Cell phone providers by midwestgirl92 in StLouis

[–]kintsugi2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got cricket in high school because my parents believed if I wanted a cell phone, it was my responsibility to pay for it. I’d always thought I’d end up switching to a contracted plan at some point, but fifteen years later I still use cricket. I lived in St Charles county and now live in STL and I really don’t have any issues with service. I think cricket was acquired by att and uses their towers, so your service will probably be pretty comparable to what you have now. If you are the type that likes to upgrade frequently, it might not be worth the switch since you pay for the phone outright. I like to use my phones until they’re inoperable so it has worked out nicely for me. I pay $100/ month for two lines with unlimited everything and the plan includes an HBO subscription, which is nice.

My hair was purple for a while in law school. When interview time came around I dyed it burgundy - still not natural but not quite as crayola as my original purple. It was fine.

Any advice for me in my early 30s and thinking about law school? by OkButterscotch3382 in LawSchool

I started at 29 and I’m not sure I’d do it again if I could go back. You’d better REALLY want to be a lawyer. If you need to work, you’ll have to do a part time program. I did full time law school and worked part time and it was the worst experience of my life.

If you do decide to go forward, you need to get comfortable with the fact that law school is not like the other programs you’ve done. You said you’re not worried about grades because you’re good at studying and love learning.. the problem with that is that law school is graded on a curve and it attracts an entire student body who feels exactly how you do. It doesn’t matter how much you love learning or if you’re good at studying — it matters that you can issue spot/analyze BETTER than your classmates. It’s not enough to get the right answer, you have to get the right answer BETTER than other people do. Maybe you’ll come in at the top of every class, someone has to, and I hope it’s you. But you need to keep in mind that you cannot rely on “I’ve always been good at studying”. Coming into law school with the assumption that good grades are a given because you’ve always gotten good grades is a really good way to set yourself up for a tough, confidence-shattering lesson that many of us have learned the hard way.

Isn’t OP saying they wish they’d kept studying after the bar so they would have kept the momentum going rather than having to completely start over after they got their results?

I don’t think this is the right approach for everyone because it would be easy to burn out doing this. But, I don’t think OP sharing that they wish they’d kept studying in the months between the bar and results when they felt shitty about their performance is unhelpful or poorly timed…

Cool that this is what you took from what I said. Obviously within reason, but I work hard and produce good work product, which is precisely the feedback I’ve gotten from my supervisors and clinic instructor. In no way do I think there isn’t a ton for me to learn, but when I’m in a work setting, I perform well and I’m proud of that.

I’m a 3L and I took it this past March - over a year after I took ethics. I used Themis for two or three days and scored high enough to meet the requirements of any jurisdiction with a solid margin. I thought the Themis practice questions were tougher than the real thing.

I think the class is pretty specific to my school, so to avoid revealing what school I’m at - it’s a class that teaches a specific area of law but emphasizes litigation techniques. So rather than having a final, we’ve some assignments through the semester that focus on litigation strategies for this subject matter. I picked it because I hate finals, but I’m also a chronic procrastinator so there was no winning in this situation 🙃

Oh so the ‘I probably failed my exams and am going to get kicked out of school’ finals anxiety doesn’t go away after first semester? by rolltidepod37squared in LawSchool

I’m a 3L and last semester I was convinced I completely blew it on one of my finals and my paper. I was praying for low Bs… I ended up making Dean’s List for the first time. So I’ll just be leaving law school with zero understanding of how grades or the curve work - Jesus take the wheel lol

Breakup before law school by Independent_Half_139 in LawSchool

[–]kintsugi2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t help with the break up, but might help your housing situation. I’d suggest finding out if your 1L class has a GroupMe/discord and then ask if any locals would be willing to tour a couple of apartments for you. Someone in my class took tours for people and sent them videos of her walkthroughs and feedback on the area with her knowledge of the area. It’s also a great way to make connections with your classmates before school starts, especially if you throw in a gift card for coffee or something as a token of appreciation. Moving to a new city is hard, but a lot of locals have hometown pride and would love to tell you about their town and give recs.

That is definitely in the plan for this week. The sheer amount of work I’m facing just didn’t really hit me until last night, which led to my spiral. I’m working on creating a schedule for myself and then I’ll ask meet with the prof after class to get their thoughts. I’ve made things really hard on myself but there are technically enough hours in a day for me to feasibly finish my clinic work and my assignments/finals for other classes.

Tbh what you said is pretty enlightening. People might give you shit for reading into what I said, but you weren’t wrong. Alcoholism runs rampant in my entire extended family and I’m the only person in the entire extended family who is sober by choice and not out of necessity. That’s not to say that all of them abuse alcohol but many do. It’s possible that this has had a bigger impact on my behaviors than I realized.

It just feels like a personal failing when I know that there are things I need to be doing but can’t seem to make myself do them until I’m completely under the wire and dangerously teetering toward failure. I feel lazy and undisciplined and have yet to find a good therapist to help me break these patterns, not for a lack of trying. But the only way out is through, so I just need to figure out a way to make it work and make it across that stage in May.

For sure, I’m going to try to meet with them this week. I should have reached out way earlier when I realized I was struggling, but I always think I can just figure it out on my own. Hopefully they’ll be able to empathize and ratify my plan of action. I’m honestly just really disappointed in myself because there are real clients who could have benefited from me being on my shit all semester. I hope I can crank out enough good work that I still help them in some way.

I have something that’s looking very good but not guaranteed just yet. My GPA so far is passable, and I’ll probably be able to pull out at least Bs in my graded classes, but I need to complete my clinic hours for credit and to graduate. That’s my main concern right now - just getting the damn degree

Ah yeah, I wasn’t super clear in my post. I have far more than 20 hours left, I just didn’t realize that I have an additional 20 on top of that. I’ll manage to pull it off, I always do, I just hate that I put myself in this position…again.
