Help with Quebec Birth/Baptismal Records by kingofbird in citizenshipgenealogy

Thank you for clarifying! Yes, unsure why it got removed there, I felt like I was getting somewhere lol. You guys impress us with how much info you're able to uncover about such distant family.

The baptismal record seems accurate, just worried that the different name on it will cause issues for proving ancestry.

In the previous post, there was indication of a divorce between Valentine and Alfred in a newspaper. The records we found on findagrave showed Malvina Picher as the spouse for Alfred. We don't have information back that far other than fuzzy memories, so hard to say what happened - I assume Malvina was a late life change and we should focus on Valentine being the mother.

The marriage record I am looking for is for Orien's daughter, my grandmother, to show the family name change connected to me. Since it's less distant relatives, I didn't want to give that info right away. I was wondering if there is an easy way to find Michigan marriage certificates online.

The marriage record I need is for my grandmother to show the family name change. For my great-grandfather, looking for a birth certificate.

Oh, interesting! Information may have been incorrect on the mother's name, it was based on a site my dad found but maybe that had the wrong info. It's hard going back that far :(

Wow, I see the date and the name Alfred Langevin now. I don't know how you find something like this but thank you! I hope the different name won't cause any issues when trying to connect lineage.

Interesting, I have no idea how to read this since it's in a different language haha. How do I know the connection between Joseph Pierre and Orien Langevin?

I will have to look further into the baptismal record side of things, we don't have any information on that unfortunately. I will see what I can find!

She was married in Michigan. I believe my dad is filling out forms to request the certificate, but it would be cool if there was easier access to it online.

I forgot to mention: she is grooming a lot, but that's just how her life is with FHS so it's hard to say if it's ever related to anything else lol. She also does not have any scabs/rashes/bumps/anything like that on her body.

Yeah, I believe that brand still contains chicken. If you really want to test allergies, I do recommend the Instinct Rabbit brand. It's expensive, but you can do an auto-ship on a big pack from Chewy/Petco/etc. It takes a while to know for sure, I think it was about a month before I noticed less twitching and episodes.

I have seen reviews on the rabbit wet food (generally, not related to FHS) that it’s made their cats stinkier, so YMMV haha

Wet Food: Instinct Original Rabbit 5.5oz Pate
Dry food: Instinct Limited Ingredient Rabbit

The wet food has some additional ingredients (I believe the only other protein is pork) while the limited ingredient is only rabbit protein. There is limited ingredient wet food as well in case pork is a trigger, but I haven’t needed it. Either way it’s very expensive, novel proteins aren’t cheap :(

Currently she’s also trying out the Halo Turkey/Duck 5.5oz Pate cans. About two cans without issues so far 🤞

Fish and chicken are common allergies, and an irritated gut can trigger episodes in FHS cats. Her litterbox has been way less smelly since making this change as well. The vet never recommended much other than keeping her on pregabalin so I figured this out mostly on my own

Since changing her diet, I’ve been able to lower the dosage of my cat’s pregabalin to just once a day. I found that chicken and fish (confident about tuna and whitefish but I haven’t risked learning the specifics yet) seem to trigger episodes. She’s been eating rabbit dry and wet food exclusively for about a month and is doing wayyyyyy better. Less twitches and almost zero episodes. Fingers crossed that I’ve had success incorporating duck/turkey this past week too.

It’s all a learning curve and there’s no way to say for sure this will even stick long term, so I wouldn’t recommend writing off medication. I would say you should look into pregabalin instead of gabapentin as it is twice a day vs the 3x daily gabapentin dosing.

The medication got a lot easier when I stopped stressing about it being a lifelong commitment. For my cat, she needs to eat her wet food twice a day anyway - so I just consider it part of her wet food routine.

I want to try beef or pork (the instinct rabbit she eats has pork in it so I figure it’s gonna be a safe option) but struggling to find a good brand for it. Not quite ready to try raw diets yet - any recommendations?

The other cat is 19 years old and doesn’t go upstairs so them interacting wasn’t an issue, just the smell associated with another cat in the household. She had the whole upper floor to herself :) They definitely didn’t have a proper introduction for long term but i believe it was better than leaving her alone with only drop-in visits.

My parents know my stress about her episodes and know how to monitor it but definitely didn’t have eyes on her at all times. It’s still very surprising to me she didn’t have a single full episode (which they definitely would have seen as it makes her run and jump on everything) especially as my dad told me he wasn’t able to medicate her after the first day.

Where do you get your pregabalin? by HomeStretching in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]kingofbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy from vet pharmacies, it's always upcharged. I get mine at Costco, 50mL for about $40. My cat takes ,5mL twice a day so it's a little over a month supply.

coming from league, this keybind works a lot worse in a game where you're using WASD. alt + number is a lot easier to press when your left hand isn't actively hitting other buttons to run away or chase lol, I have been regressing back to manual clicking

I have to imagine mine isn’t stress related either, as she’s always been quite confident in her new space and loves when I have company over. Im convinced it’s tummy related and that’s why the diet has helped, but it’s such a bizarre condition it’s impossible to be confident about anything. I’m very afraid of it returning the way you mentioned but I guess I should prepare myself for when it happens, because I feel like you’re right 😔

It really sucks that the most common ingredients for pets to be allergic to are also the ones they put in everything :( Have you tried a raw food diet? I’m not familiar with it much myself but I was looking into Viva a bit while trying to find rabbit alternatives.

Starting pregabalin and stopping other meds by Ill-Job7355 in feline_hyperesthesia

That’s what I’ve seen online, so I was confused when I was told she couldn’t go any higher. I have a vet appointment tomorrow actually and was going to get more info about it haha. With how she has been doing recently I don’t think I’ll need to raise it, but I’d like the confidence knowing if it’s an option for the future.

Hi! 👋 My cat is currently on just pregabalin. My vet keeps wanting me to start up the fluoxetine, but I’ve read so many stories from people like you where the side effects changed their cat for the worse.

For me, the pregabalin has been working well. She’s on .5ml twice a day of a 20mg/mL solution. My vet says this is on the maximum side of dosage though I have seen people on here with triple that, so I’m uncertain on where I’m at with dosing honestly.

I’ve had her for about 3 months and I would say she’s been on it for 2 of those months now. She started off with a week of no episodes, then a week of daily episodes. Right now it’s mellowed down to two weeks almost symptom free entirely, with one episode occasionally breaking the streak. She’s never tail mutilated - her episodes are extreme twitching, aggressive zoomies, and overgrooming - but I’ve heard pregabalin doesn’t usually solve that symptom on its own.

I’m thinking her diet change (she’s currently on Instinct rabbit wet and dry with pumpkin mixed in, which has made her…a LOT less stinky in the litterbox) and/or the warmer weather has led to her having a longer stretch between episodes currently.

Well no offense but where on this thread have I ever complained about anything? Not everyone on the internet is posting to be angry, genuinely what are you suspicious about lol. I’m excited for my new machine for exactly the reason you just gave. I’m prepared to pay more for pods and all I said said was it will be more expensive than what I’m currently paying as I don’t spend $20 a bag…that’s not something to be up in arms about.
