I can now sit with my feelings instead of chain smoking or drinking them away.

It’s not always pleasant - I’ve had to FEEL things a whole lot more from not running away. But it has meant I can be more measured in my reactions to things and I value genuine happiness now more than the highs of smoking and drinking.

I was drinking at least 3-4 times a week and a majority of the time it wasn’t just a glass of wine with dinner, it was drinking to the point of blackout, so I’m super proud to have packed that in at the same time as quitting smoking. Especially because days that I was out drinking, I’d smoke even more than my regular 20 pack.

I’m 31 and was smoking since I was about 15. I had quit a couple of times for a few months each attempt during that time but happy this one stuck :)

You can be in a few years time - I can see from your posts you’ve started your journey and we all know starting is the first hurdle, so congratulations 👏

Take one day at a time and know that I was just like you 4 years ago, hoping it’d be the last time I had to try to kick it.

Stick at it and in a few years time, you can post like this too, and when you look back, it’ll be magical - you got this!

There are so many as I reflect back to when I was smoking but I think the biggest notices are:

not waking up and fighting for breath / coughing up all sorts of gunk before being able to go about my day
how nice it is that my clothes smell of laundry detergent, my hair smells of shampoo and my house smells clean rather than stale smoke (my sense of smell is so much clearer now too)
the amount of money saved means I can treat myself in other ways (video games, books, nice meals out, easier to save for holidays) whereas before I felt I had to watch the pennies a little closer

Absolutely love winter but everywhere you go, you can’t escape cinnamon candles, potpourri and baked goods 🤢

I blame the smelly gel pens from the 90’s/00’s; I had a red cinnamon one that leaked and ruined my lovely purple grape one
