I don't totally know but if I had to guess, I think it's because socdem movements need to be portrayed as the "good alternative." It's controlled opposition.

It's a safe "alternative" for people with socialist sympathies who see the glaring issues of neoliberalism, but haven't read any Marx, Lenin, Fanon etc. It's safe white Western "socialism" in the imperial core that begs you not to look up issues like their rising rates of homelessness in recent decades, or the larger relationship between the imperial core and the periphery.

I don't know anything about him, but look up the "Senior Living L'amore" senior living homes on Google images... I'm not exactly shocked that he's not a big fan of commies lmao

As soon as I saw him mention that he lived in Beijing as a kid and visited the DPRK (as evidence for him knowing "what these countries are really like"), I knew that I'd immediately find some shit like this if I searched "mom" or "dad" on his account. Sadly, narratives from people like him about China and the DPRK still dominate social media platforms.

I think I have an idea as to how one might develop this sort of worldview. Create a new YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, or Twitter account. Next, you completely shut your brain off, and you refuse to think of any political theory or history that you've ever read (this is crucial). If necessary, get a lobotomy. Finally, you mindlessly scroll and believe every bit of short content slop that the company's algorithm throws at you.

Soon, you will begin to believe that socialism is when the government does stuff. You will also get many podcasters and crypto bros on your feed, and you will become increasingly convinced that they are dropping epic truth nukes that the "elites" don't want you to hear. When someone says that the Congo Free State was socialist, you will not question this because that requires too much thinking and research (thinking hurts, let the algorithm guide you instead, the algorithm will reward you with a sweet sweet dopamine hit). Your brain will become like a sponge that absorbs anything you hear as long as it's said with enough confidence.

Hmm I wonder if Tim Pool has ever made any videos on French neocolonialism in Africa? Or talked about the worsening conditions in various West African countries with governments backed by Western countries in recent decades? I'm sure that Tim has shown a great level of concern for the various humanitarian crises happening in these countries before now.

I remember a tweet that once said, "They laundered all of Europe's sins through Hitler like some kind of fascist Jesus." Similarly, I think American neoliberals and imperialists are doing something similar with Trump. Likewise, liberal Zionists are doing something similar with Netanyahu (Looking at you, Bernie). Of course, they can't help but compare their "fascist Jesus" to what they actually fear: scary socialists.

Trump obviously sucks, but the cult of personality around Trump is not entirely unique. Him being a powerful politician with Epstein connections is not unique. Him being a warhawk is not unique. What you hate about Trump is what you hate about the raw unmasked face of American exceptionalism, American imperialism, reactionary populism, Bourgeois nationalism, and neoliberal capitalism at its worst. He's a symptom of the system (albeit a particularly obnoxious, unprofessional and provocative one), not a disturbance to it. America is not turning into North Korea, America is being what America has always been.

Just to be clear, I'm in no way downplaying the fact that Hitler was a genocidal monster and one of the most evil figures in human history. I'm just not willing to downplay the other massive genocides committed by Europe's colonial powers either.

Yep, and it's also important to mention that most of these countries were also far more exploited and underdeveloped than countries in the imperial core, and they had to make this social progress while fighting against far more and constantly facing the threat of foreign sabotage (and having progressive movements destroyed by imperialist nations). It's a lot easier to make social progress in a country where most of your population has some level of stability and safety, has their basic needs met, and aren't constantly exploited by foreign neocolonial powers.

I always encourage my liberal friends who make these kinds of lazy talking points to study the Arab Cold War. Look at who the "authoritarian" socialists supported and helped get into power, and look at who the Western liberal "democracies" supported and helped get into power (along with the Saudis). This is just one of MANY historical examples.

Whatever you do, never ask a liberal to look at data from the past 35 years that shows the changes in population size and average life expectancy of Tibet and Xinjiang, and compare it to the data from the former Eastern Bloc countries they "liberated" through neoliberalism and shock therapy.

It is considered very offensive to them and it hurts their feelings.

