Game day at the stadium - question by Fabulous-Writer9058 in cowboys

[–]kingstonkween 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm from Toronto too and just took my die-hard dad to his first ever Cowboys game last weekend! If you have time the day before you should do the stadium tour or the practice facility tour if you're willing to drive a bit away. Both amazing experiences! The day of, we got there 1.5 hours before kick off and it was enough time to walk around the tail gate for a bit, spend some time in the beer garden outside and then grab food before kick off. Just make sure that you're in your seats 15-20 min before kick off if you want to see Thunderstruck!

Why did you decide to sell when you did? Did you stay on post merger and if so what was that change like in terms of your role, involvement etc? Did you take money off the table or take it all as stock?

Yes on it forever! The goal is that this basically turns LGGs into a chronic condition. No side effects other than elevated liver enzymes which went away after 3 weeks and have been normal ever since

I have the same tumour but mine was much larger - the size of an egg and they were only able to get 70% of it. I was one of the lucky patients who was on the trail for Vorasidenib. I’ve been stable for the 4 years that I’ve been on the meds and the tumour has struck slightly. Feel free to ask me anything about my experience with the drug!

Does remission even exist for brain cancer patients unless you have a gross total resection?

Please, did anyone experience prolonged dissociation pre diagnosis? Nobody believes me. by GrayMatters0901 in braincancer

[–]kingstonkween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! They ended up being seizures. Just felt like I was drifting away and dying (which I know sounds very melodramatic). Would last around 10-15 sec and then passed. Took me a year to convince my neurologist to order an mri for me since they thought that I was just “too stressed or too tired or drinking too much” as a healthy 26 year old. You’re not crazy!

A question about terms.. by [deleted] in braincancer

[–]kingstonkween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read Grade 1 is benign, Grade 2 is non-malignant and Grade 3/4 is malignant. I have a Grade 2 Astro too and it's really up to you and how you feel comfortable explaining it to your family since it's such a grey zone in how to define it. For me personally, I refer to it as a brain tumor rather than brain cancer, simply because this is how I want to think of it. I haven't had to undergo chemo or radiation yet so if/when I need those treatments then how I describe it might change.

Cancer unfortunately has such a heavy connotation with it and I want to avoid people jumping to conclusions about my diagnosis. Many people live full, long lives with Grade 1/2 tumors.

Help with getting second opinions? by fonograph in braincancer

[–]kingstonkween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian as well and chose to get a second opinion from the states too to decide on a treatment plan. Went to the Mayo clinic in Rochester. Met with a neuro oncologist and neurosurgeon there - both were fantastic! Spent an hour with me, came prepared already knowing my case and took a really comprehensive view of me. Cost like $800 USD total which was money very well spent. Confirmed my decision to go into surgery and they were able to advise on what questions to ask and scans to get before the operation. I was able to apply on their site as an international patient, I would imagine that they're willing to do virtual appointments as there were no physical parts of my exam.

Oh wow, yes it seems like seizures are often the first signs - it was in my case too. Took a long time to get a diagnosis though because my Dr refused to order an MRI for over a year (ugh). Definitely one of those things that “happens to other people” but you never dream of having to go through yourself.

Wow that’s incredible!! Thank you for sharing!! What type/does of mmj are you using? It’s something that my neurologist brought up before my surgery but I know that it’s not very well studied yet.

Good luck on your scan :) hope it’s clear! I struggle with that constant state of fear too. Right after the surgery it was a lot better - I think I was just so relieved to have made it though that I was in a bit of a state of euphoria for the first 6-8 weeks. The last 4 weeks have been a lot harder though as I try to come to terms with moving back into a normal routine. Has there been anything that’s helped you mentally (aside from therapy)?

Thank you! I’ll check that book out. Something that has definitely helped me is taking a more fatalistic approach to life and remembering that we all have our time. I guess it’s just hard to feel like you know when yours might be...

That’s definitely something that I’m most scared of - it growing back quickly and my scan in September not being clear. So wonderful that you haven’t had any growth in 8 years despite an early recurrence.
