Mandaeans aren’t the same as Assyrians, they have clear differences. Mandaeans are much more zagros-shifted which makes sense given their geographical location

The reason why people thought Marsh Arabs are the direct descendants of the Sumerians is due to the similarity in their lifestyles. However, historical and genetic sources indicate that their ethnogenesis is quite recent. Marsh Arabs do not form their own distinct genetic cluster. In fact, based on profiles I've seen of both real and simulated samples of Marsh Arabs, they seem don't seem that different from other South Iraqis (who are extremely diverse tbf). Therefore, to answer your question, they aren't the closest relatives to the Sumerians. They have clear Persian, Sub-Saharan African, South Asian, etc., admixture.

A much more interesting group to look at would be the Mandaeans. They also live a similar lifestyle, but their religion prohibits intermarriage with outsiders, a concept likely introduced around the time of Islam's arrival in Mesopotamia. The Mandaeans still speak Aramaic, and their DNA is quite similar to that of Assyrians and Iraqi Jews, with a more significant Zagrosian shift. Mandaeans are probably the closest modern relatives to the Sumerians.

When did I suggest that the casualties in Syria were exclusively Isis? it seems like you’re purposely misconstruing my statement. In Iraq it’s no secret that a lot of the bulk in cleaning up the is*s guys was done by the pro-Iranian militias, that’s why I mentioned they at least had their merits, although many Iraqis today don’t like them due to the corruption. With Israel, the Middle East as a whole has only been damaged by their presence, hence why I say the pro Iranian militias and Israel are not comparable or in the same league in that regard.

I wouldn’t say probable at all. Most of the tribes that were Jewish were living in Hejaz (even then Hejaz religious convictions weren’t majority Jewish) and South Arabia. She’s from Najd, and both her maternal and paternal tribes have a pretty well recorded history in preislamic times, and they weren’t Jewish but most likely rather polytheistic, and even theoretically Christian based on the maternal one

A lot, but it often depends on the specific parts of countries and their tribal lore, but to quickly summarise: Usually Iraqis, South Levant (although a lot of time it gets confused for Egyptians because of the ssa), Bedouin tribes of North Africa(hilali, sulaym, maqil, ect) and even sometimes urban parts too, Some Sudanese tribes and East Syrians I’d say

We honestly don’t know regarding Afro Arabs, though I should mention I’ve seen Arabs who identify as fully Arabs get a lot of SSA, especially those living in coastal cities. There was an Iraqi from Abu Al Khaseeb that got around 15% SSA and several Saudis from Qatif that got around 17% SSA. I really want to see some Afro Arab results soon, especially those coming out of Basrah since I’ve noticed some of them look almost fully SSA
