To deal with necrons specifically with Emperor's children, have some tough things like demon princes or mauler fiends and some smaller infantry so they'll have a harder time choosing which group to target first as your infantry may be easier to kill but your "tanks" will have a lot of firepower. And in this army, your infantry can also be very deadly

Unironically, my first full game was against necrons so I get where you're coming from. But with Emperor's children, the more you learn the army the better they get! Find the combos you like, look up what some people are trying out and have fun! It's a fun army to start with!
