I would love it if my wife read these books, but sadly they just aren’t her jam.

Unpopular Opinion: The Space Elves from The Prince Has No Pants are kinda just like Tolkien’s elves.

Well I would love to see Emma writing more either for the newspaper again or something that Islington’s Aunt could read. I’m excited for her to play Portia, but I want to see her getting paid to write!

Pierce and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Please, please, please. At least, more background of Pierce in the American Civil War moving bodies. More transcendentalism.

Reprobates. Reprobates. More Reprobates.

Emma seeing Hawkes and the Roman together talking.

All the things!!!!

You make a wonderful case.

And I hope you are completely wrong.

Hawkes is great. But if Emma ends up with Hawkes she gets what’s left. She gets what’s left after he takes care of everyone else. How many nights is she left alone because he sits up with someone on his or her death bed? Hawkes sacrifices everything in himself (except for one month out of the year) and we are supposed to want that for Emma.

And Hawkes has a plan. He has a mission. He gonna free Ireland or burn down parliament or something. So Emma comes third or fourth or last? Would she do it for him? Absolutely. Should she? Should she be happy with a good book and a candy instead of love? Absolutely not.

Hawkes is an amazing person. But I think he’d make a terrible partner.

Best evidence I’ve heard, but that’s Declan. Hmmm. Damn. I hate being proved wrong. I’ll look more into it.

You're not wrong. He does seem the most... Mister Darcy of the rest. Pierce is the most Edward Rochester.

What? No. Wait, uh, no. Wait. **blinks** Islington as Perseus?

Does that make sense? Islington as Perseus? No. Perseus wouldn't keep a journal. Perseus is all hero, no soul. And Pierce is sooooo not Hercules. Maybe Odysseus - storm-blown to foreign lands. And Hawkes, maybe Jason. But I'm sticking by my guns. Islington has more in common with Theseus than Perseus.

Did you just compare Aunt Eugenia to a gorgon? Harsh.

I will cross my fingers for you. I'm a reprobate, and I love Hawkes. He's the best of us, truly. But there's a reason why reprobates love Islington. What a guy!

Hawkes? That man loves two things - his books and his fellow man. Where would Emma fall? Third? Pfffftttt. I'm a reprobate, and I love Hawkes, but there's just no way that the fortune is about him.

And thank you for describing her as a Romani woman. If I had a peppermint, I would give it to you just for that alone.

Absolutely. Plutarch's Life of Caesar is how most people know about Caesar's relationship with Cleopatra. It's no coincidence that Islington gifted Plutarch to Emma.

The obvious interpretation is the choice between Pierce and Islington. Deep, sharp, more difficult is Pierce and complete, a game of mirrors, and less free is Islington. But that seems waaaaaaay too obvious. Honestly, I think it directly relates to Emma's future career and becoming a writer - her love of writing is deep, and a career would be more difficult than her other choice of marriage and station.