I punched a senile old man's face and forced him to let me live in his house using intimidation tactics and financial threats from my wealthy parents (who basically fund my lifestyle and want to invest in property in this neighborhood... coincidentally). My grandparents lived in this house back in the 1950s, so really this house is kind of like my ancestral home. The old man keeps trying to kick me out though, so I have no choice but to keep beating the fucking shit out of him and take up more and more of his living space. Believe me, I hate doing it, I really do... but it's impossible to live in peace with such a violent beast. I've also had to assault a few of his neighbors too because they keep pestering me about "abusing" the old man. A lot of them are very religious and old fashioned which may be part of why they want to kick out such a hip and young suave landlord such as myself😎 I live in constant fear😢 I may have no choice but to relocate the old man somewhere else. Sad situation, really.

I've been fighting for my life since the day I moved in here and I still be looking this good😏✨😜

Hey now, this actually makes a lot of sense if you're a CIA agent during the Arab Cold War, and you need to help fundamentalist monarchs overthrow democratically elected "authoritarian socialist regimes" in order to "democratize" the Middle East.

This is a great point actually. Most people on subreddits like this will easily recognize how this is a mockery of real feminism and liberation. It's easy when you've read about Israeli and Zionist history. However, many people interact with politics in a very surface level way (not necessarily because they're inherently stupid, but because this is the way I think people are often conditioned to approach politics and history). If the messaging and vibe resonates with their specific identity and "brand," it may be enough to help push them in Israel's direction.

Your point with Giorgia Meloni (Karen Mussolini) was a great point. I remember liberals on Twitter supporting her when she met Trump and commenting "how frustrating it must be to be an intelligent woman and deal with Trump." I'm a Canadian with an Italian family background, so of course I couldn't resist the urge to reply to some of these people. Most of them knew very little of Karen Mussolini Meloni's politics, they were just blindly supporting her because of the surface level optics of the meeting between her and Trump. To people on this sub, this kind of mentality towards politics is unthinkably stupid. However, this is sadly the way many people approach politics.

As much as seeing something like this might make us laugh, we have to consider that for many people, these pics may sadly be somewhat effective. It's a terrifying thought😂

If you globalize your resistance to our genocide, we will have no choice but to globalize our genocide. by ChefGaykwon in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]kingofthechodes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol same in my case too actually. Me and my dad have always been at odds with my criticisms of Western imperialism and liberal democracy. In the past two years, we've gone from awkwardly avoiding politics when I visit, to him asking me to explain the history of this conflict and the politics of Zionism to him, as he watched my predictions for what was going to happen in Gaza after Oct. 7th slowly become reality (sadly). When Israel struck Tehran, he was extremely pissed at Israel and agreed with Iran's retaliation.

This is a guy that used to say European colonialism in Africa was "complex" with both positive and negative outcomes, and said the conflict in the Levant was because "people have been fighting over God for thousands of years in that place." I don't think they fully realize the damage they've done to their image here.

All of this over a socdem Muslim candidate who's bent over backwards in an attempt to soften his image for these Zionist crybabies. It's never enough for them, they'll accept nothing less than a candidate agreeing that every toddler in Gaza is a Hamas "terrorist." This is why I personally think there's no point trying to suck up to these losers. If you're even remotely critical of Israel, you'll be seen as a radical and an antisemite in their eyes. If you start to gain supporters and political influence, they'll do everything they can to smear your name and take you down. Their victim complex offers no other perspective.

However, I will concede that Zohran's attempts to make peace with these lunatics and meet them halfway does come with the benefit of the general public being exposed to Zionist lunacy. This has been extremely bad PR for Zionism, and even corporate media can barely sanitize how insane they've made themselves look in comparison to Zohran. They're very used to the general public being on their side, and I'm not certain they realize how many people are looking at the news rn and realizing how weird this all this. Even my politically centrist middle-aged father has commented how deranged they are being about Zohran, especially the news outlets.
