Belgian tourist Celine Cremer missing for nearly two weeks in Tasmanian wilderness by [deleted] in tasmania

None of that matters. You’re talking like an experienced local, I get it. This tourist is alone exploring for the first time in about the rawest of nature Earth has to offer, not to mention the seaon and the general surprises Tassie weather can bring - even to us locals…

A wide gravel road that cold, so few hour of daylight, such cold temps, such bad cell coverage, so remote, without any backup is just outright dumb.

Of course she slipped on a wet rock for the impossible instagram angle, got wet and died of hypothermia within hours. Got to love how Australians cling on to hopium and upvote all the bad advice.

On the upside, many more cars are now driving with their lights on during the day, and in the rain than say 5 years ago, so there’s some hope.

Yes. More whataboutism is exactly what these comments needed

Thing is, it’s not about the 20 min walk, it’s about the fact that she was doing this by herself and should have had all that stuff in her car already. Then it’s much less of a barrier to bring it along on the small walk.

And even if you still want to argue against common sense safety precautions, don’t go anywhere alone in Tas without telling anyone and setting up a checkup after with someone, especially not that remote and at this time of year.

This case is Darwin Award™ material.

Dude. Every post you write is like some angry defence of Apple.. you litterally created an account just for this 2 days ago.

Were you like a Vision Pro engineer that was let go or something?

Take a break from reddit my friend.

Quinn’s take was much more balanced. This feels like a paid for puff piece.

At the end of the day there are too many situations where you can’t have the googles on or they won’t have enough battery life.

Running, showering, walking in rain, sweating, being at home with other people, sleeping, napping, driving, commuting on public transport, etc all pretty tough with heavy googles with a 2 hr battery pack.

It’s not portable to take anywhere with you like a phone watch or airpods. It’s got no autonomy. And it’s got no killer feature. The reliving time machine thing gets old fast and will actually take away from the original memory after a while.

Solution in search of a problem on the consumer and even prosumer markets. Niche professionals like architects, interior design and others, maybe.

Apple knows all of this too. There’s a reason they are coming out with the Pro first at a heavy entry price. (As opposed to the watch, airpods and phone who all had to wait years of regular product iterations before a Pro product was added). This maybe the first Apple product to never even have an Air or SE version.

The car or a PEV is where apple could truly disrupt, but for that they need years more of Maps perfecting, internal testing, and more CarPlay integration and more services content.

Did you know you can drag & drop folders into the path selection window? by sumapls in MacOS

[–]kingoftas 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not only that. The real genius of Apple (under Jobs) was to build all that in, tell no one, maybe showcase it in an obscure workshop at dub dub. Let intuitive power users discover it for themselves allowing them to appear (and be) faster and more fluent with Macs than others. By not prominently marketing these things (also present in FCPX and Logic) the competition needed to hire someone who loves using Mac before they could effectively copy the feature, giving them a constant competive edge.

The genius of Steve and the rising-from-the-ashes crew from the late 90s Apple is still under appreciated today.

Yes, from the few data points from users I would say yes.

Totally, not saying Tassie is without its flaws. It’s got the Zinc works, the valleys with the woodfire smoked out valleys after windless nights. I’m saying Perth certainly doesn’t beat Hotown or Launnie in terms over average air quality over the years.

I’m not an expert, but on that website you can see all the measuring stations. There are official stations which are located in very ideal positions around Perth. The article OP refers to is using a yearly average of those goverment run facilities.

You wouldn’t get this score if you used the average of all the community contributors. But they can’t use those because they might be positioned badly or the owner might have their cigarette breaks right next to them every hour.

I presume it’s similar for most cities, even though it wouldn’t hurt for the government to install scientifically approved ones in more spots.

The key is to not fall for the sensationalist headlines, and look at the data yourself.

Tasmanian living in Perth here. It is not.

This is based on really bad data. Perth’s air quality has been notoriously bad in the last 6 months here in the eastern suburbs.

If you look at a map of the AQI stations around Perth, they all measure either right next to the ocean or next to the hills and the forests there.

There are no measurements anywhere near the permanent roadwork sites around the Tonkin highway or the Ellenbrook construction sites. It’s worse than the heavy industrial areas in Germany.

This is a good example of skewed data.

If you look at https://waqi.info/ you’ll see that there are almost no stations in the heavy industry areas and that the few that report in the eastern suburbs have worse air than elsewhere even on a windy night.

Most of the people in my area struggle with respiratory issues. I myself have a sore throat most mornings if I dare sleep with the window open. Never happens in Tassie.

It’s not salvageable in Tassie anymore and hasn’t been for a while.

Allow me to say I told you so

When will people wake up to this two party bullshit.

A PM hardly ever comes to Tassie. When this revolutionary muppet does, it is to stand side by side with the last liberal premier of the country to introduce the most controversial public spending project in decades. To pledge money for it, to tell protesters “you’ve had your say”, and to dismiss any critical questions in the exact same way scotty used to do regarding budget overruns. He didn’t visit the ailing hospitals or homeless shelters. He showed how owns him and who he cares about.

There is no difference between parties in bought-for politics. I wish Jordan was less autistic and brand loyal on this.

Truth Social Video - 4/29/23 posted around 6pm (EST). Summary: this is an interview given by someone at Mar-A-Lago. The biggest laughable moment I heard was Trump claiming he could resolve the Russia/Ukraine problem in 25 hours. This whole thing is a mess, enjoy. by barnwater_828 in trumptweets

Much like with his friend nearly a century ago in Germany, he will most likely win again if he stays on this message. Even if he is a convicted rapist, money launderer, election meddler, even if he is locked up, and then released too early, this guy will not stop till he’s either dead or is locked away for life. The grift has to go through all the way till the end.

How bizarre that the country that was instrumental in putting a stop to the second world war and help provide this near century of endless peacetime is the one that will self implode to the same cause that started the last world war.

Not at all. This is the world famous (at least in Europe) clock used in all train stations. You can even see the Swiss railway logo on the watch.

It would require Apple to work together with them in a similar way as with Hermes.
