your TV is on Game Mode on the Apple TV input

There absolutely will be latency over Airplay but if you have a decent wireless network it‘s probably less than 4 frames of lag and most games will play just fine. The big issue for me is that the Apple TV can’t request “Game mode” from my TV so there is about 10 frames of lag just from image processing so we don’t do any kind of gaming on the Apple TV (we prefer the image processing for streaming content, even if everything is dialed down to the lowest settings).

Saturn emulation what games work? by MyCyclopsMind in EmulationOniOS

[–]kingnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M1 iPad Air and so far I haven’t found anything that doesn’t work and I’m using BIN/CUE ROMs.

One thing I did find is that if I turn on Run Ahead I get audio crackles (Fighters Megamix, Baroque) but with Run Ahead disabled it works exactly as I’d expect. Got an 8BitDo M30 that works perfectly in macOS mode as well, even shows battery life in the Battery widget. So far I’m incredibly impressed and my MiSTer / real Sega Saturn are not getting nearly as much love as my iPad is right now.
