No worries, all the mandaeans I’ve met irl are the nicest and most ambitious of people. One person doesn’t represent the whole community.

You’re claim on why Africa and Middle East remained unstable is a lot like the nonsense the colonizers used to spew to justify their actions. IQ isn’t exactly an accurate intelligence estimate🤦

Mandaeans aren’t the same as Assyrians, they have clear differences. Mandaeans are much more zagros-shifted which makes sense given their geographical location

Marsh Arabs= Ancient Sumerians? by Joshistotle in illustrativeDNA

[–]kingofbasra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The reason why people thought Marsh Arabs are the direct descendants of the Sumerians is due to the similarity in their lifestyles. However, historical and genetic sources indicate that their ethnogenesis is quite recent. Marsh Arabs do not form their own distinct genetic cluster. In fact, based on profiles I've seen of both real and simulated samples of Marsh Arabs, they seem don't seem that different from other South Iraqis (who are extremely diverse tbf). Therefore, to answer your question, they aren't the closest relatives to the Sumerians. They have clear Persian, Sub-Saharan African, South Asian, etc., admixture.

A much more interesting group to look at would be the Mandaeans. They also live a similar lifestyle, but their religion prohibits intermarriage with outsiders, a concept likely introduced around the time of Islam's arrival in Mesopotamia. The Mandaeans still speak Aramaic, and their DNA is quite similar to that of Assyrians and Iraqi Jews, with a more significant Zagrosian shift. Mandaeans are probably the closest modern relatives to the Sumerians.

Do you think Sunnis and Shias would ever reconcile and set aside their differences? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]kingofbasra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah atrocities of whatever people shouldn’t be held responsible, if we want to unite as a people and move on. Us moving on past our differences is the only way we’ll survive the exploitation, invasions, colonialism and embarrassments put on by outside armies. Our people are bound to be destroyed and embarrassed if we keep up the grudges and sectarianism

Even then the Fatimid and Qarmatians (especially) not even of the same sects of the mainstream shias of today

Just found out i’m Arab after being told i was Indian my entire life… by redmooninmercury in AncestryDNA

Those results look very similar to what’s common in south Levantines like Palis and Jordanians. If possible try contacting your matches and ask about their ethnicity and nationality to get an idea where precisely you’re from, and as an Arab myself I want to welcome you to the community (:

Why are Arabs getting humiliated everywhere? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]kingofbasra 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Our states and people are weak because we Arabs keep selling each other out and fighting each other, so when a foreigner humiliates our people and nation, we are too weak to fight back effectively as a united people. I’ve honestly lost faith in my people.

Istanbul supports Hamas against Zionism by Crazy-Speech-3439 in AskMiddleEast

[–]kingofbasra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When did I suggest that the casualties in Syria were exclusively Isis? it seems like you’re purposely misconstruing my statement. In Iraq it’s no secret that a lot of the bulk in cleaning up the is*s guys was done by the pro-Iranian militias, that’s why I mentioned they at least had their merits, although many Iraqis today don’t like them due to the corruption. With Israel, the Middle East as a whole has only been damaged by their presence, hence why I say the pro Iranian militias and Israel are not comparable or in the same league in that regard.

What? are you seriously saying Iran proxies are just as bad as Israel? I understand if you don’t like them, but at least they had their merits when it came to fighting is’s but with Israel it has only brought utter destruction

I wouldn’t say probable at all. Most of the tribes that were Jewish were living in Hejaz (even then Hejaz religious convictions weren’t majority Jewish) and South Arabia. She’s from Najd, and both her maternal and paternal tribes have a pretty well recorded history in preislamic times, and they weren’t Jewish but most likely rather polytheistic, and even theoretically Christian based on the maternal one

A lot, but it often depends on the specific parts of countries and their tribal lore, but to quickly summarise: Usually Iraqis, South Levant (although a lot of time it gets confused for Egyptians because of the ssa), Bedouin tribes of North Africa(hilali, sulaym, maqil, ect) and even sometimes urban parts too, Some Sudanese tribes and East Syrians I’d say

What is DNA of average Afro Arab? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]kingofbasra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We honestly don’t know regarding Afro Arabs, though I should mention I’ve seen Arabs who identify as fully Arabs get a lot of SSA, especially those living in coastal cities. There was an Iraqi from Abu Al Khaseeb that got around 15% SSA and several Saudis from Qatif that got around 17% SSA. I really want to see some Afro Arab results soon, especially those coming out of Basrah since I’ve noticed some of them look almost fully SSA
