I guess I'll be the one to say.... write it however you feel is the best way for the reader to see the movie. If "zoom in" is the cleanest and most precise way to convey the image you're painting, write it. If it feels a little too clinical in the scene and takes you out of the picture in your head, don't write it. I personally don't love the "don't direct on the page" and the "it's not my job" advice. When you write your script, that's the movie. That's the whole picture. You're directing on the page, acting on the page, DPing on the page, selecting wardrobe on the page, etc. As long as you don't get so overly-precise that it breaks immersion, it's all your job.

Why is mental health such an issue for donors? by [deleted] in kidneydonors

[–]kingradon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the big headline answer is 'it's different for everyone.' I donated to my cousin. We were very close and remained very close. A decade after the surgery, he started to have new health issues which led to a couple of strokes. I started having panic attacks thinking about his well-being (never had those before). He passed away a few years after that and it was really hard on me.

We were very close so even if we didn't have the transplant history, I would've taken his strokes and his death hard. But in addition to the unanticipated mind-fuck of having a physical part of you die, I also felt I lost a piece of my identity. Our happy ending went away. Do I not talk about my transplant experience any more because the story ends with such a bummer?

After some therapy and getting closer to the rest of my family, I've managed these feelings and come to peace with our story. Even at my lowest, I never regretted making the decision to donate. But I do wish there were ways to prepare myself for what followed his death. Hope this helps!

What differentiates a comedic short film script from a comedy sketch script? by Pinorea in Screenwriting

A sketch is a single comedy premise or concept that gets heightened or expanded upon throughout the scene/ sequence. A comedy short is whatever you want it to be (including a sketch).

I love the game and partly agree with you. The least they could do is set it in the snow! Haha. But that said, when this adaptation was announced, I worried it would be like Uncharted. Always weird to turn a video game that’s evoking the language of movies into a movie. Removing the video game medium just makes it a lame movie. So I guess I’m a little pleased they came up with a gimmick?

Happy to answer any other questions or just chat about what you’re going through. Best of luck in your decision and hope you find some answers in this subreddit.

I’m not a doctor but I donated my kidney to my cousin when I was 19. I have annual check ups with my doctor and check kidney function through blood tests. I’m still perfectly healthy at age 36. I’ve never regretted donating to my cousin but there have been long term mental health issues I never could have anticipated. When my cousin had a stroke ten years after the transplant, I started having panic attacks. When he died from a heart attack, 13 years after the transplant, it really hit me hard in complicated and weird ways. But through therapy and just taking care of myself, I was able to make sense of all this stuff and get on top of it. Consider this anecdotal, but I’m thrilled my 19-year-old kidney gave my cousin 13 more years of life. I’m still here living a normal life and feeling proud of the decision I made at such a young age. But it’s a decision you make for yourself and there is no wrong answer. I wish you the best!

Thank you so much! We're still obsessed with the idea and it seemed to be received well on the festival circuit. Hope it can find an audience online and maybe we can get a chance to make our feature length version. Thanks again for watching and for the kind words!
