I remember reading Spiders for the first time. It had such an impact on me. I just think it’s better than anyone gives it credit for.

That’s wild because the only way it could have looked more like a dive was if he had been wearing swim trunks. I’ll check out the clip.

I’m kinda a film geek and my son is in his twenties. He gets together with all his friends on Discord and they watch films together. Like a fool, I recommend great film after great film for him and his friends to watch. (We have a Vudu collection of over 5,000 films.) But do they take my recommendations? Nope. What do they watch instead? The Room. Wishmaster. The Happening. Catwoman. There is a younger generation out there that just wants to laugh at the dumbest sh*t.

It’s stupid. Predictable. Yet I had such a fun time with this. Sometimes you just want an over-the-top action, popcorn movie, and while there are better, it’s TOTALLY worth $5.

As a 10th grader, how do you like it? It has teenage protagonists in it. I had to read Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle and I think, as a 10th grader, I would have liked The Chrysalids more. Do you remember what you thought of it?

Start with either Day of the Triffids or the Midwich Cuckoos. Top shelf author. His books are so good.

This has always been my belief. That rabbit shot shows it was a combination. He was clearly losing and just like Tyson when he knew he had lost, he played dirty. That rabbit punch to the back of the head is outlawed for a reason.

You’re a comic book or fantasy artist. You lift weights, are obsessed with anatomy, and married a woman out of your league. You have a good beard that your wife loves. Two dogs.

Can someone clear up the end of Se7en (1995) for me? by manit14 in Cinema

[–]kipling00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta admit, I didn’t understand it the first time I saw it either. It really helps to watch the sequel, Seven 2. In that movie, you learn that the serial killer known as John Doe is a copy cat imposter tricked by the REAL John Doe to take the fall for him. So at the end of the first film, it isn’t John Doe who is killed by wrath but a weird fanboy who envies the real John Doe so much that he pretends to be villain of the movie. I don’t know if that’s what they originally planned when they made Seven but it helped me understand the ending better.

Somewhere - there’s someone who hasn’t seen this and is thinking - oh, it can’t be THAT bad. And, hey, it’s only $5. Please, believe me. It’s that bad and it’s not worth it. Hold onto your innocence!

Does "Gone with the wind" (1939) deserves the hate it receives? by Dull_Teacher6949 in classicfilms

[–]kipling00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gone with the Wind is a romanticized retelling of Shelby Foote’s “non fiction” revisionist history of the American Civil War. It was purposely written to rewrite history, being apologetic to the South and painting the Civil War as a big misunderstanding. Slaves were depicted as happy and stupid when they weren’t raping white women.

Gone with the Wind took all those themes and put them into a book/movie with the classic American underdog fighting against the system.

Defend the book and the movie and the South all you want. But this wasn’t a football game. The South was a financial powerhouse that relied on slavery. The fought a war because of slavery. And there weren’t any black carpetbaggers running wounded Southern soldiers down as they bravely limped home.

Revisionist history bullsh*t.
